Spot Gold Passes $1,400

Tyler Durden's picture

We were 24 hours off with our estimate for $1,400 gold by EOD Friday. Nonetheless, the level has just been breached. It won't stop there.

Right, any way you slice it gold will at least be a BASIS element is some sort of new world currency that everyone is now clamoring daily for, and to fill that role it would have to be at LEAST $5,000 an ounce!

The central banksters PM puts must be strong indeed!

Honestly I'm amazed that it's only $1400.

Just wait until the masses realize what's going on. It's going to take a while, still.

Mon, 11/08/2010 - 14:04 | 708695 merehuman
merehuman's picture

soccer dad,  how high could it go.... well it costs roughly 5-600usd to mine and refine and coin  gold. Silver mining costs ought to be more or less in that range.

But then you see 5 times more gold than silver, so silver is more rare. Also gets used up and is much needed in industry. It will have to be much higher in price for reclamation purposes

Then add in the selling of silver certificates/stocks at a 100 to one oz available and the huge shorts effect. Now consider it has been suppressed along time (20+years)

I have given away 300+ ozs to unexpecting strangers in my town in my attempts to wake folks up. There are moments i have regretted that as now i am down to less than 200. I hope i dont give anymore away but always obey my heart and dont need money of any kind. I can live a long time without money.

Dumshit and fool i call myself. But at 59 i am gratefull as can be that i am still able to walk. Wheelchair bound twice a year each time, bad disks and bum knees and kept on hanging and taping sheetrock for many years. My utube channel is named 1mealperday because thats all thats needed unless one is working. I was a runaway when young, a hobo later on and only in the last 20 years did i get my material trip together. All i ever really wanted was a place to belong, a family i could call mine or one place i could call home. It never happened, just my fate. But it made me very strong in other ways and so i am thankful for all i have and am, especially the bad things that taught me the most. All that americans are about to be exposed to i am prepared for. Thats worth having.

I wish each and everyone of you the best, we are all family after all, thank the Source.

Most had not a clue. I hoped some of those folks would research what the 999 meant, or what silver is or money. If i saved just one life, if at least one person did the research and stocked their house with food my actions were justified. It actually was a thankless task as i left immediately after giving it and advising them to buy food and left a website.

As i read this i see my ego is bigger than i would like it to be per this evidence of my wanting to be noticed. I would like to think i am better than that. Evidently i have more growing up to do.

A BONUS!

Capital controls!

One can only wonder what will go on behind the closed doors of the upcoming G-20 meeting. One thing is for sure, the rest of the world is really pissed at the United States for the fiscal and monetary train wrecks they have caused. From a fiscal standpoint the U.S. has "out-Greeced, out-Irelanded and out-Spained" the rest of the world.

From a monetary standpoint the U.S. has become a complete joke and seems to be following Zimbabwean policy. It is clear that current policy can only end in complete ruin. The double whammy of foreigners no longer accepting Dollars and refusing to participate in Treasury debt auctions is where this will end up.

China will have lots to say at this meeting as they have become very uncharacteristically and publicly boisterous regarding both U.S. fiscal and monetary policy. The press is so bad that a duel to the death will occur yet it will be reported as a "love in"... anything but. In reality the USSA has only one policy tool left, only a war at this point could reverse capital flows as historically it moves toward the more mighty. Barring a war (even this might not do the trick) the Dollar has precious little time left as the world's reserve currency.

Foreigners surely know that the game of Dollar musical chairs is on and it is only a matter of time before some sovereign somewhere "chickens out".

Many point to Gold as being in a bubble which is ridiculous because less than 1% of Americans have ever held a Gold coin of any kind in their hands.  They do know PAPER however. It is paper that is in the greatest bubble ever imagined. Dollars, Treasuries, CMO's, CD's, name it, it is all paper with no value yet bid up to the moon. Someone wrote a very apropos piece a couple of years ago titled "Turtles all the way down" where they described the financial system as a stack of turtles piled one upon the other. The problem being that the turtle at the bottom was hanging in thin air with no base whatsoever.

THIS is the entire financial system because everything is based or backstopped by Dollars which have no backing whatsoever and as you know now can, must and most certainly will be printed to oblivion.

While today the markets are worried about Ireland and Portugal, they are not the problem, The U.S. is. For how long foreigners will continue to accept worthless chits of paper in exchange for real goods is any body's guess. The USSA's  trade deficit, and thus standard of living, will collapse like a house of cards once foreigners refuse Dollars and boycott debt auctions. The old saying that the only things certain are "death and taxes", ... add to this "all fiat currencies collapse" as another certainty.

Smell capital controls

A Canadian airline pilot reported this weekend US CUSTOMS AGENTS asking people leaving the USSA whether they had more than $10,000 on them! THIS smacks of a "fence" being erected to prevent capital flight. The next step is to electronically outlaw capital flows.

This is exactly what is coming soon.  Sure! you can leave anytime you want but good luck living without money because it's staying here. "Have a nice day!".

Now all that is needed is a couple more denials of a devaluation and it's a lock. Devalued currency that cannot exit and won't be honored even if it does. Scary stuff indeed!

My recommendation to ZH'ers in the U.S. is to go to their banks and order as many boxes of nickels as they can. Fill your basement or garage.

The current metal value of an american nickel is 6.3 cents. So that $100 box is worth $125 right off the bat. In a hyperinflationary event, who knows what it'll be worth.

But the beauty in this investment is that there is no downside - you have a play on both nickel and copper, an inflation hedge, and perhaps a long term numismatical play.

Your window of opportunity is now - with inflation about to explode, the current cupro-nickel compostion of the 5cent piece will almost certainly be replaced by something cheaper, maybe as early as next year.

Mon, 11/08/2010 - 14:35 | 708835 DoChenRollingBearing
DoChenRollingBearing's picture

Second that, although I have not gotten around to stripping the banks of their nickels, I just toss each day's nickels into 1 liter Aquafina bottles, almost 3 full liters of nickels.

Also agree that the mint will have to reformulate the nickel soon.
