NHK Reports Hydrogen Explosion At Fukushima Reactor #3 As New Tsunami Is Heading For The Plant
As a new 5 meter Tsunami is expected to hit Fukushima again, and residents are being advised to immediately get to higher ground, an explosion had been heard coming out of Reactor #3 at the power plant at 11:08 am local time. Supposedly this is a hydrogen explosion just like on Saturday, although the credibility of everyone involved at this point is zero. Dow Jones confirms that only the shell of the third reactor remains.
Follow the latest at NHK in what is becoming the most surreal news night in history.

I am watching NHK and MSNBC alternately...this is what is coming out. They have a live heli feed near Fukushima
Incredible.
OK. that link has a guy talking now saying "no tsunami detected." I think it's a little early for a global panic. Nuclear meltdown is nothing like a 'nuclear bomb' it's more like a dirty bomb. If a dirty bomb goes off in Japan, that's bad, but not really bad for the US. So, yes, it's pretty crappy for everyone over there and I wish them the best, but no, Californians, you're not going to die.
1. Yes it impacts the U.S. If the prevailing winds blow a radiactive cloud over the West Coast that's a big deal.
2. It's bad because that area can't be decontaminated...at least for the next 10,000 years.
"but no, Californians, you're not going to die."
All Californians will die.
Unless they have accessed the secret to eternal life. Whatever that is.
genius. though apparently it's cannabis. some girl on HuffPo said it was the secret to all of the world's needs. I think you'll agree she was reasonably likely to be a California resident.
Couldn't resist.

There can be only one!
Bankers epic fail
Also, new 10 foot tsunami

There are going to be alot of Japs with permanent orange afros...
Purdue/Indiana State. Bitch.
I guess nobody has ever seen Spies Like Us...
It was a good bet. All the reactors are the same so they should all blow their tops.
"As New Tsunami Is Heading For The Plant"
If that is the case I don't think a couple of diesel generators are going to cut the mustard.
I am with you on that.
No mustard cutting.
Correction.
"If that is the case I don't think a couple of diesel generators are going to pass muster."
muster, Bitchez
fuk_ushima me.....
this building seems to have really blown up, not just the top like the first building..
The world could be coming to an end and Blythe is slamming the PMs; she is really pissing against the wind (can women do that or do they have to stand on their heads?)
Breaking: BOJ liquidity operation is now at 15T yen.
that's like..... what? $12,273.88?
Wow. 183 billion in US
Put it in perspective though:
-One of the largest earthquakes in history
-Massive tsunamis wiping everything out
-Multiple nuclear fuck meltdowns
....bankstars still got 600 billion more with carte blanche
what a time, eh?
Could they take a carrier up there and park as close as possible. Then run power cables and pipelines to the shore? I would think the carrier could provide all the power nessecary and ride out these aftershocks/tsunamis.
Great idea.
Plus, we could use some good publicity.
No way. U.S. carriers are needed in the Persian Gulf to suppress those unruly freedom fighters that are giving Hillary heartburn and gas.
Or they could land some Oshkosh HEMIT trucks and plug them in.
"Today, Oshkosh Defense is the only tactical vehicle provider contracted with the U.S. Army and Marine Corps for ProPulse®hybrid diesel-electric technology. As a component of the HEMTT A3 and MTVR respectively, ProPulse technology increases fuel economy up to 20 percent and delivers up to 120 kW of exportable military grade energy."
Yeah. We could power Japan using the carrier.
Is the captain of that ship Chuck Norris?
better push the clock up a few more hours and get the day overwith
Smoking marijuana is known to alter the negative effects of radiation and bad government. Try it.
Sanjay Gupta is in FuKushima. Cannot out run radiation.
Potassium Iodine is cheap. Get some for peace of mind. Everyone should read up on surviving a nuclear event.
Alex Jones did a show on this today. Eating kelp is actually one of the best foods for this. http://www.infowars.com/listen.html
DOW and SPX futures rise, I shit you not...
UN-BE-FUCKING-LIEVABLE.
I said something a couple weeks ago in jest...
Went along the lines...
If we had a nuclear holocaust that's good for 1000 DOW points...
unfucking believable indeed.
DOW futures -22...
I mean, for fuck sake, are you joking??? Why not just have a press conference and declare the market is dead.
You just woke up bed head?
The nikkei is capitulating..
All those sales are just flooding into the US futures...
You know, that's gotta be the reason.
When reactor #1 had its "hydrogen" explosion event, it happened and that was it. Lots of concrete dust, but no continuing smoke.
This event at #3 is showing a continuing steam trail. Is that from a breached containment vessel, or is it due to the sea water dumping that took place?
Kind of freaky.
Bldg #3 has blown up...before & after on NHK and MSNBC live right now clearly show 2 outer containment bldgs destroyed.
#1 on far left, top half blown, bldg 3 looks like it lost all its concrete. 2 & 4 still look pristine
No way of telling for sure, could be the speed of the film as translated, or the angle....but I did not see the characteristic quick dome expansion of a hydrogen explosion, It is worrying.
VIDEO OF #3 BLOWING
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIZKlaEZMLY
The lighting is definitely off as well. How can you be sure of anything you're seeing? I played it backwards and I don't even see an explosion at all.
#3 reactor has a uranium/plutonium fuel mix.

