I feel that the FATHER can take a joke... PLUS there are multitudes that have been taught BS straight fom the puplit of many many many "churchs, so whatever it takes to wake them up to the FULL TRUTH. Rock on Wb7, rock on.
I do not characterize myself as religious. However, I went to church most Sundays when I was a kid and I managed to get confirmed. So I was influenced by this man in some important ways.
In my opinion the blasphemies are being committed by the predators upstairs against their fellow man and I was very careful about the image I chose to convey this message, with a taste of satire of course.
Dont worrry about being too scrupulous about saying ''bullshit''. I lived in a Catholic religious community, and 'bullshit' was a favorite word of the woman who founded the place. Thats cause with Jesus you see how good and beautiful (and true for the Thomist theologians in the house) the world can be, and how full of bullshit it actually is. 'Course the woman's Confessor would give her extra penance when she really got ranting....
My wife remarked to me as we were standing among the ruins of ancient Rome a few years back "Those faces carved on the columns 2000 years ago look nothing like the Italians we see on the streets today?"
The monumental sculpture of Ancient Greece and Rome have a preponderance of northern european features that are rare in those areas today.
We have no idea what Christ looked like. We do know that he existed from the contemporary accounts of his enemies.
If you "know" he existed, you have some fascinating reading ahead of you. The "gospels" are late second century fiction, containing not a single eye witness account of an actual human or event.
Start with Paul, writing about 55 CE, who knew nothing, absolutely nothing, of an actual flesh and blood human named Jesus. Bon Voyage.
who thinks its blasphemous? Jesus certainly wouldnt ! he would be proud of that picture if it results in 1 banker getting shit kicked out of him, if AK47s existed in Biblical times the money lenders would have experienced far more than a temporary loss of profits and a few whip lashes!
GO JESUS !
As for Mohammed, Im sure he would have been wise enough to wack a few of the money lenders with his choice of rifle whilst Jesus blasted others using aforementioned weapon. Great minds think alike !
Time to see past our differences and direct all firepower toward the common enemy:
A bit over the top perhaps but points are often best expressed by hyperbole. Give that Christ only act of violence was to cast out the money changers from the temple of God, when he returns he would no doubt commend those who seek to cast the current batch out of the temple of liberty.
It's funny you mention the word hyperbole. Earlier today I was saying all of the events of the past 4 months have rendered that word meaningless. There is no exageration in characterizing the ongoing fraud.
I don't know if it's meaningless but under the current conditions where much of the population is quite literally asleep at the switch, shocking their base sensibilities has become the only way to have any expectation of waking them up before that 2 by 4 of reality smacks them up side the head. I wouldn't worry to much about those who are so offended that they reject the underlying concepts and choose to return to their stupor. They will get what their apathy has earned them, namely the aforementioned 2 by 4.
I don't think it is inappropriate at all. I think it conveys a message and I think that people who really appreciate the story of Christ, would appreciate this. The langauge means nothing. It's street dialect.
Wb7 I truly enjoy and appreciate the great bulk of your offerings but do you think you would be game enough to try something using the Prophet Mohammed in a similar vein?
WB7, don't kid yourself, for those who believe in Him, it is blasphemous. I'd say mainly because you have the Saviour giving the advice (even if it's street language) of (self-) murder. Which is quite against His words and His deeds.
having said that, blasphemy is quite often used in satire, so you are in good company there ;-)
no biblical scholoar, but a lot of what Jesus talke about was debt slavery, the rich vs the poor, the evils of greed, etc. His only violent act was to disrupt the money-changers in the temple.
And he was brought up on bogus charges by the money-men of his era in cohoots with the politicians. Sound familiar?
It may seem that way, but there are lots of people carrying plackards that say that and I don't think they all mean it literally. It has become a street slogan against the banksters.
In any event, you may find me satirically defending separation of church and state but you won't find me attacking religion.
I am a devout and practicing Christian--Lutheran, to be exact--and have been my whole life, and I think it's hilarious. People often forget that Christ was not only true God but also true Man, and as such, He absolutely did have a sense of humor, and that's what these photos are about. And nothing more. This is not remotely blashphemous. I only wish that I had thought of it first!
don't worry, should you get in hell for this, tell them I promised to join you there
I had quite a quandary with myself when the whole cartoon affair with the Prophet of Islam blew up. Since then I see it this way: it is blasphemic as soon as it's not reverent in the eyes of the second-most fervent bigot, it is nevertheless not good, it's even worse to forbid it, but it should be discouraged...
It is easier for a camel to fit thru the eye of a needle then it is for a rich man to get into the kingdom of heaven-Jesus. As for Blasphemy, fuck them, keep it up williambanzai7, you do good work.
Since Christ chased the money changers from the temple it appears that nothing has changed and probably will not change. It appears that Caesar now occupies both sides of the coin as far as bankers are concerned.
Ditto for the American Congress!
Does anyone believe that Congress isn't self-serving and has any interest in actually helping ordinary american citizens?

