Bankster Fraud Has Driven 100 Million Into Poverty, Killing Many

George Washington's picture

Fraud caused the Great Depression and the current financial crisis, and the economy will never recover until fraud is prosecuted.

Fraud is the business model adopted by the giant banks. See this.

The Obama administration has made it official policy not to prosecute fraud.  Indeed, the “watchdogs” in D.C. are so corrupt that they are as easily bribed as a policeman in a third world banana republic.

The mouthpieces in Wall Street and D.C.  pretend that financial  fraud (like Libor) is a “victimless crime“.

But the World Bank notes that the financial crisis  – you know, the one caused by financial fraud – has driven between 64 and  100 million people into destitution.

Some estimate the figure to be much higher. For example, one 2009 study estimated that 140 million people would be driven into poverty in Asia alone.

AP reported in 2009:

The global financial crisis has pushed the ranks of the hungry to a record 1 billion people … United Nations food officials said Friday in Rome.

This is not just a matter of having less money for entertainment or luxury goods.  Increased poverty leads to an earlier death.

As the Los Angeles times notes:

Poverty appears to trump smoking, obesity and education as a health burden, potentially causing a loss of 8.2 years of perfect health.

This is not an abstract concept. A lot of kids will die due to Wall Street fraud:

The global financial crisis sweeping through Wall Street and the European banking sector will touch the lives of the world’s most vulnerable, pushing millions into deeper poverty and leading to the deaths of thousands of children, according to a new United Nations study.

***

The report highlighted the prospect of an increase of between 200,000 and 400,000 in infant mortality and that child malnutrition, already rising, will be one of the main drivers of higher child death rates.

While developing countries will be hardest hit, increased poverty and hunger are hitting the U.S., Britain and other first world countries are as well. The inability of the newly-poor to pay to heat their homes also kills.

Paul Moore – former Head of Risk at HBOS – says that the financial crisis has resulted in the greatest humanitarian crisis since WWII.

Moore says that we are witnessing a “financial holocaust” brought on by the banksters … with huge numbers of potential deaths in the works unless we fundamentally change the system.

Not to like state the obvious, but ISN'T THAT THE WHOLE PLAN? It is not really that deep. They create a problem and "claim" that it was totally out of their control... "no one could have possibly seen it" (yeah, B/S)

They get their desired effect. In this case instability and a culling of the lower classes. Then they run to the rescue as the savior and claim greater power for themselves.

Yawn ... wake me when the sun explodes, or engulfs the earth or we have the polar reversal, or we are attacked by aliens ... etc.

True, and worse, of course, they own the entire media, or what passes for one.

Of all those 6-figure, 7-figure, and 8-figure salary newsies whores, not a single one evidently had the intellectual capacity, or integrity, to ask that clown cretin who called Harry Reid a liar (for stating that Romney is a tax dodger), if he had actually seen Romney's tax returns!

Awhile back, some clown from the New America Foundation wrote a book on ExxonMobil, goes on a book tour, and not a single interviewer (including so-called liberal types like Terry Gross of NPR, and
Amy Goodman) had the wherewithal to inquire:

By any, chance, do you know who effing owns ExxonMobil, Steve????

No, of course not, 'cause nobody owns nuthin' in Amerika!

LAPD beats Deutsche Bank Managing Director to a PULP

A powerful honcho at Deutsche Bank is suing the LAPD and the City of L.A. for millions of dollars — we’re told up to $100 mil — for allegedly being forced into a motel room by cops and then beaten to a pulp.

Brian Mulligan, the Managing Director and Vice Chairman of Media and Telecommunications for the Bank, claims on May 15, he was in the L.A. suburb of Highland Park — near a marijuana dispensary — when he was approached by 2 LAPD officers. We’re told Mulligan claims the cops walked up to him and asked why he was in the area, and then proceeded to search both him and his car. Mulligan says the officers found a large amount of cash in the car — thousands of dollars — and then put him in a police car and drove to a nearby motel.

Bullshit. Home invasions of elderly people and the subsequent raping of elderly women is not "risking your life". Nor are mob attacks on individuals "to survive". Nor are flash robs for candy and blue jeans.

It's called being a violent, stupid, shithead. And for my two cents, I'd rather the perpetrators of these violent crimes for kicks not survive at all.

Seriously, George, you are way out there with this one.  I have no doubt that the monied interests will commit as much fraud as necessary to preserve their favored/preferred position in the order, but to stretch their selfish fraud out to the killing of 100 million people is ludicrous.  Hell, to stretch Mitt Romney's role at Bain Capital into the death of a woman who died nearly 10 years after he left Bain is bad enough, but to say that "banksters" are killing millions because they commit fraud would be laughable if not so sadly stupid.  Moreover, you rely upon absurd numbers from, of all sources, the United Nations (who, ironically, has participated in the direct killing of millions of babies in the womb during its existence).

