New Year Open Thread
Since readers are likely eager to share their own predictions for 2011, please use the following open thread for that, as well as for anything else that may cross the collective subconscious. Additionally, any suggestions on improving (or deteriorating) the site, as well as all brainstorming, and last but not least threats, are most certainly welcome. Best of luck to all in 2011, especially those who fail in their resolutions to cease feeding the central planning monkeys.

I will trade my tin foil hat in for a gold foil hat, and laugh at my relatives from the safety of my bomb shelter.
I propose that ZH either
1. dispense with the junk button, or
2. replace the junk button with a thumbs-up and a thumbs-down button.
If we have a way of disagreeing-without-commenting, we should also have a way of agreeing-without-commenting.
Fed Delenda Est
I say we add a FUCK-YOU-IN-THE-ASS button that, when pressed, sends a hairy Turkish guy with a moustache to the offending poster's doorstep.
I am Chumbawamba.
That ain't gonna work for me. I've already got a restraining order against Janet Napolitano. Oh, wait, that guy is Italian, isn't he...
I had him totally pegged as a Mastiff:
http://caninebreeds.bulldoginformation.com/italian-dog-breeds.html
I am Chumbawamba.
Actually, I'd like to have sex with him.
Janet, if you're reading this (<chuckle> "if" <chuckle>) then drop me a line. I'm sure you've got my number. All of them.
I am Chumbawamba.
chumbawamba - Hats off to you man. I'm glad to see you are still kicking.
Very funny - Janet's got your phone numbers. I'm sure he does. BTW, He's not Italian American. Wiki says he's half, but won't say what the other half is. Why would wiki do that?
Last time out it was that Chertoff guy selling body scanners. Clearly only the chosen are worthy enough to "guard" the Homeland/False-Flag Theatre.
But who are they protecting as they destroy our liberties? Hint - It ain't you or me.
+1 Chumba, good to see you back!
Oh Chumba! I am so happy to see you again! You have been missed!!
Happy New Year and please post in 2011.
My predictions for 2011 (and forward):
- Lacking jobs (for either themselves or their kids), ready cash, long term planning, or solutions - the Boomers will resurrect 19th century laws and enslave their good-for-nothing children. This will displace illegal aliens and other migrant workers, causing Mexicans and Central Americans to retreat South, back across the boarder - with their power tools in tow. The children of the Boomers, lacking tools and skills, will clip grass and hedgerows alike, with confiscated nail clippers obtained from TSA employee yard sales.
- Despite their lack of training in horticulture, home making, or anything useful at all; the Boomer Children will (after a brief period of rebellion, followed by a flogging the likes of which none of then have ever endured) step up and perform well in their new role as serfs to the Boomer class. (As it turns out they have no backbone - nor the intellectual capacity required to actually stage a revolt.) Some of them will even develop highly specialized skills and crafts that will allow their parents to rent them out to other Boomers at a profit.
- Boomers will continue to live a lifestyle of relative ease and comfort, with precious little inconvenience to themselves - as if the whole world economy had never really collapsed at all. (Much like the "Black Belt" of the Mississippi delta in the 1840's.)
- A few "Protection" laws are passed by the Boomer congress. Specifically it will be illegal for anyone to actually EAT their children, as it will be determined that this is unpatriotic, as children contribute substantially to the GDP in slavery - as opposed to simply being a one-time menu item.
- The Former "Illegal" residents of the US, now resident in Mexico and Central America, will jump start their nation using the power tools acquired north of the border. They will have difficulty at first, locating non-ethanol laced gasoline.
- Once pure gas sources are stabilized, the original, "Natives" aof the Americas will once again venture north - mowing lawns first in San Diago, then on to Houston. Eventually these new Natives will co-mingle with the Serfs of North America, and will - with their hand tools, leaf blowers, and weed-eaters, launch an assault on the now-feeble Boomers.
- The boomers will attempt to hire a contrator force to repel the insurrection. This will fail, as KBR, Triple Canopy, and the like have all been infiltrated by Pagan dirt worshppers who bury their dead above ground - where the crows have daily buffet. They care nothing about international politics or commerce. They are all about the mystery and symbolism!
- Pretty soon the blue eyed grandchildren of the Boomers are making babies with "Pedro the Yardman", planting gardens on the golf course, and brewing their own whisky in your Martha Stewart Kitchen.
And then, of course, we have 2012 to deal with. Oh Boy!
This is hilarious. How come no one else laughed?
I am Chumbawamba.
In the past I asked TD to add a Like button, but #2 would work also.
A Happy and Profitable New Year to all on ZH!
Seems like the 'junk' idea is too limited ... people 'junk' a commenter just because they disagree.
Maybe we need thumbs-up and thumbs-down, plus junk on the side ... but I imagine people who disagree will often use the thumbs-down plus a junk, if the system doesn't block commenters from only choosing one of the three.
...
Amazing that in a long thread full of idle comments and 'junk', here is a poster making an actual serious suggestion like Tyler asked ... and getting multiply junked.
Its not amazing, it merely reinforces the fact that some people logged in to ZH are:
a) idiots b) morons c) cretins d) children
Fortunately, most ZH contributors are not any of the above. To them, I wish a very Happy New Year.
To those that are some or all of the above, I wish you the opposite.
the name of the game in 2011 will be the continued shagging of sovereign debts and national sovereignty by the BOYZ; Europe first, then Japan/USA next starting towards the end of 2011 (?).
much higher food prices, but no reliazation in 2011 that these POWERZ are setting up a desperate famine world wide in this decade
look for more overt Police State actions resulting in innocent death in the West
any moves to a more sustainable lifestyle/work life will greatly rewarded latter in the decade
get ready, the shit storm clouds are gathering and we can not know for sure when they will let loose, but a watchful attitude is called for
in the meantime, be thankful we got through 2010 without any crashes
+1
Although the Obama admin might take issue with the "any moves to a more sustainable lifestyle/work life will greatly rewarded latter in the decade" as their ideas of a new sustainable lifestyle will include the phrase "Would you like fries with that?"
Dennis Kneale cuts himself with a rusty razor while shaving & gets lockjaw in 2011.
Dennis won't be shaving until he hits puberty.
Well, we're barely 5 minutes into the New Year (Pacific Time) and your prediction already appears to have come true.
Here he is demoing a nuclear-powered shaver.

