Osama Bin Laden Killed: Implications First Take

Tyler Durden's picture

From Stratfor

Osama bin Laden Killed

The United States has killed al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and recovered his body, according to numerous media reports May 1 citing U.S. officials. U.S. President Barack Obama is scheduled to make an announcement on the subject. It is not clear precisely how bin Laden was killed or how his body was recovered, but the assertion that he is dead is significant.

Bin Laden had become the symbol of al Qaeda, even though the degree to which he commanded the organization was questionable. The symbolic value of his death is obvious. The United States can claim a great victory. Al Qaeda can proclaim his martyrdom.

It is difficult to understand what this means at this moment, but it permits the Obama administration to claim victory, at least partially, over al Qaeda. It also opens the door for the beginning of a withdrawal from Afghanistan, regardless of the practical impact of bin Laden’s death. The mission in Afghanistan was to defeat al Qaeda, and with his death, a plausible claim can be made that the mission is complete. Again speculatively, it will be interesting to see how this affects U.S. strategy there.

Equally possible is that this will trigger action by al Qaeda in bin Laden’s name. We do not know how viable al Qaeda is or how deeply compromised it was. It is clear that bin Laden’s cover had been sufficiently penetrated to kill him. If bin Laden’s cover was penetrated, then the question becomes how much of the rest of the organization’s cover was penetrated. It is unlikely, however, that al Qaeda is so compromised that it cannot take further action.

At this early hour, the only thing possible is speculation on the consequences of bin Laden’s death, and that speculation is inherently flawed. Still, the importance of his death has its consequences. Certainly one consequence will be a sense of triumph in the United States. To others, this will be another false claim by the United States. For others it will be a call to war. We know little beyond what we have been told, but we know it matters.

The fact that all this went down just outside Islamabad is akin to bin Ladin hiding outside the Washington Beltway for the last 10 years while the Pentagon searched in vain.

With friends like Pakistan, who needs friends?

Think of the last decade of favors, bull-shitting, money, drones, nuke help and the rest that Pakistan played the US taxpayers the fool for.

What a complete disgrace on behalf of all the fallen Americans and innocent civilians in AfPak that got killed because the ISI wanted a clever ride. 10 years of stabbing the US in the back.  Pakistan caused more harm to America than all of AQ.

If this nation had any sense or pride, we would nerve gas Pakistan for all their "help" in this fisaco - largely created by THEM!

Where is Zawahiri?  Having lunch at the Pakistani AF Officer's club?

Thanks for nothing Pakistani fuck-o's.

India has been ready for the last 2 decades to turn that piece-o-crapistan into a molten slab of glass. However, it was thwarted at every attempt by yours truly, Uncle Sam. The place where OBL was found was in a place called Abbotabad. You know what is unique about the name? Abbott-abad. Yup that s right named after an ex-british guy pre-independence. You know why that's important? Any anglicanized names sounding places on the sub-continent have traditionally had military bases of one form or another around. I am willing to bet where OBL was hiding was a stone's throw away from some kind of a army base.

ISI and the Pakistan Army have been playing the US tax payer and uncle sam for a fool. Its nothing new. They have been doing this for decades. Pakis are some of the vilest double crossing bastards on the planet. Just look up General Zia-ul-Haq. A human excrement if there was any....

Now wait a minute.  That may be true, but I think more likely you are confusing cause and effect.

Is it that an event always knocked down oil and  PMs as they topped?

Or that they topped because some event happen which knocked them down?

I suspect it is the latter.

Also consider, if this was the nefarious plan, how effective has it been?  Not very.

OBL was most likely taken out in 2007, but you have to remember that there is no profit in peace, so why announce it? That would only mean that the contractors' party would be over. NO WAY!

They can dna test to see if it really is him. Osama first denied then admitted he was behind twin towers.

Now maybe he had some help from the israelis or another group but it may be a good excuse to extricate ourselves from afghanistan, so his death has to be a good thing. I am pleased, but i want all the other culprits too.

I am happy he is gone and rejoicing.  However, this does not change much.  Osama was a figurehead, a symbol, who we targeted our hate and made our mission to kill.  The actual enemy are the terrorists.  It is tough to say so soon, but this may embolden the terrorists or shatter their beliefs and demoralize them.  I unfortunately believe more in the former rather than the latter.  This is a great occasion, don't get me wrong, but its significance is more or less hollow.  Nothing has been solved.  The same problems we had a week ago are still ever-present. Tyler, keep monitoring the back channels, this will be used as a cloak to hide meaningful happenings in the back pages.

You forget that Ben Laden's is America's own Frankenstein monster...created by Bill Casey of CIA  and Turki  ben Faisal, his Saudi counterpart, prince of ruling Saud clan, and minister of security and army in kingdom. It all started to use muslim fanatism against Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1980. America's man in charge of Pakistan was Persident Zia ul Huq, who created the Taibans, the ISI, and aided their effort in Aghanistan as he was a fundamentalist. Twenty years later the same poison cookies turned rogue against their US  mentors, especially as aftermath of their power play in ME, when they attacked Iraq in Operation Desert Storm, occupying permanently holy land of Saudi since 1991. That was the casus belli that Ben Laden used to attack USA on 9/11. So this is just part of the shit storm that the CIA created for itself with its Saudi surrogates. China aided the PAk nuclear program started clandestinely in 1975 'cos USA wouldn't after the USSR imploded.

In fact they had their local point man, Zia, probably killed in 1988 for being stubborn about continuing PAk nuclear  deal inhouse and for supporting Hekmateyar in Afghanistan when the CIA had dropped him as being too rabid and pro Iran; after soviet withdrawal from Kabul.