George, I am all for investigating, indicting, and prosecuting to the fullest extent of the law every stinking banker and financier who participated in any way with any fraud through which others have been harmed.  Their theft is akin to the robber's or the burglar's.  But they are not killing people, and certainly not in the hundreds of millions.  NO AMERICAN or citizen of most industrialized, Western nations would starve or die of diseases because of this fraud.  The taxpayer funded support structures are simply too enormous to allow that to occur.  If they occur it is through either unfortunate ignorance of the system or bureaucratic incompetence.  The safety net in the West is, in short, total.

I heard a Statist on Sirius XM channel 127--THE LEFT--today saying essentially what you are saying but in the context of Obamacare.  He claimed that America's poor will die in the streets in droves if Obamacare is even changed.  Come on.  There is not a single person in this nation that can be refused medical treatment if it is needed.  It may not be treatment at the Mayo Clinic, but it is treatment as good as that which I get at my local doctor.  And don't worry, that person will never have to pay for it if he cannot afford it.  I WILL PAY FOR IT through my taxes.

And Patient Zero.  The bankers have not yet been found guilty.  They really do need to be investigated, indicted, and prosecuted, but in a government in which the Rule of Law means anything, ZH does nto decide anyone's fate--the Rule of Law does.

I guarantee you that anyone in this country can get medical care free of charge.  I see it every day.  If you think otherwise, you have lost touch with reality.  Similarly, those without jobs do not starve.  They enjoy a nearly unlimited safety net of taxpayer money to live on.  This safety net is the reason so many people refuse to even look for work.  Better to take handouts, do some panhandling, not pay taxes, reap the benefits of the public trough, and laugh at those of us who work 12 hours every day.  Get real.

That's it idiot.  Stick to your fantasy even after I linked articles that demonstrate kids die because they can't find a Medicaid dentists to pull a tooth...after numerous posters have informed you that hospitals are not required to treat anyone, just stabilize.

Some people are able to access some free health care outside traditional employer based insurance and Medicaid systems some times.  Free care is not guaranteed nor is it available to everyone.

People are dying because they have lost their jobs, health insurance and can't afford medication.

This report came out after the 2001 recession.  It can only be worse now.

18,000 deaths blamed on lack of insurance

By Steve Sternberg, USA TODAY

WASHINGTON — More than 18,000 adults in the USA die each year because they are uninsured and can't get proper health care, researchers report in a landmark study released Tuesday.

The 193-page report, "Care Without Coverage: Too Little, Too Late," examines the plight of 30 million — one in seven — working-age Americans whose employers don't provide insurance and who don't qualify for government medical care.

About 10 million children lack insurance; elderly Americans are covered by Medicare....

Among the study's findings is a comparison of the uninsured with the insured:

  • Uninsured people with colon or breast cancer face a 50% higher risk of death.
  • Uninsured trauma victims are less likely to be admitted to the hospital, receive the full range of needed services, and are 37% more likely to die of their injuries.
  • About 25% of adult diabetics without insurance for a year or more went without a checkup for two years. That boosts their risk of death, blindness and amputations resulting from poor circulation.

Being uninsured also magnifies the risk of death and disability for chronically sick and mentally ill patients, poor people and minorities, who disproportionately lack access to medical care, the landmark study states.

"The report documents the immense consequence of having 40 million uninsured people out there," says Ray Werntz, a consumer health expert with the Employee Benefit Research Institute. "We need to elevate the problem in the national conscience."

Calculating the cost in human suffering, he says, "is one way to get there."<<<

So, no American dies because of job loss due to banster fraud???  They died by the scores during the last recession.  What makes this one different???

Because you saw some people getting free medical care???

You must be a bankster to be this blind.

Watauga, I don't like corrpt banksters, but I wholeheartedly believe your reasoned approach.  The situation is bad enough and using an imbalanced mindset to correct it will result in greater damage  The corrupt ones must be prosecuted and if found guilty then convicted and made to serve their appropriate sentences. There is a lot of 'emotional fact' being disseminatd these days, the key to solving any problem is to deal with the facts and the facts only.  After someone is conveicted we'll let the jury deal with the emtional part during sentencing.

You clearly have no idea of what you are talking about. My guess is that you are an individual of some means and have never needed or depended on the "total" social safety net of the west you speak of. I can assure you it is far from total and in fact full of holes. You sound like you are in the US, as am I. Try going outside and visiting an area where there are actually real poor prople. Maybe even talk to a few. Based on your comments you are in serious need of a reality check, because I can assure you that there are many people with many needs that are not being met by anyone. Needed medical treatment is being denied to people every day all over this country. Hospitals ARE NOT required to provide treatment. They are required to "attempt" to keep you alive if necessary. In which case they only need to stabilize the patient. NOT TREAT OR CURE THE PROBLEM. Get out and get a clue you elitist worm.