Staff Sgt. Barry McGuire??
That's a priceless Freudian brain fart! My engineers hat is off to you, psalty!
SSgt Barry Sadler did the uberpatriotic "Ballad of the Green Beret."
Barry McGuire of the New Christie Minstrels did the ZH precursor, "Eve of Destruction."
I suspect the two of them probably never shared the same bus on the oldies tours. But mixing them together here, whether intentional or accidental, has just the right flavor of irony that I love in my Cream of Fight Club soup.

Oil gets incredibly expensive; speculators are blamed, changing nothing.
Paranoia of the ZH schizoposse hits new high; Tyler is accused of being a disinformation agent.
No one correctly predicts the 2011 black swan; stocks hit new highs and lows. ZH documents the carnage.
Freegold arrives.
Tyler, how about an ignore button?
An ignore button would be wonderful. Really tired of dealing with trolls.
An ignore button is a good idea, especially if the post gets hidden if enough of us ZH'ers ignore it.
I'd say just make it get smaller, with the user able to set his preferences such that a certain level of junks are invisible to him (though there should be a placeholder to prevent snide replies from looking like they are going to someone else), or smaller, or junks/thumbs downs have no effect at all.
Though I think I might prefer a forced anonymous system. Allow user contributed content that has enough up-ratings to appear on the front page (such that Tyler isn't the only contributor anymore). Then, you could have debate threads where usernames are either visible in general, or two designated debaters have their IDs visible.
I like forced anonymous because it prevents vendettas from taking root, and allows people who are just learning to participate and ask questions without being labelled as "stupid" in future comments, just because they didn't know about something earlier.
Baked Swan
To bake a Swan
Scald it and take out the bones, and parboil it, then season it very well with Pepper, Salt and Ginger, then lard it, and put it in a deep Coffin of Rye Paste with store of Butter, close it and bake it very well, and when it is baked, fill up the Vent-hole with melted Butter, and so keep it; serve it in as you do the Beef-Pie
QE2 has been informed (the monarch not the printing press) and men calling themselves beefeaters will be there shortly.
ZH recommendations:
- vote up/down buttons
- ability to 'friend' posters
- and likewise ability to ignore.
QE2 has been informed (the monarch not the printing press) and men calling themselves beefeaters in, to be fair, quite strange attire followed by hopping ravens will be there shortly.

