Toyota Says It Will Have To Shut Down North American Factories, 25,000 Workers To Be "Affected"

Tyler Durden's picture

Remember the massive surge to world GDP courtesy of the Japanese disaster spouted by every idiot on CNBC? Well, here we go:

  • TOYOTA SAYS WILL HAVE TO SHUT DOWN N. AMERICAN FACTORIES
  • TOYOTA SAYS SHUTDOWNS MAY AFFECT 25,000 WORKERS

This is massively bullish for horse buggies and Flintstonemobiles.

Remember the BS from Toyota that their cars were made in the USA?  People can now recognize their statements as false.  95% of the parts are made in Japan and a bit of assembly is performed in the USA.

I knew Toyota would find a way out of my Lemon Law Hearing on my piece-0-shit Toyota Venza. My car has more issues that a Fukishima power plant. Fact is, nobody is going to notice; Toyota went from #1 in sales to barely making it. This just may be an excuse to pull out of US.

It may have been hasty but eventually the Quake will ripple to the US jobs market.  Supply chains are way to intertwined.

True - 100%. But there is a difference between supply interuptions - temporary shutdowns and closing an entire corporation from one end of the country to the other.

Of course - like all things Japenese these days - things could be much worse than we are lead to believe.

Time will tell.

Has anyone noticed that like 95% of the contestants on "WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE" are all UNEMPLOYED.  It's gotten so bad the last few months that they prob asked the host to not ask anymore. Go figure and we are in a RECOVERY of what.

Apparently many Japanese companies are now investing heavily in Thailand for manufacturing.

Seeking Alpha:

Japan's Fate Subject to the Winds

"What has struck me as strange in this crisis is the lack of aggressive attack from the get-go. The more aggressive you are during the early stages, the more options you are able to create to mitigate a nuclear event – and a boiling water reactor’s failure tree is slow moving. Do not believe because there are not daily events to watch that technicians are getting a grip – this is the nature of this beast."

"If the winds decide, the highly populated areas further south in Japan could be subjected to lethal levels of radiation. Japan’s future is literally resting with the winds. No country will accept radiated shipments coming from Japan."

"The ability to transfer power between zones is limited to 1 GW through frequency converters. This is literally nothing when you consider total generating capacity is 81 GW in the 50 hz zone where the damaged power plants lie. This electrical distribution problem will not go away in 6 months."

Here is a thesis...

USA falsly claims 'defective' throttle pedals in Toyotas to shift market share to US produced brands that are under threat.

In return, Toyota closes US plants to bring home jobs.

Yep, the global beggar thy neighbor is in full force...

Here is another thesis:

USA falsly claims "defective" throttle pedals in Toyotas to force the company into union labor.

In return, Toyota states any faulty parts are made in America and we might just have to return those jobs back to the motherland given you white devils can't make anything nearly as good as we can other than financial sophistry.

USA bows, clearly understanding additional job losses at this juncture might not be the best idea.

Earthquake happens, tsunami nails japanse reactors, clusterfuck of epic proportions ensues...  Toyota packs up shop anyway.

I love it, Toyota's not my favorite company at all, meanwhile Ford is on the rise.  I'm glad the American auto companies are at least seeing some renewed success during these hard times.