Just to be clear, I think Obamacare should be repealed as well. It is a GIFT to the Health Care Complex and will do nothing to improve the overall heath care situation in this country in the long run.

Re: Obamacare, I know a family doctor who had practiced for about 35 years.  He retired rather than comply with the electronic records rrequirements, etc.  It simply was a cost issue for him.  It made more sense to retire early than invest the money in those systems so he could practice 5-10 more years.  He was a great doctor.  Some HMO groups want to scan your drivers license in order to see the doctor.  Yeah, that is great, a physical scan of youir drivers license on a network that is connected to the Internet.  They also have scans of all your personal health information. SSN, etc.  Like that will never cause problems for people.  Governments do not have a good track record as far as being able to see peoples health care and other personal info.  Nazi Germany was one of the first nations to gather this type of information using the Hollerith Punch Card Machine.  There are certain things that should stay in a paper file in the doctors office accessible only to government with probable cause + a warrant supported by oath or affirmation.  Doctors also end up being part of the control grid, a lot of them will run your credit when you first visit.  This puts you back on the grid even if you don't want to be there and you are a private person.  Your relationship with your doctor and your pharmacist is supposed to be a privledged relationship.

Scanned medical records are also a problem.  You basically end up with a whatever the doctor thinks about you and writes down in your file following you around for the rest of your life.  That could never be abused because of a grudge or misdiagnosis right?!.  Other doctors will give what the doctor wrote down priority rather than listen to what you have to say.  It gives hearsay stuff a higher priority than you sitting there in the doctors office telling them what is wrong with you.  After these records get propagated out to other doctors, hospitals, etc, you end up with multiple copies at offices and it is very hard to correct the record.  Doctors can also be iffy about even letting you examine what they wrote down.  If you need to put a statement in your file to correct the record, it can cause conflict with the doctor..  The very same thing happens with the pharmacy.  If you have a common name, it could cause huge problems.   It could also cause problems with your insuance coverage, privacy problems with all the pharmacy techs knowking what you are prescribed and what conditions you have, judging what the doctor did, bueracrats deciding what treatment you get, using statistics to make really bad decisions for other people, etc..

Re: Reality check, given the fight club theme of ZH, a great thing to do is go to a couple support groups like NA or AA and just listen to an open meeting or speaker meeting.  Do not mess with those people!  Some of them are incredible souls.  Some of them turn their lives around from darkness into something amazing.  I look at it like a caterpillar that cocoons up and is ugly like a worm and then dead for a while and then ends up becoming something beautiful, something unbelievable and you would never know it had an ugly beginning.  You can also find some incredible wisdom about life in strange places.

Another good place is your local homeless shelter.  Just go and sit through an evening sermon and stay for the meal.  Drop them a nice donation while you are there.  Understand that they are keeping those people off the streets and making your neighboorhood safer.  While you are there, ask some of the people to tell you why they are there and how they ended up there.  Most of them are really decent and interesting people.  They just made one or two dumb mistakes or got sick or divorced or etc..  Some of them are so beat down by loosing everything that it is vey hard for them to get back on their feet.  It is unreal how many people show up at the shelters where I live.  They are filled to capacity.  There is no room for error in the current system.  It is very hard to get a job when you don't even have a mailing address.  It is a very important thing to visit a shelter and see the big picture.  If you are really brave and their beds are not all taken, try staying the night at one.  You will gain a whole new perspective on life.

Finally there are thousands of prisoners in jail for victimless crimes.  Many times they are alienated from their families, etc.  Just writing to them or sending them twenty bucks for their commisary can make their entire year.  Knowing there is one other person out there in the world that gives a shit about them.

Why not take care of each other instead of fighting.  It takes about the same amount of effort.  We could either harden our hearts and stiffen our necks to that or we could try loving our neighbor.  I like verse 10 in this part of Isaiah;

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=isaiah%2058&version=KJV

So if everyone picked a day, and made it a 'special' or 'holy' day and then did the things in that verse, the world would be a much different place.

I really think things can get better in America.  A lot better.  Prosperity like we have never known.

Another negative you can't prove. A person goes into a hospital, gets treatment and dies. Hospital says they did everything they could.

Maybe they did, maybe they didn't. Can you prove it? NOPE. And you are incorrect. Hospitals are required to provide treatment. You even contradict yourself and say so. "They are required to "attempt" to keep you alive if necessary."