ZeroHedge is literally now what CNN was back in the early 80s. ZH is a pioneer. Some have tried it, but much about this site sets it apart and casts it better than any competing ones.
I have no doubt that within a decade, more people will get their financial news (and even much of their 'conventional' news) from the ZeroHedge's of the world, in far larger amounts, than from the traditional financial news networks and publications.
If there is a trend in this country and world, it is the rapidly growing conviction that 'main stream' news sources are entirely full of shit, parroting what TBTB tell them to, or worse yet, their owners are in on the ruse TBTB are trying to pull off.
p.s. - James Cramer, yes the James Cramer, writes a guest article on ZH in 2011, entitled 'Winners Of The New World,' where he lists 10 long-term investments that will outperform all others, and every single one of them is either a precious metal or rare earth mineral.

I see on all MSM outlets that Santa and Co. have magically fixed all our economic and fiscal problems while we slept with sugar plums dancing in our heads.
Shit continues to slide downhill and pick up speed, as fear with a tinge of greed become the normative state for those concerned with Power, instead of the former "full on greed sans Fear" state that we have seen for years.
Seams will begin to burst this year as the run-up to elections leaves us once again un governed in every sense of the meaning.
Divides widen, more people "go poor" while those on the "inside" grow enourmous wealth.
Next election will be defined as a "class warfare" election. Blue Bloods are going to be on the ropes, and it becomes less about party and more about what "school" of thought you are from... Merely having attended Harvard will now get your ass kicked in 99% of bars in the US. Classes become more sharply defined after that.
It might not pop in 2011, but the stuffing will be showing and it will become obvious to j6p that things are "not quite right".
I figgure the next election will be that last straw... When we get to choose between a dog and a glue horse... Again... It might not be enough to pacify the masses. That is why Palin is being kept around. If we look at the glue horse and balk, they will throw her in the pit. That will quench the populist WWF/WWE crowds and get em back to their trailers without much fuss and gunfire. Even though the script is written and the Obama is the 2012 winner... Dontcha Know.
Gold Up.
Silver Up.
FRN Down.
Sustained Low Intesity Conflict comes to the mainland US in the SW.
2011 Summer SoCal RIOTS.
2011 Summer MidWest RIOTS.
Power Grid Problems start and persist in 2011, some cities become a joke with repect to power reliablity.
Network Problems (outages in large areas) start to occur with increasing frequency all over the US.
Food Prices up over 60% in 2011 for staples... Milk, Bread, Eggs, Cereals.
Some food shortages (butter, chocolate, coffee, etc)
Fuel prices stay above 3.00 for the entire year. If they go up, they only drop 50% of thier gains during fluctuations.
New Car sales drop like a rock.
Home sales drop like a rock.
Muni Defaults in over half of US states.
Solid calls. I can't disagree. Thanks for puttin' it out there for us to see.
Why the calls for grid power problems in '11? The country's not close to hitting the spinning stock limits with solar/wind/intermittent input and overall demand is down. Olduvai theory loses me with the grid collapse stuff, unless the failures are intentional acts.
Not enough being spent on Infrastructure maintenance.
Everything goes into NEW development, NOTHING goes into maintaining or upgrading existing (and rotting) wire plant.
Big storms knock out stuff and it just never gets replaced... Stuff dies and it never gets replaced...
Been going on for years and demand gets bigger every year... about time for big stuff to break... Again.
Water should have been on that list... Most of the big Cities have shat for Water systems too...
Generation is not equal to Distribution. Distribution is where fail occurs.
That's nastily true.
Much of Manhattan's water, sewer, phone and electric system is older than my jokes. And they're only in the extra worst category because they were big enough to start installing that stuff when other cities didn't exist yet.
Much of Ulster's water system threw a rod last week because of the heavy snows, freeze and thaw. There had been minimal maintenance of the system since the Vikings were there. Suddenly, kaboom, the whole damn thing throws up all at once.
Sometimes lack of infrastructure maintenance whacks you a little at a time, and sometimes it throws your ass up against a wall and gropes your crotch without rubber gloves.
And this summer, think about those cross-country power lines that have trees growing up under them here in the United Snakes. That's because the tree maintenance budget keeps getting cut by 10% every year. Unless we figure out a way to send gigawatts of power through treetops without setting the woods ablaze, there's going to be hell to pay. We have incidents all the time, but they're usually localized and nobody thinks too much about the real cause.
But that's the future, and we're talking 2011. I predict a rosy year, with lots of puppies and kittens.
Not much meat on puppies and kittens though.
You forgot to mention:
2011 Summer Pacific NW COOL and moist. Everybody goes hiking and never comes back.
Good Idea !!!

