California Politicians Could Soon Be Forced To Wear Logos Of Top Corporate Donors
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 12/29/2015 17:30 -0500In the next week, a potential ballot measure, submitted to the Office of the Attorney General in October, is expected to receive title and summary for the 2016 election, meaning its advocates will be able to collect signatures in order to secure its official place on the ballot. The proposed law would require legislators and candidates to sport the emblems of groups that donate money to their campaigns.
2016 Is An Easy Year To Predict
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 12/29/2015 09:26 -0500No year is ever easy to predict, if only because if it were, that would take all the fun out of life. But still, predictions for 2016 look quite a bit easier than other years. This is because a whole bunch of irreversible things happened in 2015 that were not recognized for what they are, either intentionally or by ‘accident’. Things that will therefore now be forced to play out in 2016, when denial will no longer be an available option. Simply put, 2016 will be the year when a lot of ‘underlying wealth’ evaporates.
Safe On The Sidelines - 405 Days And Counting
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 12/29/2015 08:46 -0500The S&P 500 closed at 2052 on November 18,2014. That was 405 days ago, and despite the rips and dips in the interim the broad market average has gone nowhere.
"Political Correctness" Is About Control, Not Etiquette
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 12/28/2015 21:15 -0500
To begin, we need to understand that political correctness is not about being nice. It’s not simply a social issue, or a subset of the culture wars. It’s not about politeness, or inclusiveness, or good manners. It’s not about being respectful toward your fellow humans, and it’s not about being sensitive or caring or avoiding hurt feelings and unpleasant slurs. But what exactly is PC? Political correctness is the conscious, designed manipulation of language intended to change the way people speak, write, think, feel, and act, in furtherance of an agenda. PC is best understood as propaganda.
2015 - The Year Of FX Reserve Rundowns (Or Playing The "Fool's Game")
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 12/28/2015 20:40 -05002015 was the year of considerable FX drawdown as desperate EM central banks attempted to rescue themselves from reality. As Barry Eichengreen noted, "Intervening to support an exchange rate that’s fundamentally overvalued is a fool’s game and a no-win situation, akin to a sovereign attempting to sustain an unsustainable debt burden rather than yielding to inevitable restructuring."
Howard Marks Warns "Investor Behavior Has Entered A Zone Of Imprudence"
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 12/28/2015 17:00 -0500"Security prices are not low. I wouldn’t say high, but full. So people are thinking cautiously but they’re acting bullish and they’re behaving in a pro-risk fashion. While investor behavior hasn’t sunk to the depths seen just before the crisis, in many ways I feel it has entered the zone of imprudence... The market is not an accommodating machine. It will not go where you want it to go just because you need it to go there."
Techno-Narcissism - Hard Questions & Ignored Answers
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 12/28/2015 12:55 -0500We are lost in raptures of techno-narcissism. We’re convinced that all the unanticipated consequences of our brief techno-industrial orgy can be solved by… more and better technology! Notice that this narrative is being served up to a society now held hostage to the images on little screens, by skilled people who, more and more, act as though these screens have become the new dwelling place of reality.
New Gun Control Bill Hits Congress: "To Ensure That The Right To Keep And Bear Arms Is NOT Unlimited"
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 12/28/2015 12:15 -0500While Americans anxiously prepared for their Christmas festivities, anti gun proponents in Congress were hard at work drafting a new bill. If passed H.R. 4269 would literally redefine the Second Amendment as evidenced by the bill’s description, which in no uncertain terms clarifies its ultimate goal: “To regulate assault weapons, to ensure that the right to keep and bear arms is not unlimited, and for other purposes.”
The Fed's Academic-Based Theories Are Creating a BRUTAL Economic Reality
Submitted by Phoenix Capital Research on 12/28/2015 11:01 -0500This is what happens when the Fed’s academic-based nonsense collides with economic realities: perversions of capital that lead to massive bubbles and eventually even more massive crises.
Obamacare Is Sucking Up To 10% Of Americans' Incomes
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 12/28/2015 08:50 -0500The latest dilemma facing economists is why "unequivocally good" low oil prices haven't sparked excuberant consumer spending across America. We have discussed the simple (though awkward for the establishment) answer many times - soaring costs for 'shelter' and healthcare have hoovered up every penny saved (and more); and now, a new study proves it- exposing the reality that many Obamacare customers pay more than 10 percent of their incomes toward coverage (and some paying considerably more).
How The Public Get Suckered By "News" Media Ignoring Reality
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 12/27/2015 19:50 -0500The aristocracy’s control over all the mainstream ‘news’ is ironclad - and this includes the political magazines as well as ‘intellectual’ magazines. American ‘news’ media stifle democracy in America; they’re not part of democracy, in America. They’re like poison that’s presented as being ‘medicine’ instead. Suckers don’t just swallow it; they come back for more of that propaganda. A press like this makes it impossible for there to be intelligent, informed, rather than misinformed and/or stupid, voting in national political elections in the United States.
Warmongering Pays - US Foreign Arms Sales Soar 35%
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 12/27/2015 16:55 -0500If ever there was a clearer indication of America's "need for war" it was the latest Durable Goods orders data, which confirmed, absent defense spending, the US economy is in a tail-spin. However, as NYTimes reports, foreign arms sales by the United States jumped by almost $10 billion in 2014, about 35 percent, even as the global weapons market remained flat and competition among suppliers increased, thanks to multibillion-dollar agreements with Qatar, Saudi Arabia and South Korea.
Bank of Montreal Asks If "Oil Prices Could Collapse To $20"; Answers: "Yes"
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 12/27/2015 13:57 -0500Q. Could oil prices collapse to $20?
A. The short answer is ‘yes.’ We believe that crude oil prices could fall further unless global oil production is reduced. We believe that the weakness in crude oil prices reflects a combination of fundamental factors and financial flows. Fundamentally there is simply too much oil... the current supply-demand balance is not sustainable; something has to give.
Lessons From The Late '20s - Why Bubbles Abound
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 12/27/2015 13:25 -0500Market-based Credit is unstable. This remains the fundamental issue – the harsh reality – that no one dares confront. Long-term stability in a Capitalistic system requires sound money and Credit (hopelessly archaic, we admit). Over the years, we've tried to differentiate traditional finance from unfettered “New Age” finance. The former, bank lending-dominated Credit, was generally contained by various mechanisms (including the gold standard, effective currency regimes, bank capital and reserve requirements, etc.). This is in stark contrast to the current-day securities market-based global financial “system” uniquely operating without restraints on either the quantity or quality of Credit created. There’s no precedence for such a globalized monetary fiasco, though there are a number of historical episodes that provide valuable insight.
The Mystery Of Dubai's Vaporized Gold: The Plot Thickens
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 12/27/2015 13:13 -0500Now that the gold-trading company at the nexus of what may have been the world's biggest gold smuggling ring in history has imploded seemingly overnight, vaporizing countless tons of physical gold and unknown amounts of client cash, even more questions remain.