A fairly good post Watauga and you'll probably get down arrows for those non thinkers who can only chant down with bankers, the 1% and government. It is these same people that have bought into that line that don't realize they have bought into disinformation and bad reporting and articles. Do they not know that even though they are not part of the 1% and the corrupt banking system they hate, that there is always someone lower on the totem pole that thinks you have to much, even though you aren't part of the 1% or a banker or whatever?

Articles like this are garbage because in order to refute them, you have to prove a negative, which we all know you can't do in economics or politics. It's the same as saying that if we didn't do all these stimulus programs by the government, then 100 million more jobs would have been lost.  But hey, if we throw another $32 trillion into the debt pool, we can save 20 million jobs. YOU CAN'T PROVE IT EITHER WAY. It is complete garbage using a feel good message (I'm on your side and we are against blah, blah, blah) and the readers emotions to sway them from logical reasoning. Very devious and what both the demorcrat and republican parties do through the MSM against its citizens.

I love bogus arguments like this.

I discussed this with a liberal making a similar argument that pioneers like Bill Gates and Steve Jobs didn't creat their companies. The thousands of workers did it. The silly socialist idea that the workers create everything. However, these same liberals can't seem to figure out that a single person has to have the vision and leadership to start things off.

I ended the discussion with this:

If it were the workers that do everything from start to finish, why do we have hispanic standing on corners, waiting for the morning truck to pick them up to take them to work? And before it was hispanic, in the last depression, it was other ethnic groups.According to a liberals logic, those 10, 20, 30 or whatever number of hispanic workers, should be creating the greatest next generation companies. But they aren't. Hmmm. Wonder why?

If you can ever get a liberal to figure that out, then maybe you have made some progress in their mental disorder.

The point of the discussion was that a liberal, like you, was arguing that Bill Gates did not build the business, the workers did. So I pose the question, then if that were the case, logic would be that it would be workers standing on the corner that would have come up with the great ideas, the innovation - then maybe they would go hire Bill Gates and then Bill Gates would become the billionaire.

Ha ha, your logic is so laughable.

And before it was hispanic, in the last depression, it was other ethnic groups.According to a liberals logic, those 10, 20, 30 or whatever number of hispanic workers, should be creating the greatest next generation companies. But they aren't. Hmmm. Wonder why?

If you can ever get a liberal to figure that out, then maybe you have made some progress in their mental disorder."

Perhaps your time would be better spent by having a mental health care proffesional attempt to diagnose and treat YOUR mental disorder.

"Racist much? Apparently, to you, all laborers are also ethnic minorities."

Please examine your post and be prepared to be corrected. As you noted, my post was"

Now I dare you to tell me where in that post where I stated minorities? Go ahead, find the word anywhere in my post. I did mention hispanics as an example and did mention ethnic groups, but where did I mention minorities? NO WHERE Dumbass! And by the way, I am of a minority, one of the smallest percentages in the USA. So go F yourself. Every human on this planet is of an ethnic group dumbass. A great number are of mixed ethnic race. So go F yourself for showing that liberals like you are the actual racists. Perhaps that's why you call yourself Toolshed, because you spend all days shoving tools up your ass.

Thanks!  These pathological liars make me puke.

While I'm sure there are plenty of hardworking illegals out there, every day labor job I've been on, the illegals walked off the job (not that I blame them) because it was either too difficult or too dirty).

Your comment would be relavent except no mention of ILLEGALs was used, only hispanics. So you expose yourself as being the racist for assuming they were illegals.

Liberalism, a true mental disorder. No wonder why you puke - you're sick, a sick racist

It was more an observation than a statement Mr Huxley. With that I'll leave you with a quote you may find familiar.

" Cynical realism is the intelligent man's best excuse for doing nothing in an intolerable situation. " AH.

Financial engineering has superseded ballistic engineering because nuclear blasts cannot spare the bankers and their progeny.

You quote the UN and don't mention the FED?  Who exactly is perpetrating fraud here?  Your populist rhetoric is getting tiresome.

Don't the bankers and their corrupt allies in politics normally make nations' people suffer for a long time then start some giant war or something?

look as much as i hate bankers and as much as fraud is obviously the cause of financial destruction which results in deprivation which results in death.

the bankers are not actively killing people unless those people actively try and stop the bankers, and they do that with government and hit squads. you are not going to get any eyeballs accusing bankers of 'killing' everyone.

you get eyeballs by forcing them to kill someone publicly and showing they did a specific murder and put it on a newspaper.

the post you wrote above is not going to win the war of ideas. people already know that when the cost of living goes up, some people are priced out into dying. that's life. it's always been that way. bankers, morther nature, bad decision making, invaders, conqueres, pestilence.all of these things not only kill people, but result in a much higher cost of living for everyone else.

the cost of living is not fair. what can you do.