Settle down. The US is going to be OK. Your money to any help fund would be better spent by buying some extra food and having extra water for yourself. Japan is short of supplies now---- pay attention and stock a reasonable amount of stuff you might need in the event of a flood, or other events that might impact your area. If the worry gets out of hand you may want to seek some friends for help. Leave the gun at home and get a quick open knife (with a clip on for your pocket) and keep it in your pocket. That is better than the backpack idea. You can quickly get to it and it has less legal problems. Go easy on yourself, things will get better.

Obama isn't good in crisis, wrecks his golf game. (Mkt take note)
Let's show a little mercy, here. His wife was beaten with an ugly stick.
video of #3 explosion
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dx6IS0vrZOk&feature=youtu.be
That explosion differs from the first.
There is a fireball at the very beginning of your clip.
Hydrogen? Doesn't look like the first one.
Hydrogen could certainly make a fireball. If the hydrogen builds up over time, which makes sense, then the more recent explosion would have been from a larger mass of accumulated hydrogen. So it makes sense to me that this could have been a hydrogen explosion, and worse than the first one.
Clearly worse than the first one, though. The outer building was completely blown apart. My guess would be that whatever equipment in that building that they are using to cool the core could suffer some serious damage in an explosion like that.
And I'm guessing that my speculations here are the best case scenario.
At 0.05-0.08, there's the telltale skullface in the top of the blast cloud.
LMAO
Blythe baby don't freak out. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were both hit by nukes and came back. We shot off nukes in the pacific and the French nuked the hell out of the Islands around Tahiti. I'm not saying things a great. But radiation if it get's to the West coast will be minimal. Folks in Denver probably get a higher dosage of radiation based on the altitude.
The USD/JPY should be over 90 by now, with all this money the Japanese have to print to cover this mess.
Risk Off tomorrow?
video looks like steam venting to me. I cant tell if there are two Rx Bldgs destroyed or just the one. Pressure is probably around 1,000 psig and when safety or relief valves open at that pressure it can sound like an explosion at first. EDIT: Looks like 2 Rx Bldgs blown away - upper half of each. Damn.
At some point what they showed on TV was definitely steam venting....which means some serious radiation release.
2 bldgs destroyed, #1 and #3
how significant is the apparent fact (reported by the NY Times and suggested by the TEPCO pressers) that they can't get portable generator power to #3, unlike the situation with #1 and 2 Daiichi?
I wonder how bad things have to get before people realize they can stop trolling
well, I can't speak for all the other Trolls here, but I'm here to estimate potential damages to my own sorry ass - and it's called "comic relief", ya dim-wit
Godzilla has been spotted only 5 kilometers from the outskirts of tokyo.
This is very grave indeed.
Where is Comrade President Obama? Playing midnight basketball? Another vacation?
Why bring up Obama when he has nothing to do with this?
It's Bush's fault!!!
Does anybody find it interesting that both explosions were followed by (a split second after the initial explosion) a "round" or smoke-ring (donut) shaped supersonic compression cloud ?
Isnt the shape of the Nuclear vessel round with the cooling water vents under the base in the shape of a donut ?
You think that we would see "any" steam rising from either the #1 or #3 ? Afterall aren't they "pouring" cold sea water on them ? I call bullshit to what we are being told !
I love the MSM
Everything is ok and good for a ramp-up on the futures.
Winning !
God help the Japanese people !
Was there a video of the 2nd Rx Bldg blowing up? I didn't see it - just steam venting from the damaged structure. The shock wave seen in the first RB explosion is consistent with large pressure wave - consistent with massive H2 explosion. Primary Containment (and Rx vessel w/in) are lower down in the RB - if that blew up there would be no Bldg left from the ground up.
Here ya go Fuku building #3 explosion
This one came from the base of the building and not just the top !
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6eU6_otXGCg
That's the same damn video that EVERYBODY has posted of Reactor #3 blowing up!
