I suggest a 30 sec stop maximum and use paint.
paint with a stencil, and you can cut the 30 seconds down to just 3-4 seconds. Hit and run.
Save that $1000 bail for some high-quality, damn-sticky paint instead.
Have someone go in ahead and thoroughly clean the surface (not illegal); then follow up with a hit-and-run, damn-sticky paint job.
Who can recommend a damn-sticky paint?
For those of you who are still solvent (and I can only barely include myself in that group these days,) stickers from a local print shop are way, way, cheaper than you might think. If you don't have skills of your own, I would be willing to bet that WB7 would be honored to allow you to use his image(s)- though it would be a swell idea to ask him directl before you do that.
While it would be ideal to develop a brand, it's not necessary. Very little is necessary beyond the willingness to act, even if the act is ineffective and poorly deployed- I'm not a fan of sidewalk chalk (my kids have dirtied my kitchen floor tracking it in many times) but that is far, far more than most people are doing. As far as I am concerned, the guy in the video is an American hero- maybe a small one, but a hero nonetheless.
For the unemployed wishing to engage in civil disobedience, check the list to pick something which meets your budgetl: www.lasuperiorcourt.org/bail/pdf/misd.pdf
As I will keep posting California = State of Confusion
the cops are like
.
yeah, this isnt about taxes... its about jobs
So cops are a simile?
Freedom.....FUCK YEAH !!!
1st Admendment.....FUCK YEAH !!!!
America.....FUCK YEAH !!!!!
jeez, he was actually making that piece of concrete more asthetically pleasing.
vandalism?
the people acosting him was the vandalism!
We've had artists and musicians spreading the word since the 60's. It's going to take a bit more than that.
There are those of us who are willing to get bloody to prevent our childrens liberties from being destroyed...
"Do you have a permit?"
"Do you have doughnuts?"
Do I have a permit? Yeah, the First Amendment.
Oops, my age is showing.
"Do you have a permit?"
"Do you have an eating disorder?"This is our country.
This is not their country.
Alex Schaefer American Hero
What if I get my four- and six-year old daughters to go do this? Then what would Officer Thug do???
They'd taser your sweet innocent children and take them away from you for child endangerment. Society is ass fucked.
How long would the police and military side AGAINST their countrymen?
Yeah, too long, probably.
Crux of the problem is they don't have any countrymen
What they have is eachother and a steady paycheck for life
He is absolutely right. There will soon be plenty of pissed-off unemployed people willing to be civilly disobedient.
It could have all played out so differently.
"Put your hands in the air SLOWLY, and step away from the chalk." <bang! bang! and one for the camera man, bang! > "He made a move for the chalk! He's down! he's down!".
Headline: "Home grown terror suspect killed in bank seige. Officers acted in self defence."
The thin blue line, all that stands between you and the terrorist elements of society.
Fucking POS bankers commit massive fraud, blow the economy to the Second Great Depression & something we did as kids gets someone in handcuffs.
Fuck society because it is totally fucked.
Bail was set at $1,000 for using fucking sidewalk CHALK.
How much was bail set for Corzine? Oh, that's right...the theif wasn't even arrested.
We should have a "walk into your local branch with cow shit on your shoes" day.
I stomped in a puddle of used diesel motor oil (black as night) and walked into Bank of America the other day after they put in brand new carpet. They can't get the bootprints out, the stain is permanent
I feel pretty good about myself for doing that
Fucking AWESOME!!
That's the sprit!
I wonder which bank employee was tasked with the job of cleaning the carpet? Was it the employee who opens the door? The employee who offers you coffee or water? The employee who tells you which line to stand in? The employee who asks if anyone is making a deposit? The employee who tells you which teller is now available? Nah, they probably just paid a teller overtime to clean it.
And we wonder why banks charge banking fees? WASTE!
fish in safe deposit boxes? circa abbie via "steal this book"
What he should have said is, I'm terribly sorry (you fat, Chase flunky) but your employer has no jurisdiction over public property which is what the sidewalk amounts to.
Clearly the cops in this instance are operating like a low rent goon squad. They have absolutely no justification to conduct a search on this person.
There's no reasonable suspicion and there damn sure isn't probable cause.
I admire the effort but chalking ain't going to get it done.
Chalking ain't gonna get it done.....Right on cobber....yez gotta use exploding chalk.....
I disagree that "Chalking" and "Protest" are all that's left.
"Protest" is where you start. It's a nice way of letting the State know that the people aren't happy. Unrest comes next. After that disorganized violence typically follows. When the people then sense that disorganized violence has enough of a groundswell, what typically follows (historically speaking) is the organized violence of militias.
Alex is a good artist. And he's correct that protest is important. But time and again in history, people need reminding that the social contract is one of *consent*. We do not obey the law because we have to. We do not engage in purely peaceful displays of displeasure because we have to. We do it because the law serves us all equally and therefore we uphold the law.
But when the law doesn't serve us all equally? When the Social Contract is violated? Then the respect for the law must vanish completely and without regret. That's when the time for artistic protest passes and the next phase of instituting change begins.
Protest is by no means "all we have left". But it is a good place to start. Thank you Alex, but personally I'm ready to witness the wheels of history turn once again.
Law and and respect for the law were wonderful features of our society. It's regrettable that the powers-that-be chose to abolish them. To suggest that the people should continue to respect laws that have already been shown to be selective and unequal is of course silly. That respect is unlikely to last past the very near term. Lawfulness was abolished from above, the only question that remains is how long people continue to operate as if it still exists.
I'm not a betting man so I won't guess. But if history is any guide, this flight is about to get very bumpy.
Bravo! Call me when you're ready.
We need more artists and musicians to spread the word...
"in the war of independence.... rock and roll rang sweet as victoreeeey!"
Everyone's an artist (Beuys) - so everyone is asked to spread the word
Absolutely. I love Alex's style, obviously. Great artists are the antennas of society and can literally predict the future without even trying
HEY YOU COPS... arrest the Criminal Bankers and Politicians or get the fuck out of our way and let us do it!
You have been fairly warned and duly notified
You have until December 21st, 2012 to put them all behind bars
These conditions are nonnegotiable as we do not negotiate with terrorists
Love the contrast and juxtaposition: Mega coprporation responsible for massive fraud & crime and right outside the corporate hitsquad arrests someone for... chalk.
Chalk one up for the good guys!
Maybe having chalk on hand is a good thing. We could use it to draw the outlines of the bodies when things really start to get rolling...
Jump you Fuckers!