White Jesus? C'mon, that's as truthful a statement as Jamie Dimon's tirade in congress.
If you try to read to much into it, you are missing the point which is stylistically made "in your face" I would say.

wow, he looks like Jesus himself. Maybe he is?!
I bet Jesus was actually dark-skinned, short, fat and bald. But that image would not appeal to the ladies...
My wife remarked to me as we were standing among the ruins of ancient Rome a few years back "Those faces carved on the columns 2000 years ago look nothing like the Italians we see on the streets today?"

As classic Protestants say, it is 'faith alone' ... not a matter of evidence or history
And faith is a gift
Sola fides.
Many had faith in Uncle Joe Stalin, Pubama, or the Poison Tree Frog.
Faith is far too easy a test (excuse). As my father liked to say "pray to god, but row toward shore."
Neverteless he inspired a lot more people than tall, fair and full haired Romney.
The image is an icon, nothing more.
What is that line about objectivity being in the eye of the beholder?
I think there is a vast difference between believing in something greater than ourselves and believing in a particular religion.
Doesn't look middle Eastern at all.
Persian.
right, a lot more Zappa than "Chris from Coldplay".
+1 bingo! and the look in his eyes is a bit "lost", while the sign should read "Romanes eunt domus" like here http://youtu.be/IIAdHEwiAy8.
That's really blasphemous. There should be no place that kind of filth here.

Those with greed for total power.
I guess that means you're not voting for Romney?

Inappropriate yes but the true basphemy is that Christ has been sidelined throughout this whole crisis by those in power.
why is he on the sideline? he should buy?
Actually, I respectfully disagree.
I don't think it is inappropriate at all. I think it conveys a message and I think that people who really appreciate the story of Christ, would appreciate this. The langauge means nothing. It's street dialect.
He stood with the oppressed.
Didn't care much for money changers either.

No. I think what a truly loving Jesus would say is: "Jump, you fuckers. It's the only way to save your soul!"
Jesus the rebel Jew from Nazareth, would indeed be angry, but his message would be different -
Repent, you who hoard the treasure which is the redemption of the poor ... for tonight your life may be required of you

Jesus said "Give up everything and follow me."
By leaving us all penniless, maybe TPTB are just helping us become better Christians!
that what Blankfein meant by "doing God's work"

Bravo William. As to attacking religion, it's only blasphemy if you say "Allah pooped his nappy" ;)
dems fighting words (?/sarc)
Since Christ chased the money changers from the temple it appears that nothing has changed and probably will not change. It appears that Caesar now occupies both sides of the coin as far as bankers are concerned.
If memory serves correctly, driving the money changers from the Temple was the ONLY violent act that Jesus committed as recorded in the New Testament.
Somehow, I believe the Christ I love would fully appreciate the sentiment expressed by WB7's gifted artistry.
Now, how about a blast from the past (last year, I think).

Still love listening to that song. Maybe I can make it a new ringtone on my phone?
BTW couldn't Jesus just collapse the modern day money changer's temples with a strategic earthquake?
The son of the creator comes.
Or so it is written.
just bought some VXX and TVIX, hope it happens soon!!
