Nothing new under the sun

Hopefully this will be a harbinger of the Apocalyse.

I get so bored waiting for The Global Economic Collapse. Maybe a good old fashioned pandemic like the Black Death will move things along a bit quicker.

Leaving these things to Central Bankers is sooo slow.

The only thing that is certain is nothing happens when you expect it. That is the lesson of the black swan metaphor and if you look at what the people said about Weimar Germany, they said it felt like disaster would fall every day then the weekend came and they started over.

True enough, WB7

All I want is a front row seat when the fireworks begin and with my luck I'll probably be warming my Dexia Spiderman toilet seat cover when the show starts.

Hopefully I'll still be able to catch CNBC when they declare "Nobody could have seen this coming".

That alone will be worth greeting the face eating zombies that are sure to follow.

I believe the proper phrase is " Nobody could have predicted"

Yes, no one saw it coming. It's our job to deal with that.

if i'm correctly interpreting your post, you're dying to find a great hebrew sports talk guy.  well, you're in luck, my good man!

paul feinbaum

he's sort of a redneck kinda jew, though -- don't know if you were after the east-coast intellectual thing...can't really help you there, not really their baliwick.

nonetheless, feinbaum's the best, jew or gentile.

you're welcome,

janus

the transit is beginning withint the next couple hours, amateur astronmer society of new york is showing it at pier one on west 70th street and the hudson, and there is a viewing set up somewhere on the highline as well.

it will be going on until sunset. the transit will not be over until after sunset which means, you cannot see the whole transit from here. if you want the whole thing, best look for video replays from recordings made in china. or the pacific.-----ironic?

Raining here and people are oblivious anyway.  Yes, ironic.

Took my employees out today, So Calif, with a white sheet of paper and a large magnifying glass to demo the transit.  After ten minutes of staring at the paper I STILL have a fucking spot floating in my eyes.  And am not sure if I saw a dot in the glare of the white paper.

However, the day did seem relatively dim here in the Mojave Desert.  Two days ago it was up to 100, today it was relatively freezing with 35 mph wind and temp around the 50's.  Not related to the transit, I know, but we've had the weirdest weather over the last year.  And I have been here long enough to remember four feet of snow in the winter of '73 and over 125 degrees in the summer the same year.  Have never seen such swings in temperature within days.

(glancing over what I wrote to check for typos, but that fuckn' spot still floats in my eyes)

We'll try again tomorrow to see if we can spot the dot.

Timmay is really into astrology. He thinks the world bank (sic) will move on even if he cheats on his taxes. Now back to Travon Martin and 'Bammers birth certificate, and Mitt "14%" Romney.

You are right about Romney. He is pretty mediocre in comparison to the fabulous wealth accumulated by his successful private equity peers.

Lived it here at the point of interstate commerce and SNL skits re: Romney on CSPAN, who will pay a political price. Then there is the facebook dude and Lagarde with which you have done very well. All respect to William Banzai the 7th.

It is not really a game if you win no matter what. (carried interest)

As far as I can tell. The fish can have as much radiation in them as possible, or prefferably, if they were taxed properly, they would not be concerned about blood diamonds and/or tax code.

If I were to make the request you hate as an artist. It would have something to do with correlating the post Tyler did earlier with the dominos. And the relative number of pages in tax codes of the world!

I read a long ponderous article lamenting that it will not be possible to see this again in our life times. But I look at it differently. How many of you are going to look at the sun today and see this? Let me assure you, not me ;-)

Don't try this at home.

Thanks for making it something more relevant and meaningful than a planet doing what it's been doing for the last 6 billion years, one more time, yawn.

Yeah, don't look at the fucking sun!

Must be we don't have any other news worth hearing.

I looked at it yesterday through binoculars.  If you have crossed polarizers adjusted just right, it works pretty well.

I find it fascinating, really. Think of a three dimensional space and the fact that the earth, Venus and the sun lie in the same plane.  I think it is this year that our solar system aligns in the plane of the galaxy.

Wed, 06/06/2012 - 07:06 | 2498683 Praetor
Praetor's picture

Actually the reason Venusian transits are so rare is that Earth's and Venus' orbits do not lie in the same plane.

PS The solar system is not going to align with the galactic plane.

Umm... you're getting too many dimensions in there, as any three points make a plane. Three points in a line though, now that's something.

Everybody is colored, somehow. Black red white yeller everybody has a color. And whites ain't white either, they're a sorta tan depending on how much sun they gets. Albinos is the only ones ain't colored at all. And them, they're colored pink mostly becuz they blood is red jess like alla rest of us.

Then there's that Fortran woman, she's an albino too cept she's baby blue and not pink. Same difference tho; her blood is indigo and not red.

Color is all about science. It's all Darwin and such. Or something.

In other news, the live NASA feed has a running commentary. You know how those Weather Channel people run out of things to say during a hurricane really, really quickly? Well, other than "don't look directly at the Sun" they don't have much to say other than...

"OMG we're approaching second contact!"

Just wait till the third and fourth contacts, they will swoon.

I discovered that a spotting scope and a piece of white paper on a clipboard produced as good a picture as anything on the web.