There's some guy soaking up blow at :12 seconds in; that's the giveaway ...
.
Here, you're not going to like it....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dx6IS0vrZOk&feature=youtu.be
There's a fireball that gets sucked back into the building right at the beginning. I am willing to believe it was hydrogen, but holy shit that's a very damaging blast--large amounts of concrete falling back to earth etc.
Wow. That explosion looks worse than Unit 1 but it may be angle etc. I'd be worried about the Spent Fuel pool - its up at basically the same level as the top of the Reactor cavity on the refuel floor. That area has to be open to atmosphere now. Gotta keep that covered boys.
12 Junks!
You cannot make this shit up.
There are some very nasty people that lurk around here!
It really ruins it for people that are being serious.
You need to grow some thick, leathery skin if you're gonna hang around here baby.
probably deleted first, mistaken as a troll.
Don't you get deleted by the system if you accumulated a certain # of junks?
I have been reading this blog for a long time! You people are some of the smartest on the net, as far as I have seen.
I want to learn and engage!
Here's your conflict -
Stick around, watch and learn. The water usually warms up around here. Usually.
I believe it's 50 junks and the comment disappears.
every time you change yer avatar, some of 'em start lining you up in cross-hairs
here's what I don't understand.... 2 buildings destroyed and no damage to reactor core? Could someone please explain this to me.
The part of the Bldg destroyed - at least the first one - Unit 1 - was the upper levels. Primary Containment (the drywell) is below that level. The Rx vessel is inside the drywell. That didn't explode. Can't see the latest Rx Bldg photos up close enough to tell but probably the same deal. They were venting H2 out of the drywell and apparently it is igniting inside the upper levels of the Rx Bldg (secondary containment). So its entirely likely that the drywell is intact as the explosion was outside of the drywell. This is based on looking at pics you are looking at - and knowing how these are built. I've been inside similar BWRs - a lot. What's concerning is that the spent fuel pool is now probably exposed to atmosphere - which isn't a big problem as long as they keep water in it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6eU6_otXGCg
At 0.09-0.10, see anything to challenge your speculation?
Man, that does not look good. It looks like several tons of concrete blasted straight up 600 to 800 feet into the air, then fall straight back down on the reactor.
U3 explosion looks worse than U1 but net result may not be different. Not good, regardless. Spent fuel pool is another concern.
@ Kaiser Zose
thanks for that . I'm on Vancouver Island , B. C., Canada and think it may be wise to pick up some potassium iodide to be on the safe side seeing as how we're directly in the path of the air stream.
I wouldn't go crazy w/ KI...you're 3,000 miles away roughly...following Chernobyl, people at that distance really didn't need KI...its more for those immediately local to the fallout that get heavy doses of radio Iodine. I wouldn't take it unless credible medical doctors recommend it and only based on actual presense of Iodine, not just speculation.
The #3 explosion was a lot bigger than the #1 explosion. I don't know how the reactor vessel is supposed to withstand this kind of thing. Also agree that the 'white smoke' AKA steam is most likely uncontained venting of the reactor vessel, if it's not something worse (blown vessel).
CNN falling all over themselves to present 'no health risk' bullshit of the highest calibre....large-bore disinformation....
Please give us an honest update. Or at least an unauthorized heli flyover wildcat video so we can see the damn vessel is still there.
Watched #1 & #3 explosions back to back. #3 has flames (or red something), #1 doesn't. I know someone said the reactors used different fuels...does this explain the difference in the explosions? Or, if the reactors really weren't damaged why would the explosions look so different? Just don't feel like anyone "official" is telling the truth.
Type of fuel shouldn't make any difference w/ what you see as (assumedly) both are hydrogen explosions. H2 is H2. It's not nuclear fuel that we see in the explosions. U3 does look like a bigger blast but we may just not have had the right angle to see the same during initial U1 explosion. Hard to read too much into the relative size of each blast, other than the upper parts of each RB were severely damaged.
