As someone who was a journalist embedded with all of the branches of the serveice during 2001 to 2004, I couldn't have said it better than you.

@"..draft." immediately followed by an
insurrection which is why there is no
draft "needed".
Memorial Day – Time to Ask Why

.
"..In 1917 we went to war to “make the world safe for democracy.”

95 years later, that world lives in virtual slavery, Americans are beginning to starve, look around you, Africa is still colonized, brutality and deception are the norm.

Please, point to one success, Britain proven a slave of Murdoch and Blair, a cabal of crime, Germany ruled by the Stasi “queen,” France and the rest of Europe in utter collapse, Africa, raped and slaughtered for profit, Asia, the land of sweat shops, Mexico, drugs, murder and human trafficking, a land of fear, very much a part of a continent in collapse.

This is what we fought to give our children. What we forgot to do is teach them right from wrong, who to kill, when to kill and why. We never learned that ourselves.

Next time we are asked to head across the world to steal oil, sell drugs and murder children, we might just head the other direction. Think I am kidding? Ask around."

A draft is the barometer that measures commitment and purpose. Unfortunately, depending on how you look at it, the absence of a draft has made commercially motivated war very easy to execute. Iraq is the textbook example.

WB7: With all due respect, you are wrong about the draft. It's the FED. End the FED and discretionay war will end. If Americans had to pay for their wars with cash up front, war would be infrequent, brief and decisive.

Imperial wars were happening long before the FED existed. That is not the problem. The problem is having a long line of young men and women all wanting to serve their country, but who end up being sent off to fight wars that does quite the opposite.

And right now the USA is not being attacked yet it is embroiled in several wars whilst about to start others. As is the UK.

A draft also polarizes the scum elite.  For instance the BULLSHIT Bush told us that he was not avoiding the draft being in the reserves. Everyone knew back then that those spots were reserved for the rich while the rest of us took our chances in the draft.  And that ASSHOLE had the stones to tell my generation that he wasn't avoiding the draft? FUCK HIM.  I hope he gets colon cancer.

Being a clueless person who has allowed or volunteered himself to become a pawn of a corrupt elitist system where he is commanded to try to butcher other clueless people is not the highest calling of a human being.  I prefer to honor Gandhi on Memorial Day.

A Draft is the barometer that measures commitment and purpose...

WTF???  So I get drafted, I'm committed and have purpose?  Clearly I'm clueless.  Oh, perhaps acceptance of the draft by society measures this?  That's still not right; the govt institutes a draft, who can resist?  Look what happened to Ali and the rest.  They had to flee to Canada.  Now they cannot even do that!

The federal reserve and its lovely fiat paper enables wars of choice.  Remember that much of the so-called wars are just gun-boat diplomacy with little risk of real pain for Nato, USA et al.  So no pain, e-z credit....what more could we ask for???

That barometer is an inverse measurement.

Taking nothing away from those that serve/have served honorably (I have two honorable discharges hanging on my wall)..

The scary thing is that orders are coming from a 100% certified born colonial subject of the British Crown.. the exact type of person that Article II of the Constitution excludes.

None of his orders, decrees or signed laws are constitutional and officers follow those orders in violation of their oath of office.

But then, there is nothing much left of the Constitutional United States of America now, anyway.

religion and nationalism have been the
socio-paste that has made those historic
struggles so profoundly meaningless, imo.
privatising enlistment with the
pay for fighting in "money" has brought
us an opportunity to see the true nature
of this "business" /racket. we see the evolution
of motivation for war, or the de-evolution,
or there is no evolution, it has always been about
stealing and killing with lipstick. now we realize
the beneficiary was never the one that was thought
to be the beneficiary, the victim is always the people
and the cause was always just for money and its
various permutations, just don't tell the kids.

Regarding the Canadian heroin addiction increase, much of that is no doubt due to the abrupt withdrawal of Oxycontin from the market in April, 2012.

Due to the abuse of Oxycontin (crushing the pills so they could be snorted or dissolved and injected, or just chewed and swallowed for an intense fast high rather than swallowing whole so the pill could be allowed to dissolve slowly to provide a lengthy period of pain relief), TPTB decided to switch to a different formulation (OxyNeo) that would turn the pill to gel if it were crushed and dissolved in water.

As one of the articles below describes, as many as 50% of the First Nation residents are estimated to be addicted to Oxycontin.  Yes, they can see their doctors and get new scripts for NeoOxy.  But it is uncertain whether that drug will be covered by Canada's health insurance benefits.  That's unusual in Canada where most drugs are covered, according to a Canadian friend I talked to for reference.

Detox programs are limited in Canada, as is the case pretty much everywhere.

I'm not advocating for drug addiction -- who would? but it seems this situation could have been better handled.

How about Switzerland dipshit?

And no, they did not arrive at their utopian position without military conflict. They arrived there via GOOD governance. AND because of good governance (self governance, an actual republic) they no longer engage in war.

America does not have a military problem fuck nuts. America has a government problem.

Oh, and there is that little Federal Reserve issue as well, but once again that is, just as with the military, a symptom of disease. Not the disease.

The disease is government.

Absent this ruinous form of government of the people, against the people and for the government and those not willing to grow up and leave mommy government, the military issue would be moot.

