I'm not a big fan of this bit by Asness.

Here is a better look at the Repubs & why they fail.

You Canadians and Aussies have less people in your two whole countries than we do in two of our cities.

Can't you get it thru your thick numbskulls that a nation of 500,000,000 people cannot survive devoting nearly 40% of its GDP to the healthcare of its people?

Oh, sorry - I thought you berks were "Christians". "Our brother's keeper" and all that rot.

But, I guess that's not convenient...

It's very difficult to "keep" my brother when 50%+ of my gross is taken before i even get my paycheck.  Charity at the end of an assault rifle is not charity at all.

Wrong again.  I am an atheist.

The so-called Christians can do what they like, but as for me, I am in no frame of mind to pay for the health care of anyone other than my family, but for the truly desperate. And of the ones who are not now covered in that position, more than 60% can afford health insurance from a private company, but refuse to do so.

Contributors to this site generally view government as having destroyed the economy. Yet the comments above are generally confused, naive and all over the map on the subject of politics. Politics is essential to protect the market from government control. Further government intrusion into the economy, like ObamaCare and every government program before it, increases government control over economic activity. I can't conceive how anyone how contributes to this site could favor universal health care. I can't understand how someone who opposes further government intrusion in the economy could not hold their nose and support, actively work for, the Republican Party as the lesser, by far, of two evils.

"Corruption of our government can only occur when good men remain silent."

It's easy for me. As a former republican, I was part of the base that threw out the so-called republicans at every turn after the 2000 elections and everyone thereafter.

There are no true republicans left in government. There is only one party: The party of Incumbents. And the incumbents of both parties have been on a 60 year binge of running up the largest deficit in the universe because they are all corrupt, self-dealing hypocrites with stupid constituencies too blind to see anything but the short term.

Tens of millions of Good men and women voted for republicans with the understanding that they had the moral, financial, and constitutional high ground.  And got handed shit on a stick election after election.

That's how.  The republicans who were elected by good men who were not silent, they now can shoulder most of the blame for Obamacarenot as they were the last line of defense that folded without firing a single shot.

I say fire all of them in November,

'Cause nothin' lasts forever
And we both know hearts can change
And it's hard to hold a candle
In the cold November rain
We've been through this
Such a long long time
Just tryin' to kill the pain
Yeahh..

People masses are stupid. This is the truth.

Lately in America,

- people were sick and tired with slimy Democrat Bill Clinton and they elected an imbecile Republican George Bush then

- after electing twice GWB, people elected Democratic fraud and liar Obama then

- there are talk to elect Republicans back

It is just incredible!

When I see politics in America what I see is apathy and cowardice. Partisans on both sides are largely blind to the ills of thier side. But the coward, the coward is the worst. Unwilling to choose a side sits back and calls the partisans stupid as if he is any better. I respect more the liberal or conservative than the coward.

The first Tuesday in November will have candidates chosen by the partisan. "They both suck" is not on the ballot. Get a f#cking spine and get in the game. Are you with Nancy Pelosi or Paul Ryan? Steny Hoyer or Mike Pence? Because whining from your wretched soap box doesn't accomplish a damn thing. Hell you do not even have the right to complain if you aren't willing to do anything about it...

What I want to do about it is illegal, and fatal to incumbents in both parties who sold out our country for personal gain.

Bullsheit on this states right issue going back to the South and Lincoln as in what would Lincoln do.

I agree that states reights may be a way out of this ponzi scheme.

But, going back to Lincoln, I can only go by what has been written by Lincoln about the issues back then. Maybe a truthful examination of that time would give the present time an option for changing.

States rights were being trampled in 1857 by the South when through their influence the Supreme Court came down with the Dred Scott decision --- which made it legal to own slaves in every state.

In other words ---- a state could no longer say no to slavery. Talk about taking away staes rights!!!

Talk about a ruling class, an aristoratic slave holding nobility. If there was no civil war to end slavery then all on welfare now as well as the cronic unemployed, and social security recipients, all union workers, all federal and state employees ---- would have sold themselves into slavery ---- free room and board --- a long time ago.

I'm not particularly interested in supporting either the Harlem Globetrotters or the Washington Generals.  I kept reading Asness' (no way that's his real name) essay looking for something substantive.

Does he think we need to do something about health care, or health insurance?  If so, what does he think we ought to do?

He seems to the think the Washington Generals are bad.  Or maybe it's the Harlem Globetrotters.  Whatever.  Next.