Thanks ZH. You have created a unique engine of opportunity. It has been filled with a fine collection of investors in various costumes and disguises, resulting in a wonderful mix of humor, serious discourse and plain stupidity.
Hard to imagine a better site, but I'm sure you're working on it. Happy New Year one and all!
Just curious
Anyone else out there feel like there being hosed?
I get nothing from the government or anyone else. I always knew this was the case, but it's really starting to piss me off
As I sit here with accounts recievable and I'm late paying my 30% to the government they charge whopping fees.
Ive just really had enough!
Anybody thingk there will be a market for guillotines?
Happy New Year
Thanks Tyler and Co.
yes....Gerald Celente predicted that in 2010 we'd hear "Off with their heads!" and sure enough in London when they surrounded the royals car you can hear shouts of "Off with their fucking heads!"....whew. He suggested getting into guillotines.

I hope that this fight AND flight thingy finally resolves itself. It keeps me awake nights.
Ok, here goes:
1. Harry Wanger gets admitted to a sanitarium, after loosing his last fiat dime, screaming "it was supposed to be a wall of worry NOT the slope of hope!"
2. Sheep-Dog-One changes his handle to Sheep-Dog-Three after a dalliance in the AMPEX parking lot yields more than a solid investment return
3. Cognative Dissonance finds Harmony
4. Tyler and Maria Bartiromo finally tie the knot
5. Johnny Bravo's true identity is discovered - he is none other than Martin Armstrong, and just loved tweaking the ZH crowd
6. Leo dumps solar stocks and goes all in on Natural Gas
7. I will add a relevant post to ZH in 2011
Happy New YEAR one and ALL!

50 million on food stamps by 2012 - which still won't pay for much becasue food costs soar as oil goes higher.
Plenty of work for a man if he likes to kill Moslems. But we warned them that if they didn't take the vending machines they might experience "problems".
I'd like to wish all people on all sides of all issues a happy and prosperous 2011 and beyond.
One of my joys this year was beginning to purchase physical silver. Just came home with a few more today. I get a real kick out of hearing that metal clink around in my hand, and I have you all to thank for it.
Thank you!!
"I get a real kick out of hearing that metal clink around in my hand..."
The sound of quality ;-)

The US will keep things rolling along thanks to the regular Euro woes and the general Amerikan apathy/ignorance...and then the shite will hit the fan this time next year, when gold is "hovering" about $1650 and silver about $45 and a loaf of bread is $4.50.
Funny about that whole 2012 apocalypse thing. Were the Mayans all economists?
A profitable new year to one and all!
I'm not much into that prophecy stuff... but that 2012 Mayan thing is really looking pretty damn spooky about right now.
Our best & brightest screwed up on their calculations (surprise!...LOL).