Blaming the soldiers is akin to blaming LBJ's great grandchildren for the failures of the so called 'great society'.

In doing so you have a point, but then again it is a superficial point that does nothing to cure the disease.

Again, I return to government as the illness.

However, when your time comes, and you are facing the end of your life, you will know that you massively fucked up, and there will be no excuses. In addition, I'm not going to feign respect for people who either have no spark of consciousness, or else are stupid enough to do what they do.

I met your kind when I was back in the states in 2006. These guys got a real kick out of telling war stories about offing "Hajis". It was sickening, but even more sickening was the respect they received by the idiots who'd never gone off to war.

The shit ending that is coming to america, is rightfully deserved. A nation of murderers, theives, sloths, and whores deserves some god awful times. Blame the politicians and bankers all you want. Most americans have become sacks rubbish, and are complicit in the destruction of a great nation.

See, not every person that served in the military tells stories such as this. In fact, the bullshit meter goes off when anyone gets into telling tales of war heroics.  You took several idiots telling war stories as the norm - when it is far from it.

Check all my posts. You'll never see me "bragging" about any war stories, or of killing the enemy. TRUE soliders don't.

Not sure what crawled up your self-righteous ass, but your wish for America to fail is laughable. "Rightfully deserved" - it is now?

You think so? You really don't think most americans don't deserve the government and economy they have now? You don't think that everyone living beyond their means wasn't complicit in the downfall? I don't even know where to start with that subject, so I won't.

You know how the 90% of us know that you have a massive inferiority complex?

Can't say that I have a massive inferiority complex. I'm successful, barely work, have tons of free time, a great family, am fit, have enough cash to retire at the youngish age of 40, have all my hair, am in the best shape of my life. Nah, I really think pretty highly of myself to be honest.

90% of the posters on here are from all around the world - not just the US, so you "insulted" the entire planet.

Kinda doubt it. If there are many posters from outside the states, I'd imagine they'd have had enough exposure to agree with me.

Anyway, I guess in your limited way, you thought you were doing a great service to our country by being a corporate thug. People make mistakes. I've made my share of them. However, if you don't recognize that you were nothing more than a cheap thug, sent to a place you should have never been, then what can I say? If you actually went to these other countries, and took anyones life, and don't feel remorseful about it, or your role in what it was all for, then there is little hope for you, and with a clear conscience I can wholeheartedly say fuck you, and every other rat like you.

Look, I never claimed one way or the other on remorse for killing anyone.

Don't think for one minute there isn't remorse, guilt, or sadness in the killing of others. Unless you are without a soul or a heart. There are men like that. I distanced myself from them.

I neither glorified it, or justified it. The truth is, war is hell.

Whatever way you slice it. No matter what started it, who did so, or reasons for it.

My father returned from WWII, and I knew he saw atrocities - but he never - EVER - spoke about it. Downplayed his role in combat. Only after years past, from his buddies and from news accounts of battles he fought in, was I to ascertain the horrors he saw, witnessed and dealt with.

Decorated, he never wore his medals, and told me as a boy they were medals for "men he knew - the men that did not come home".

I followed his footsteps. Being in the military is not all bad. There is humanity everywhere you look.

As I said, true soldiers never brag, or talk about it. The men I and my fellow soldiers were up against were warriors. We were at the same time fearful, brave, and respectful of their abilities - as I am sure they were of us. Malcontents and people of whom you spoke of were shunned. No bragging, bullshit and "war stories" were tolerated in our platoon. I was lucky that our C.O. and Non-Coms were level headed men.

However, to cast aspersions on everyone in the military is simply wrong.

It stains the good men I knew who fell. On this day of remembrance.

You assume much to much bad in this country, and not enough good. It seems you believe much of what you read as to the US.

Peace to you as well.

Great advice.  He volunteered five times.  Must have been something goin' on there.  But afterwords, second thoughts, reconsiderations, ... uggg ... maybe something else.  Military recruitment is kinda' funny, screen in those interested, attract the motivated, then screen out the non-starters, then you have a pool of volunteers to be submitted to further screening.  One of the "screen-out" events that I saw was for prospective Naval Aviators.  Started out with all of the rah-rah bullshit.  Then turned to crashes, test flights gone bad (wings pulling off of a test plane do not instill confidence)...  Of 50 in the audience, they screened out 5.  Great QC and saved the then .gov millions.

Now, wrt to the video: One teensy-weensy-not quite a quibble.  Here's the FULL oath:

"I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God." (Title 10, US Code; Act of 5 May 1960 replacing the wording first adopted in 1789, with amendment effective 5 October 1962)."

Internet search terms: military oath of office for enlisted.  You can look it up for yourselves

Dang pesky "obey orders" thingie.

Under his scenario, Pearl Harbor would not have qualified as an attack on the Constitution.  But this is a quibble in the face of a great video.

I've had endless squabbles over the oath...

So help me God."

seems cut & dry to me.

dude, your squabbles are wrt the interpretations, and the behaviors of sworn individuals.  I suggest that they are not with the wording.  Do you agree?

otoh, the people sworn are not living up to their oaths.

Part of the attack on the UCMJ wrt the "gay" exemptions.  Used to be "penetration, however slight, shall be sufficient to complete the offense".  That was in the era when rape was rape.
