Patriot Act Author Calls For Clapper's Prosecution And Rein In NSA Abuses
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 10/12/2013 18:58 -0500
In an interesting twist of irony, one of the Congressman most instrumental in the destruction of civil liberties in these United States due to his authorship of the Patriot Act, Jim Sensenbrenner (R-Wisc.), is now leading the charge to reign in NSA abuses. His disgust with the NSA became clear back in early June when he wrote an impassioned letter to Attorney General Eric Holder criticizing the illegal NSA activity happening behind the scenes. The key point here is that Mr. Sensenbrenner strongly believes that these guys are misinterpreting the legislation he wrote to justify everything they are doing. As such, he and others are proposing legislation to make it crystal clear what is and what is not appropriate surveillance. Not only that, he is also calling for the prosecution of James Clapper the current Director of National Intelligence, who perjured himself in front of Congress earlier this year.

David Stockman, author of The Great Deformation, summarizes the last quarter century thus: What has been growing is the wealth of the rich, the remit of the state, the girth of Wall Street, the debt burden of the people, the prosperity of the beltway and the sway of the three great branches of government - that is, the warfare state, the welfare state and the central bank...
What is flailing is the vast expanse of the Main Street economy where the great majority have experienced stagnant living standards, rising job insecurity, failure to accumulate material savings, rapidly approach old age and the certainty of a Hobbesian future where, inexorably, taxes will rise and social benefits will be cut...
He calls this condition "Sundown in America".
NSA Chief Admits "Only One Or Perhaps Two" Terror Plots Stopped By Spy Program
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 10/05/2013 13:01 -0500
The last few days have been punctuated with fearmongery from Alexander and Clapper over the shutdown's impact on the NSA and the increased threat of terror this generates. However, as the Washington Times reports, things are a little different in reality. Pressed by the Democratic chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee at an oversight hearing, Gen. Keith B. Alexander admitted that the number of terrorist plots foiled by the NSA’s huge database of every phone call made in or to America was only one or perhaps two — far smaller than the 54 originally claimed by the administration.

Air Force Grounds Squadrons Of Fighter Jets, Drones Due To Shut Down
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 10/02/2013 20:28 -0500
Hopefully Great Britain doesn't get the idea of finally reclaiming its rebellious colonies lost over two hundred years ago, because the US certainly is making it easy. As part of the numerous non-essential services shut down in the current government funding crisis, Foreign Policy reports that the Air Force's Air Combat Command (ACC) - home to the service's fighter jets, B-1 bombers and most of its drones and spyplanes -- has grounded squadrons that are not set to deploy abroad after January. "...Only fighters based at Mountain Home flying this fall are the F-15SGs of the Singaporean air force that are permanently stationed there. Interestingly, German and Canadian air force jets are also flying out of the Idaho base on training deployments of their own.