Happy New Year.
Hey...no prob...that's why we're here.
Just confirmation of what I've always felt...a prediction by a culture (any culture, any prediction) who didn't predict their own demise is to be viewed with a jaundiced eye...in my view of course.
I take it as it comes...it (the prediction) is no reason to run up bankers debt in the belief the end is nigh...only to find yourself in bankruptcy court by following the herd when it doesn't happen.
Just sayin ;-)
Huh?
LOL.
1) The Mayans did not forsee their own destruction at the hands of the Spanish...yet they forsaw the end of time?
2) Some irresponsible posters have said here, since the end of time is in 2012, it's a great idea to max out the credit cards.
More clear? ;-)
I dunno, dude. Have no real insight on the predictions themselves, have not seen firsthand. But it would seem to me that calculations based on observable astronomical events/phenomena would be easier to do than to guess that seafaring nations specialized for centuries in the construction of ships that eventually become capable of crossing thousands of miles of ocean would come and wipe out a continent.
Also, the prediction comes from a much earlier period than when the Spanish landed, no? Wasn't there significant societal collapse even BEFORE "whitey" came over?
"Also, the prediction comes from a much earlier period than when the Spanish landed, no?"
Yes...but I still maintain, if one can see into the future the first question would be, what about my family, my culture and me, short term...not centuries into the future when they are all gone. Maybe it is there still to be discovered...maybe not...we don't have much time to find it now though...LOL...I enjoy history & archaeology.
"Wasn't there significant societal collapse even BEFORE "whitey" came over?"
Oh yes. The Mayans were adept killers & subjugators long before "whitey" arrived.
Mankind is violent by his nature...we've got a long way to go before we are not. I've accepted this fact.
To add a worn out cliche'...it is what it is.
And...too add your accurate cliche...it is what is was, and what it will always be.
Seems so...as long as everyone knows the rules, it's a fair game ;-)
This is why I could never completely understand the pacifist mindset (unicorns, flowers, puppy dogs etc.).
In theory it's a fine concept...in practicality you're giving yourself over to be enslaved by others...freemen don't do this...at least not this one.
I think I've beat this horse enough tonight...LOL.
SeeYa Aristarchan.
2011 shall be the year where gold, sliver & and other precious metals shall retrace (down).
2011 shall be the year where the USD shall gain against the majors (USD up).
You heard it first here from the lips of The Dick Weed.
Upon it occurring, pls remember to tip your hat to me... as I have been the first to publish this prediction on this otherwise "buggish" board.
So you are assuming that Ben Bernanke will be hung from a lamp post before the end of the year?
That would be AWESOME!
I call dibs on tickling his feet ;-)
Uhhg. Get yourself one of those TSA gloves before you do.
A used one.
True.
Be careful if touching the corpse of The Bernank.
It is riddled with syphilis, herpes and other communicable STDs, consequent of engaging in acts of extreme perversion and sacrilege at Bilderberg and Bohemian Grove.
Niall Ferguson, the author of 'The Ascent of Money', and besides being a Harvard economics professor (which should be strikes two and three against him), is one of the few econ guys who gets it. In an interview with him earlier this year, he commented that he had just finished researching fiat currencies that used to exist. He also remarked that he was unable to find any fiat currency not backed by PM's that has lasted more than 40 years - in human history! Nixon took the US off the last vestige of gold convertibility in 1971. I'll let the esteemed readers of ZH do the math....
And his volumes on the Rotheschildes were in the least revealing.
In September of 2011, tens of thousands of enraged Americans bust through cordons of military personnel and break into Fort Knox, after economic conditions deteriorate to the point of desperation.
They find that the facility only contains the equipment that was used to fill Twinkies with their proprietary cream center since 1933.

2011: Year 2 of the great social revolution
Black Swan prediction for 2011: The Stuxnet computer virus or a variant will reappear and temporarily shut down the European financial system. WikiLeak hacktavists will be blamed for the cyber attack, but in reality it will be a false-flag attack initiated for the express purpose of imposing a bank holiday to prevent the collapse of the Euro. What are your Black Swan predictions for 2011?
Martial law established in a Eurozone country.
The ocean of goo on the bottom of the GoM will seep up through a new fault in Indiana, flooding Gary and polluting Lake Michigan, as Matt Simmons comes back from the dead, yelling "I told you sons of bitchez!"
Nassim Taleb is attacked and seriously wounded by a gaggle of rabid black swans that appear out of nowhere as he walks in Central Park, which is an official μ ± 6σ range event, or that which only happens once every 1.5 million years, statistically speaking.
Coincidentally, Taleb's life is saved because he's carrying a copy of his book, 'The Black Swan,' which he uses to shield his face and neck from the angry, stabbing beaks.

