U.S. Cattle Herd Is At A 61 Year Low And Organic Food Shortages Are Being Reported All Over America
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 01/23/2014 21:29 -0500
If the extreme drought in the western half of the country keeps going, the food supply problems that we are experiencing right now are only going to be the tip of the iceberg. The size of the U.S. cattle herd has dropped to a 61 year low, and organic food shortages are being reported all over the nation. Surprisingly cold weather and increasing demand for organic food have both been a factor, but the biggest threat to the U.S. food supply is the extraordinary drought which has had a relentless grip on the western half of the country. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, drought conditions currently stretch from California all the way to the heart of Texas. In fact, the worst drought in the history of the state of California is happening right now. And considering the fact that the rest of the nation is extremely dependent on produce grown in California and cattle raised in the western half of the U.S., this should be of great concern to all of us.
Security Expert Hacks Obamacare Website In 4 Minutes; Accesses 70,000 Records

The hits just keep on coming for ObamaCare. It was less than two weeks ago that we highlighted the potential premium rate death spiral that Obamacare faces due to the fact that only old and sick people are signing up for the program. Now it seems there are further security related concerns plaguing the site, as cyber-security expert David Kennedy recently claimed that “gaining access to 70,000 personal records of Obamacare enrollees via HealthCare.gov took about 4 minutes.” Simply put, he added, "Healthcare.gov was '100 percent insecure'."

The World According To Ron Paul
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 12/27/2013 19:22 -0500
With 72% of those polled believing "big Government" is more of a problem now than 4 years ago, it is hardly surprising that Ron Paul blasts "the failure of government is all around us" in this brief FOX news interview. Perhaps it is the fact that "Obamacare has been such a trasparent failure of big government," along with Keynesian economics, and the NSA debacles; that more and more of even the most liberal are realizing just what America has become. "It's really great news that people are starting to recognize this," Paul adds, because there is no way to replace the status quo "until people give up on what we have."
How Debtors' Prisons Are Making A Comeback In America
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 12/26/2013 14:32 -0500
Apparently having 5% of the world’s population, but 25% of its prisoners simply isn’t good enough for neo-feudal America. No, we need to find more creative and archaic ways to wastefully, immorally and seemingly unconstitutionally incarcerate poor people. Welcome to the latest trend in the penal colony formerly known as America. Debtors’ prisons. A practice we thought had long since been deemed outdated (indeed it has been largely eradicated in the Western world with the exception of about 1/3 of U.S. states as well as Greece).

While it took Japan over two years to admit the Fukushima situation on the ground is "out of control", a development many had predicted for years, a just as important topic is what are the implications of this uncontrolled radioactive disaster on not only the local environment and society but also globally, particularly Japan's neighbor across the Pacific - the US. To be sure, there has been much speculation, much of it unjustified, in the past two years debating when, how substantial and how acute any potential debris from Fukushima would be on the US. Which is why it was somewhat surprising to see the NOAA come out with its own modeling effort, which shows that not only "some buoyant items first reached the Pacific Northwest coast during winter 2011-2012" but to openly confirm that a debris field weighing over 1 million tons, and larger than Texas is now on the verge of hitting the American coastline, just west off the state of California.
Tired Of Living Without Your Triple Macchiato Spiced Latte? There's Food Stamps For That!

A disturbing story is starting to make waves once again on the internet, according to Ben Swann who notes, you can now pay for Starbucks with food stamps. The story, which previously aired on FOX12, sees Jackie Fowler, a Salem, Oregon food stamp recipient, went inside the luxury Starbucks franchise located inside of a Safeway grocery store with the local Fox News station filming. She purchased one tall Frappaccino and a slice of pumpkin loaf. Her total was $5.25. She slid out her Oregon Trail food stamp card, paid in part by the federal government, and handed it to the cashier who processed the transaction. Fowler only made the purchase to assist FOX but it indicates just how deeply the ECBT card has become embedded in US society when, as she notes, coffee's "overpriced as it is, that's money that somebody could be eating with."
FOX News Hacked: "Stuff Yo!"
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 11/05/2013 14:55 -0500
It would appear the main FOX News homepage has been hacked (most likely a DNS hack given some see no changes)... or perhaps this is what the mainstream media has become... "stuff yo!"... although the lack of slideshows and kittens suggests otherwise.
Guest Post: The Noble Lie Of Government Healthcare
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 11/03/2013 12:45 -0500
“If you like your health care plan, you can keep your health care plan.”
These words, spoken by U.S. President Barack Obama in various forms and iterations, have become a running joke amidst the rollout of the Affordable Care Act. All across the country, hundreds of thousands of citizens are receiving cancellation notices in the mail. The stringent requirements for insurance plans under the new edict are curtailing many individual policies. A simpleton can grasp the economics: you prohibit something, it goes away. And yet, for years prior, the White House ignored the oncoming train and is now slowly inching away from the wreckage.
This was not the unforeseen consequence of good-intentioned legislation.

Only a week ago, the consensus among most mainstream economic analysts and even some alternative analysts was that a government shutdown was not going to happen. The Republicans would fold in the shadow of President Barack Obama’s overwhelming drive for socialization, spending would continue to grow unabated, and the debt ceiling would be vaulted yet again to feed the bureaucratic machine with more fiat. Today, there is no consensus, very few people continue to be so blithely self-assured and even the mainstream is beginning to wonder if a much bigger game is afoot here.
Detroit Mayor Gets 28 Year Sentence For Corruption
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 10/10/2013 16:23 -0500
Following his "yearslong scheme to shakedown contractors and reward allies," Kwame Kilpatrick - who served as Detroit Mayor from 2002 to 2008 - was this morning sentenced to 28 years in prison for corruption. Regarded by many as a key contributor to Detroit's eventual downfall, it seems Kilpatrick is somewhat repentant, stating, "the people here are suffering, they're hurting. A great deal of that hurt I accept responsibility for." Agents who pored over bank accounts and credit cards said Kilpatrick spent $840,000 beyond his salary during his time as mayor. Having resigned in 2008 over a sexting scandal, the scale of his corruption, prosecutors added, "exacerbated the crisis."