Nope in 1980 he was in Saudi, where his billionaire Ben Laden family lives, friends of the Saud princes and one of the main civil contractors of the Kingdom. Ossama volunteered to head the Saudi task force seconded to Afghanistan by the joint CIA/Saudi venture (Turki/Casey) to lead/forment counter insurgency in Afghan after Soviet attack. The rest is Ossama's personal history and well documented on wiki.

How appropriate to use George Friedman’s  pro-war, pro-Israel, neo-conservative Stratfor, completely biased as a source, at a moment when truth is so desperately needed.

That said, just be thankful that the U.S. didn’t capture bin Laden alive and bring him over here for trial.

Already the MSM is using bin Laden’s death as a tool to excuse Israeli aggression in Palestine and the Middle East, pulling out such bin Laden video quotes as this in tonight’s coverage:

“Our terrorism is against America.  Our terrorism is a blessed terrorism to prevent the unjust person from committing injustice and to stop American support for Israel, which kills our sons.”

Sandy Berger, President’s Clinton’s national security adviser with strong ties to Israel, told ABC News: “Osama bin Laden may be the most dangerous non-state terrorist in the world."

Already, the state-controlled media has labeled bin Laden the “most wanted man on earth,” who “left a violent mark.”

This kind of overdone, one-sided injustice is the reason for the revolutions in the Middle East; this kind of one-sided blind hate-rhetoric is what’s turning the peoples in the ME against their U.S. puppets.  America has turned Iran into one of the strongest nations in the ME by following a Netanyahu-foreign policy of hatred.

That’s why the World Trade Center was targeted, many say with Israeli help in order to implicate their enemies. That’s why you can’t get on an airplane without being strip searched.

If Americans want to adopt Israeli foreign policy as their own, then they must adopt the enemies of Israel as their own.  That comes with the war on terror.  The people who would like to destroy Israel because Israel is destroying them will destroy you – even to blowing up themselves to kill you.  Israel must be happy to have you die for their aggression in Palestine, instead of them.  I have yet to notice Israeli soldiers in Afghanistan, or Iraq, or in all the other trouble spots of the world.  It is American soldiers and American money that I see.

Bin Laden considered the U.S. and Israel as evil; the problem is, the U.S. turns out to be Israel and, now, we’re to take the bullets.

SECURITY concerns are believed to have been behind the postponement of Prince William and his new wife's honeymoon. The newlyweds surprised many by revealing that they would not be immediately travelling overseas for the traditional post-wedding break.

The couple will instead spend time at an undisclosed location in the UK before Prince William goes back to work next week. The sudden change came despite aides having said consistently that the honeymoon would immediately follow the wedding.

There was speculation it may have been prompted by security concerns.

The couple were originally believed to have booked a honeymoon in Jordan

Haven't read through comments yet.

Did I just hear on the radio (Ireland) that he was buried at sea?

Oil prices will go down now. thank you Saudi royals for selling your own citizens out and keeping the monarchy over crude going so US can keep the gravy train going.

Driving the little guy back into the markets so the big guys will be able sell.

Can't crash the markets while the big guys are still in.

As I said before, call me a skeptic, but there were reports that Bin Laden was dead years ago from kidney failure. Listening to the spin last evening reporters kept pounding away that this was a victory psychologically that comes at a time when American sentiment is at an all time low as was the Presidents ratings along with a crumbling financial empire. Gold and silver took a minimal hit and then recovered, but the most interesting part of all of this was that Bin Ladens body was dumped in the ocean. Nice knowing there are still some things in life that make you go Hmmmmmmm.

Funniest shit in a long time as I had just watched WAG THE DOG agin last week-hahahhahhhehe-- what blows me away is that this short movie news completely took over the news. Mean while  Micheal Jacksons resurrection has not gotten a peep. Apparently LEGO bought the ash remains of Micheal and have incorporated his ashes into the Lego pieces (at least according to Micheals last will and testament) so that all the kids can play with him.

A spokesman said that the next greatest toy from them will be a replica RPG with real exploding poop grenades= way to kool.

Twaddle dee Twaddle DUM.

obama = neo con puppet

now that the body is gone, we're gonna need another warren/9.11 commission to figure out what happened.  not that it matters.  they have DNA evidence.  so, you don't need a body.  plus, this just in from my world-class intel pooper scooperZ:  we have OBL's Emmys and his golf clubs.  so there!

plus, the WH and g/Sachs have now gotten buffet to STFU and put him and becky away for a while.  (didya see her leading the way into the annual meeting of Berk.Hath.?)  they did poorly, due to insurance, but the 1/2 $Bn up-tick from the RR was nice.  this is one of buffet's "regulated businesses" as opposed to, say, moody's, which still needs to rate dagong, as far as i'm concerned.

now, we shld hear from ann coulter, cheney and rummy; and of course, kissinger.  then they can raise the debt ceiling, and our banksters can go rape greece for the NWO, save europe (after the euro hits 150+) and see if they can keep japan reflated.

they "got" bin laden, but they missed the moQ.  the CIA is now free to flip-flop all over the place.  who knows what will blow up next, and why...  at least they didn't take him out with a drone.  flying a little remote-controlled plane into a building--how cowardly!

I'm really glad this site exists.  The second I read the news(I don't have cable) and the part about "buried at sea," I had my doubts.

It's good to know there's a place where I can come where I'm not alone in this thinking.

Kudos to everyone.

The signs are all around that Amerika's best days are behind us. Even for those willing to see, you might not cue in on all of those signs. I am struck this morning at the stories and pictures of the sheeple literally wrapping themselves in flags and celebrating the death of a man, however despicable he is/was. These remind me of the pictures you would see in third world countries.

The US will unashamedly declare victory and withdraw from Afghanistan as planned and begin cutting back on defence spending. What happens in Afghanistan aftwerwards is irrelevent, since the country gets little media attention anyway.
