Words of War

Bruce Krasting's picture

I had an interesting conversation with a fellow who lives in Europe and has been connected to the spook world in the past. (See this for prior discussions with him.) It went like this:

Paris

Have you been watching the events in Syria?

BK

Not really. I’m not sure what, if any, are the implications of this is.

Paris

You should. Things are moving faster and faster. For example, have you seen the level of fighting in the streets of Damascus the past few days?

.

.

.

BK

No. It seems there is fighting every day.

Paris

There is now heavy fighting in the capital of Damascus. Clearly, the opposition has grown substantially for this to happen. It also means that the fighters are being armed. They would not take on a battle in the capital unless they were well armed.

BK

Interesting. Where are they getting these arms?

Paris

The same place that the Libyans got theirs, the Qataris and the Saudis.

BK

Ah! How do the Saudis and Qataris get arms into Syria?

Paris

Through Turkey, of course. You don’t think those Turkish jets got shot down by accident do you? This was the excuse for Erdogon (Turkish President) to get involved. Now he is.

BK

Why would Erdogon want to get involved in the Syrian mess?

Paris

He sees himself as a guardian of the Sunni. What we are witnessing is the re-emergence of the Ottoman Empire. What is happening is that Syria is in a civil war, but behind this is a religious war. Sunni versus Shia. The fighting today is in the streets of Syria, but in the end, this is a war between the Saudis and the Iranians.

BK Where's this headed?

Paris

At this point, the USA is sharing any intelligence it has with all “friendly” interested parties, including the Turks, the Israelis, the Qataris and the Saudis. Given that all of these countries are also “leakers” of info, it is a safe bet that the Russians have the same info and are passing it along to the Iranians. It’s an equally safe bet the Iranians are very angry at this. In particular, they are pissed at the Qataris. And that gets us right back to the Straits of Hormuz.

.

.

BK

Are you saying Iran might attack Qatar?

Paris

No, I wouldn’t think so. That would be suicide. The Americans have two aircraft carriers and a full fleet of other ships available to crush any aggression by Iran. But that is the point, all Iran needs do is threaten Qatar, and the price of crude shoots up. With it, would go insurance charges for the ships that ply those waters. A few well-placed mines would do the trick.

BK

Do you think it will play out like that?

Paris

The Iranians truly hate the Saudis, the Saudis hate the Iranians just as much. Today there is a new excuse to hate each other, Syria.

As to the odds, who knows? But I think that the odds are greater for something to happen to escalate what we are seeing today, versus a return to regional stability.

BK

Timing?

Paris

Impossible to say. Keep in mind that Obama and Hilary Clinton have effectively put Israel on a leash as far as Iran’s nukes are concerned until after the American election. The Iranians know this, and they understand that November is not so far away. The US does not have the Israelis tied up regarding matters in Syria.

I don’t see how “they” can put a lid on all of this. There are too many moving parts. Do the Iranians have an interest in stirring up a hornet’s nest before November? Sure they do. It could be a matter of weeks.

.

Note:

Qatar produces (only) 1.3m barrels of crude a day. However, they are the largest producer of liquified natural gas (LNG) in the world. .

.

I thought both Sunni & Shias hated Alawites (Assad's group) as Islamic apostates.

These guys remind me of high school 'mean girls' where alliances shift with the change of weather.

As long as we invite ourselves to blow somebody's shit up, all will be fine.

'Cause that's what we do. Export inflation and explosives.

Take your pick because if you don't take one, you'll get the other.

Amazing that the US blunders into the entire ME without the first clue about the tribal/religious currents underlying this all. Bushie's apparently had never even heard of Sunni versus Shi'a before invading Iraq. There's something like three Koran verses that separate them into camps that absolutely hate each other.

Pardon my abruptness, but if you believe this was all "unknown" then you're the one who is clueless and blundering.

Look at what you just did. You made an excuse for "them" by blaming an entire war on their ignorance.

Meanwhile, they got the war they wanted for the price of "Oops, my bad." The CIA is many things. Ignorant is not one of them.

Yes... that being said, Bush himself was likely clueless about the Sunni-Shia split....

Bush ok'ed the war since he was convinced by the people in the know that Iraq was the last gasp for new ME oil supply and it sure as fuck was going to be priced in dollars if indeed it did exist....

Cheney's finger prints are all over this...

And the rift between the Assembly of God and the Seventh Day Adventists could lead to bloodshed at any time.

You are joking, right? One of the reasons for the Iraq invasion was to shore up the U.S. alliance with Sunni Islam (and the oil fields they control).