Gold. Gold will get CRUSHED
Beware the crowded trade.
Another point of view:
Posted: Friday , 31 Dec 2010NEW YORK (REUTERS) -
Commodity spiral could lead to demand destruction and price reversals
Higher and higher commodity prices, slow Western recovery and China likely moves to combat inflation could see commodity prices fall in 2011
http://www.mineweb.com/mineweb/view/mineweb/en/page72068?oid=117700&sn=Detail&pid=66
"The world economy is resting on policymakers in China. If the interest rate rises don't reduce inflation there, eventually the population could become very difficult to govern," said Peter Cohan, a financial markets commentator in Malborough, Massachusetts.
"If the resulting instability leads to a decline in Chinese demand, those betting on a weak dollar and ever-rising commodities prices could be in for a world of hurt
However, gold and silver are unlike other commodities in that they are hedges against inflation. The dollar might get stronger against other currencies, however that doesn't automatically mean that it will get stronger against gold and silver.
Gold is less than 1% of financial assets. Prior to 1980 it was between 20 and 30%.
Seems like the dollar trade is the crowed one to me...
But hey, the world needs suckers too.
Beware the crowded trade.
So GMF, FRN's is not the most crowded, crowded trade in history?
Thanks ZH, and all who comment here - wishing for peace in the new year.
Nothing will change that matters next year, except cost-push inflation.
The USA continues its long slow slide into Detroit-ism.
The market. The market will be DESTROoOYED
What market?
Fool.
I think in 2011....we will see stocks continue to rally with commodities till summer...then the muni crisis starts and stocks drop and commodities take a pull back..but astonish everyone because they continue to rally...(and alot of money rushes into muni bonds thinking it's a good deal).by fall bernanke comes out and says he's going to do qe3 (stocks get little pop and drop) to get the states through the winter and then commodities go really crazy..like we've never seen. gold will hit at least 1900-2400, silver 70-90.
But who knows this could all fall apart at the drop of a hair if the holders of the world want to turn dollars into hard assets all at once....but I think that ones reserved for a special time in 2012;)
happy new year zerohedge thanks for all that everyone does.
1) The Fed continues to support the political incumbency. When the GOP takes over Ron Paul decides to work with the Fed. Bernanke lasts even longer than Greenspan.
2) New age theology declares god is really a race of extra-terrestrials. New churches are built, and some think the alien overseers are satanic equivalents, and propose the Star Wars type defense system to protect the planet. Economists celebrate the new stimulus spending.
3) Obama's challenger in 2012 accuses him of racism. 45% of America agrees. (the new majority)
4) Interest rates on UST are higher than lending rates. This as viewed as a positive move on the Feds part to encourage borrowing. The carry trade comes to Main Street. People max out their credit cards to buy T Bills.
5) The global economy stops, which benefits America the most. A new age of American hegemony begins.
6) The next use of nuclear weapons will be a preemptive attack made by the US against one of their perceived enemies. The US will walk out of the UN, and turn that building into a Hilton hotel. Liberals and peace-niks will get water cannoned. 45% of Americans will agree.
7) Wealthy expatriots who thought the empire was folding and who took their money out of the country, will have to pay to come back. They will find being an American anywhere else is not healthy.
8) After the rest of the world economy crashes the dollar will rise, Wall Street will shut down, and capital will be entirely private.
9) Multinational corporations are taxed at both ends.
10) We scrape the egalitarian slogan off the Statue of Liberty, and somebody spray paints something crude, like "Don't fuck with me". 45% of Americans agree.
5) The global economy stops, which benefits America the most. A new age of American hegemony begins.
Brilliant idea. Could really happen in medium term.
Happy New Year to all ZH readers from the Black Forest.
Maybe, but this is crazy - being an American anywhere else is not healthy
Look, being an American in America is not healthy

The guy needs to get out more.
I'd like so share a Radiohead song with all of you. The lyrics are pretty discernable but the title is "Optimistic" and the theme seems to be perfect for the recent kleptocratic times as the "Big fish eat the little ones" and all those "Living on the Animal Farm."

As long as F---ing is more popular than dying this planet and specifically the people on it will never come to grips with its problems including the 800 pound gorillas Christianity, Islam, Judaism etc.
Popullution is the overriding problem: Too many people, not a SHORTAGE of oil, water, food etc.
In short, we are FUCKED!! (Play on words) Milestones
Hmmm, well, you do have it in your power to begin to 'decrease the surplus population'...
We'll all watch....
Oh, forgot to add "GOD bless you'
In 2011, all the Malthusians will do the rest of us a favor and finally kill themselves.
Nothing of value will be lost in the transaction.
Pie in the sky optimist!!!!
ZPG (zero population growth) was something that used to be debated quite a bit back in the 1970s, but talking about that seems to have become out of fashion in the last 30 years. It benefits the overlords to have a big surplus of serfs.
From probably the biggest lurker on this site, I would like to thank Zerohedge and its readers for creating such a great, informative beacon of light in dark times. Continue to fight the good fight.
A happy new year to all!

