the only hummer worth a damn was the H1 which used the military chassis. The rest of those things were just car frames with some square kind of a body on them. total waste of money .
You're right. The H2 & H3 are just the medium and small truck chassis with a box on them. They are easy to work on, and that's a good thing, because they break all of the time.
There were a ton of those around here for a while but they are disappearing now. Driven by men and women. Never met one person driving one of these that I could have a reasonable conversation with.
Strange phenomenon. The vehicle had no utility at all other than to suck gas and take up 2 parking spots. Plenty of lighting though to find your way around the already well lit residential areas..............
Obnoxious, much like their owners...at least the ones I've met. Can't say I'm sorry to see it go on the one hand...as a highway vehicle...but as a military vehicle It's unfortunate.
Then again, look at anything and everything that GM touched during the big acquisition period...it all turned to shit swirling around in the toilet, Hummer, Saab, Saturn etc. Saab became nothing but an aglomeration of GM parts raked in from various products, motly Opel I think. Fortunately the name lives on in the case of Saab.
Ford at least fixed the Jaguar electrics but when you consider the Jag wagon you just want to upchuck...what were they thinking!
Actually the US Army is no longer buying the HMMWV and is starting to phase it out of front-line service. Largely in favor of much larger, heavier and costlier mine resistant vehicles, and a few years out also a sort of large modified pickup for the non-armored utility role. HMMWV's can't be armored to a level that survives an IED well - they were never designed for that much weight, and there are other fundamental protective design features that they don't have either.
The same company will be producing cars that looks almost exactly like Hummers, but without paying a dime to GeneralMotors, in about 4 years.
Probably powered by a copy of a Toyota v-6.
If you want to make it a case of driving a Hummer being a bad thing, then does that make driving the knockoff even worse?
Toyota's been well known for supporting despotic regimes through their Toyota Tsusho division. I would not be surprised if they looked over the Chinese copy just to get a few more Chinese immigrants in Japan to build cars in their company town. Interesting that for all that quality, Toyota cuts corners and they're exposed for being frauds.
At least General Motors looks after its own, despite getting slagged for doing exactly the same thing that the banksters take for granted. That and they've built cars in the South - when their competitors refuse to go North of the Mason-Dixon.
The Hummer is a first class example of what alienates modern America from much of the rest of the world.
The car is an excess of everything. It is brash, fat, fugly and not very good at anything, except showing it's owner up as a complete ignorant in any sense of the word.
That Hummer is going to be axed is the logical consequence of the survival of the fittest. The only surprise is that it was made in the first place.
If they had called it the Hubris, it would have been perfect. The fact they tried and failed to sell to the Chinese says everything. I bet the Chinese had no intention of buying, but enjoyed the irony of the situation.....
China ministry of commerce, the regulatory body, claims it did not bloc the deal, because it never received an application. Sounds interesting? Well, Chinese people like conspiracy theory.
Sounds like the Chinese only were interested enough to get the details on making their own copies. Once they had those, TZ could just make the copies unchallenged.

Who would be dumb enough to pull out of a hummer?
Now THAT cracked me up!
+1
Who gives a shit really. I mean Hummer will be synonymous with American Excess Leverage in the 2000's. I mean really?
Would that be the "withdrawal method?"
It's going to be the "withdrawal method" for everything that's junk in America eventually.
toyota should at least buy the pedals and floor mats right?
Horatio Caine (David Caruso) will be driving a Smart Car next season.
Hummer: Rike nothing errse!
Get one (or two) while you can...
And store them -- don't drive them.
Years down the road, you'll be able to sell them as overpriced collector's items.
CHA-CHING!
Sadly, that strategy will probably work.
Congress will offer Toyota a deal... buy Hummer, or we'll "taunt you a second time."
Fetchez la vache!

The lobbying group "Men with inadequacies" appears to have lost this round.

maybe this is a harbinger of things to come -
the rest of gm will be put out of its misery...
ShankyS - destined to be a classic, the line not the vehicle....

The military vehicle is a separated factory, a separate company, just the civilian nonsense disappears.
The U.S> Army has not yet intention to lose the HUMMVEE.
thanks for the clarification, something i didn't know.

china hummel tLucks don't bLeak
Without overpriced (and terribly inefficient) Hummer's, where shall man channel his vices going forwards?
Demolition Derby?
Cigar Afficianado.
I think George Carlin put it best: "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. And sometimes, it's a big brown dick!"
Real men didn't go near that phony piece of junk also known as "White Trash On Parade."
The same company will be producing cars that looks almost exactly like Hummers, but without paying a dime to Government Motors, in about 4 years.
Probably powered by a copy of a Toyota v-6.
In another 5 years, they will probably export them to the US.

Now where do I go to get it serviced???? I like my Hummer. The thing will jump a ten foot ditch like it wasn't there.
The perfect escape vehicle for SHTF.
Toyota servicing? The horror.... : )
The same place that you still get it serviced at. Just because Hummer got discontinued doesn't mean you can't get service for one.
The irony will come when the Chinese start making the knockoff body panels.
Yeah, I know. It's right up the street a ways. They know me...I'm in there quite frequently.
It's a tough tank....I like to ride around in the mountains though.
JohnG you are full of shit.
After a ten foot ditch your hummer would end up like it wasn't there.
Calling you out, those things are one thing - a sucker sale.
Don't feel bad, a lot of people have trouble estimating a mere few inches.
"The perfect escape vehicle for SHTF'
Maybe the vehicle makes you a target that needs to run when TSHTF.

immature people drove H2's, high maintenance girls drove H3's, and Ahnuld drove the H1
Guess they just dropped to zero ...
Maybe move the factory to Iraq. Plenty of demand for spare parts!
I say melt 'em all down....and form vehicles that make sense....
In many ways the "USA" is a "Hummer"....
THINK....about it....
Well, no doubt that the U.S. political system certainly does SUCK...

Good, they were shit. Now if they can only do the same to Ed Hardy the world would be a better place.
What other shit brands and products can we mark for deletion/extinction?
Back in 07 we used to say follow a Hummer to a pre-foreclosure home.
Fitting.