It's not the verses, though.  It's hundreds of years of tradition.  The difference in perspectives is not at all just some minor thing.  It's dramatic, and affects all aspects of Islamic life.

The Catholics and Protestants aren't pissed about Luther an his note anymore, either--it's been so long each side just knows the other one's wrong.

The rest.... cos we have loads of the shit and might need it later, maybe? EVERY STEP of this shit is consistent with the re-establishment of the British Empire, but this time with the US as a co-partner. The Anglo-sphere never gives up! We're like the Borg; if we can't fuck you outright, we'll take a little longer and assimilate you.

Don't sit there all complacent, Russia, China, et al. We'll get to you soon enough!

Regarding Syria, check out this article of Charlie Skelton four days ago in the London Guardian:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2012/jul/12/syrian-opposition-do...

This delves into the close ties between the SNC (Syrian National Council) and organizations such as the CFR, etc representing American interests in destabilizing Syria as part of a larger plan to go after Iran. It seems like we are seeing the same sort of propaganda campaign that was used to get us into Iraq. By now you would think that even ordinary ignoramuses would begin to see the pattern.

No, they don't! 99% of the global population are moronically stupid. Of the remainder, 0.899% are benefiting from the system and wouldn't change it if you gave them the control button to the 'Oligarch Destruction Device Mk-7'. 0.99% are running the system in one way or another. And the rest - 0.001 (at best!) are actually in control.

Our only hope comes from the handful that aren't captured by the system. And, I'm sorry to say this, there aren't enough by at least 2 orders of magnitude. This time round, the scumbags are going to win. And if they win the next 20 years, they've won for all time! Technology will ensure it.

UK Guardian ... often slammed by Tyler Durden himself for continuing hoaxes re Euro-zone market pumping ...

Guardian has been called the 'Left Wing of MI6' ... the intelligence agencies' rag for the progressive-leaning (or 'liberal' side in USA-speak) ... fooling lots of people, because decades ago they were a working man's fighting newspaper, the 'Manchester Guardian' ... now sold out to the establishment like much of major media ... i.e., whores

Don't worry.  Some of us actually read it, just as I read all of the many UK Guardian columns prior to the Iraq war that clearly indicated how that fiasco was being built upon a web of lies, half-truths and exaggerations.

Disregarding clearly referenced facts because someone else poisoned the well by claiming politically unacceptable motives of a news source will result in an unbalanced, restricted view of world events.

I remember reading all of that crap. That was back when I still marginally believed the state was run by idiots with good intentions. On one hand, I was like, they can't go to war with Iraq, as it will cause [every political problem regarding "poor statesmanship" since]. On the other hand though, it was obvious that the war would happen, regardless of all of that. My mind was stuck in this trap of cognitive dissonance. Thing was, which was to be believed? Which one really represented reality?

As I watched the opening "Shock and Awe" salvo on CNN, it became obvious that there was no statesmanship, but only mob rule. I stayed up that entire night reevaluating my place within my new perspective, and the future it offered.

I decided right then that I would need to drink daily in order to keep my mind flexible enough to face up to the remainder of the lies without losing my sanity.

A sure bet is that the smoke and mirrors of intelligence, or even the fog of war gives to NO person a complete picture of what's what.

TS, codeword, crypto, and project clearences, or "tickets" as they are known, gives the holder only the need to know a small portion of any operation. Intelligence is compartmentalized for good reason. Even a person on-the-scene in a war only knows the fog of war.

I  learned  ex post facto that the ostensible show runner of any operation may simply be a head fake, a shill, for the real operator.

Ya just can't trust anyone. They may think they know but then ..........

I don't think it will be just the existance of chemical weapons, I think we are going to see a device designed for an air burst go off somewhere within the city of Damascus in the near future.  I am also going to lay money down that it is a persistant nerve agent and that the city becomes a ghost town overnight.  Literally.

As an afterthought, the subsequent report on what happened will indicate that it was an old delivery system that either malfunctioned, or was accidentally set off by the ingnorant.  Then of course we will have the report indicating that there was supposed to be a stock pile of (insert obscene figure here) that has turned up missing.

Cue additional loss of rights world wide in the effort to locate them.

Long before the internet, when the proposal to build a LNG facility directly adjacent to Manhattan was being proposed, Penthouse magazine published an article by a scientist who laid out what would happen if a terrorist seized a LNG tanker and used it as the "blasting cap" for setting off the proposed facility.

Long story short, the only difference between the LNG explosion and a nuclear weapon would be the lack of radiation - the physical devastation would be in a two megaton bomb range.