Happy New Year to all the ZH crew (both binderables and nonbinderables) as well as all space monkeys!
first post....been lurking for a long spell before finally requesting membership.
I PREDICT that wikileaks will disclose the following information:
archaeologist uncovers historic, rough-draft manuscript buried in a lead box in the backyard of the Jefferson plantation. the document bears some resemblance to the Declaration of Independence and includes numerous strike-throughs and cross-outs. the highlight is an inscription at the bottom of the document that says ‘Burn After Reading’. wikileaks plans to release the full manuscript through the Zero Hedge website.
happy new year everyone
I worked for a general contractor in the midwest for many years whose customers were among the wealthiest people in the world. Always dealt with the wives and their architects, the husbands rarely, if ever, were present. They didn't seem to live very happy or fulfilling lives. I, on the other hand, live in a suburb that experienced major demographic(ethnic) changes because of zero down mortgage loans(the domino effect). I have always lived a frugal life and I am debt free, except for the exorbitant real estate taxes that are needed to pay the union teachers, firemen, police, elected officials, and municipal workers that have yet to take their haircut. I read this site at least 4 hours a day and I am grateful that I found you. I am a union carpenter with 32 years of experience and have always taken my craft seriously. Unemployed or not, I am on top of the world. I am ready for whatever happens next. Happy New Year, everyone P.S. I am running for alderman in my dysfunctional community in 2011. I hope I can convince my mexican neighbors to vote for me for my sake and theirs. We'll see
I live in Issa's district CA49, which is heavily Hispanic. One secret is this, Mexicans are against illegal immigration, probably more than most whites, because they hold their jobs, only until the next guy coming across the border offers to do it for less.
They are religious, have a strong work ethic, and want their kids to go to school and improve themselves. It's also true their kids get into gangs, but maybe that's just what happens when new minorities try to integrate. (Most of those guys in the movie Gangs of NY City are white?)
The hardest part is getting them into English, as the parents sometimes go their entire lives with minimal English. But when you talk to the younger ones they understand. Good luck, and sounds like you will make a good alderman.
Thank you for your thoughtful reply,tgu... I plan to visit at least 400 of the most regular voting residences in my ward. My opponent is our current school board president, but fortunately for me, he is yet another status quo democrat that was chosen by the democrat powers. I do not fear him. I am armed with my k-12 1960's education and work ethic, which by the current standard, is far superior and much more compelling. Thank you once again, tgu... ClassicalLib17
The status quo in education is under a lot of fire. Mostly they created a top heavy bureaucracy, and crowded classrooms, with fewer people actually teaching. The fallacy of the past decades, was that we can manage our way to excellence, and labor is a renewable resource, to be sourced and outsourced, and not a partner in the process. But my loyalty is working class all the way.
Best of luck with your own personal insurgency.
The thing about you Classic is that you have a real tangible skill. Most Americans think chicken is something wrapped in plastic and work means shuffling papers around.
I predict the few Americans left who actually know how to do something will do well.
Welcome ClassicalLib, we need more of you here.
Happy New Year!...good luck on your new venture...and never ever let the bastards beat you down ;-)
Happy New year ZHers!! Lets do it AGAIN next year!

Have a great New Year!
God bless America
Here's to happy and throughly uneventful (ha) new year, cheers you lot.
Still a few minutes in the trading day left before the new year for the discount rate to finally collapse.
There's a fair bit of turmoil in the short-term money market, though it tends to be greatly ignored.
Just a little holiday cheer to capture the mood of 2011 after the bankers finish doing unto us proletarians.

Good thing the PPT didn't leave before the close. Otherwise, there may have been a down day.
Thanks all ZH staff and readers. Next year will be a real shitstorm.

My forecast for 2011:
1. Servicers, in their greed, continue to foreclose on homes, because they make more on fees from foreclosure than loan mod's. They abandon any form of fiuciary responsibility to the investors who's portfolios are administered by the servcers (servicers in this case are the TBTFbanks). Only when it is too late will the servicers start offering signicant reductions in principal to stop the fall of prices. However the tipping poing will have been reached and marginal increases in foreclosures will effect a greater delta in price reductions...the point of no return will have been reached.
2. BAC will go tits up from the sting of a thousand bees...Timmeh and the Bernank will try to save it but will fail.
3. As RMBS sours and the economy slows CMBS failures will rise. Yields on investment funds will diminishand defaults will occur.
4. Municipalities and some states will default
5. The stock market will be bouyed by the Fed until reality hits investors and they scramble to take profits (or get their money out) before every one else.
6. The derivative exposure to all the preceding bankrupts the world.
7. Canned goods, rice, beans and ammo cannot be purchased.
8. Anarchy breaks out in the inner cities as services become unavailable. Lawlessness prevails under marshall law. Many people die. Thousands of wall street financiers and bankers are hunted down and killed.
9. The guvmnt waits until the worst is over before moving the troops in to re-establish basic services and security.
10. Obama vacations in Hawaii
11. 2012 starts with new hope and beginnings; the corrupt elite have been wiped out, the playing field is even and opportunies abound as never seen in our lifetime. People who work hard and smart prosper. The welfare/entitlment systems is voted down. Antitrust laws with teeth are enacted ensuring the end of oligopolies. Lobbying is outlawed. Only people who pay taxes are allowed to vote. Real campaign finance laws are enacted. We drill for new oil while embarking on a plan to wean ourselves off of fossil fuels in the next 20 years. A new law regarding governance for major corporations and investors is enacted and it contains the following provisons: a. Any investor using OPM must have skin in the game; b. any investor and executive of a corporation may only take bonuses when the entity is profitable, when the entity loses money, an unlimited clawback provision will apply to the assets of the executive and investor when their companies or funds lose money; c. A new law will be passed called the 'fair and smart businessperson law' which will allow the prosecution of any executive or investor who acts unethically or in bad faith, trial to be with a jury and this law to supercede all other laws...the question the jury must answer is, "Would the defendent have acted the same way if it was his/her own money at risk." If the answer is no, then a minimum mandatory sentence of 20 years.
Perfect competition (recogmizing economies of scale are important as well) in almost all industries creates better and cheaper products and creates an affluent society.

Pimco's Gross Says Avoid Dollar-Denominated Government Debthttp://www.bloomberg.com/video/65602098/
Good one.
Who would have thought that Mexico and Canada would be favored over the US as destinations for credit market investments. Better yet, who would have thought that it would be Bill Gross making that call.

Hopefully. Venezuela is an object lesson for any other nation considering going full retard.
Viva, Honduras. They rock.
Thanks for a great year, Tyler & Co., regulars & all.
Thanks ZH crew, commentators, advertisers et. al.
Awesome site and while I may not agree with the Fight Club mentality, it works.
The articles are awesome, some commentators are absolutely brilliant. Won't name names, but y'all know who y'all are. A real education it's been.
This is a financial site, so it's good to remember that money is mammon. It's a dance with the devil.
May we all remember the distinction between Wealth and money, between value and price and the fact that none of this can be taken with us when the great one in the sky calls.
Here's wishing everyone an insightful year ahead.

"It's a dance with the devil"...
almost a decade of loop-taped noise, played over and over, meant to confuse and belittle TRUTH!
Just maybe the Devil's Dream stops by 9/11/11 ...

Do not ridicule others who have sincere doubts, have factual information, that directly contradicts the...
'Offal-CIA-L 9/11 Omission Report' .
People want believable and scientific explanations from those in government.
Who had the motive, means, and opportunity to pull off a 9/11?
If you are too lazy or fearful, to check into the facts, what does that make you?
Scholars for 9/11 truth have developed reams of scientific data.
Michael Ruppert published an exhaustive account of the case from the viewpoint of a trained investigator.
David Ray Griffin provides a context for the unanswered or badly answered questions that should nag at anyone who pretends to love this country.
Are you afraid that you will learn the truth ... you can handle it!
Truth DP, may it be relished and not shunned this year.
I'll raise a toast to that with you.
Best wishes for the year.
