U.S. Government Planned Indefinite Detention of Citizens and Other "Post-9/11 Realities" LONG BEFORE 9/11

George Washington's picture

The government's claim that it can indefinitely detain American citizens living on American soil based upon a vague "suspicion" that they might be supporting or affiliated with bad guys is disturbing.

But this is nothing new ...

J. Edgar Hoover, then-actor Ronald Reagan, Earl Warren, and UC Berkeley officials all agreed acted to blacklist professors - McCarthy-style - who they suspected of being radical.

Indeed, as award-winning investigative reporter Seth Rosenfeld explains today, the FBI devised plans to arrest without warrant and then indefinitely detain Berkeley professors and students who were champions of free speech in the event of any national emergency:

>

Japanese-Americans, of course, were interned - or "indefinitely detained" - until the end of WWII. In 1988, Congress passed a bill, subsequently signed by President Reagan, apologizing for the internment, and confessing that the government's actions were based on:

Race prejudice, war hysteria, and a failure of political leadership.

Unfortunately, our leaders seemed to have learned nothing from past mistakes.

Constitutional Challenges Contemplated Long Before 9/11

Congress members and legal scholars tell us that the Constitution has largely been suspended since 9/11.

But the suspension of the Constitution and declaration of martial law in the event that the President declares a "State of National Emergency" - for example, based upon widespread the U.S. people's opposition to a U.S. military invasion abroad - was contemplated by Ronald Reagan's administration in the 1980s.

See this July 5, 1987 report in the Miami Herald.

In Fact, Everything Happening Now Was Foreshadowed Long Before 9/11

These may seem like isolated examples of extreme plans which were ever implemented.

But virtually all of our "post-9/11 reality" was actually planned long before September 11th :

  • The Patriot Act was planned before 9/11 (and see this). Indeed, former Counter Terrorism Czar Richard Clarke told Stanford law professor Lawrence Lessig:

After 9/11 the government drew up the Patriot Act within 20 days and it was passed.

The Patriot Act is huge and I remember someone asking a Justice Department official how did they write such a large statute so quickly, and of course the answer was that it has been sitting in the drawers of the Justice Department for the last 20 years waiting for the event where they would pull it out.

    (4:30 into this video).

  • Militarization of American police forces started 30 years before 9/11
  • Cheney dreamed of giving the White House the powers of a monarch long before 9/11
  • The Afghanistan war was planned before 9/11 (see this and this)
  • In fact, regime change in Iraq, Libya, Syria, Lebanon, Somalia, Sudan and Iran were all planned a decade before 9/11
  • Cheney and Rumsfeld actively generated fake intelligence which exaggerated the threat from an enemy in order to justify huge amounts of military spending long before 9/11. And see this
  • It was known long before 9/11 that torture doesn’t work to produce accurate intelligence … but is an effective way to terrorize people
  • And – sadly – America played dirty games to justify and win wars before 9/11

The Great Forgetting (and Karl Rove)

Gore Vidal, who's recent passing was widely noted, used to refer to America as the United States of Amnesia.

For that reason, it is crucial to review three important events.

Event #1:  Karl Rove's gang railroaded Gov. Don Siegelman to jail --- please sign the petition below as he's about to be unjustly incarcerated for another six to eight years this September.

http://www.change.org/petitions/president-obama-please-restore-justice-and-pardon-my-dad

Event #2:  Speaking of Karl Rove, we should never forget he was behind the stolen presidential election of 2000 --- when Florida's Katherine Harris, colluding with ChoicePoint and that state's republicon party, manipulated voter rolls in Bush's favor.

On ChoicePoint's board of directors at that time were Richard Armitage, conservative intelligence professional who would later be appointed to Bush's administration, along with the author of the USA PATRIOT Act, Viet Dinh.

Since many Americans have difficulty with arithmetic it is important to repeat the fact that it wasn't Ralph Nader who cost Al Gore the election, it was election fraud and a corrupt US Supreme Court.

Thanks to the work of Mark Crispin Miller, Bob Fitrakis and Harvey Wasserman, we know that Rove was also behind the stolen election in 2004.  Please see Craig Unger's article in Vanity Fair and his upcoming book, Boss Rove.

http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/2012/09/karl-rove-gop-craig-unger

(Craig gets only one thing wrong in his book, he subscribes to the cover story about the Bushies seeking vengeance against Ambassador Wilson by outing his wife, CIA supervisor Valerie Plame.  The outing of Plame's NOC identity happened quite some time before, though, the real reason had to do with an intercepted WMD shipment across the Turkish-Iraq border, with the subsequent investigation by Valerie Plame's counter-proliferation division at the CIA, leading towards an office within the Pentagon --- please see what Sibel Edmonds' uncovered, this is what it was all about.)

Event #3:  Speaking of American amnesia and the Great Forgetting, it was recently announced that former ExxonMobil CEO, Lee Raymond, would head the investigation of JP Morgan and those LIBOR rates manipulation.  Of course, the salient question is:  who is the majority owner of ExxonMobil and JPMorgan Chase?

Nobody know . . . . . nobody cares!

Not to mention that Lee Raymond also sits upon the board of directors at JPMorgan Chase.

Yes, America has been significantly dumbed down . . .

"McCarthy-style" ha! Ironically the only person that has been successfully blacklisted was the Senator. The State Depatment was and still is a rats nest of progressives, commies and one worlders. But don't stop using spooky terms with McCarthy(ism) cause it scares the kiddies into compliance. Or an option would be to get educated on the Senate Hearings on Un-American Activity which had little if nothing to do with Hollywood actors or free speech by citizens, (Different hearings by congress) but focused on Government workers in the employ of the Soviet Union mainly at the State Department.

"but, but, but my college professor said" Yea, yea, he said alot of things, so what.

That's a very good book. I'd encourage people interested in that era to read it. It will challenge hazy predispositions about various figures from that era.

To me, the most startling fact was about what a fraud our conception of the dramatic climax of the Army-McCarthy hearings is. In the popular conception, McCarthy reveals in a hearing that one of attorney Joe Welch's own assistants had belonged to an organization that served as a communist party front years ago. Welch goes off in high dudgeon about McCarthy at long last still having no decency and McCarthy is finally put in his place.

Well, not quite. Evans' book includes a copy of the New York Times article from about a week before the hearing which outed Welch's assistant as having been a member of a communist front organization. Yes, the New York Times had revealed in print before the hearing ever took place that the assistant had a shady past. Attorney Joe Welch's famous indignation was completely fake, unless he believed that no one anywhere ever read the new york times in 1954.

Another terrific book covering that era, especially the late 40's is The Anti-Communist Manifestos by John V. Fleming. It focuses on four different strongly anti-communist books of the 40's and what their authors went through including fighting the lame media of their day.

One of the books was being seriously considered as the basis for a big hollywood movie. It's here that Fleming quotes a letter from Dalton Trumbo, yes, that Dalton Trumbo. Trumbo was an excellent screenwriter who was practically canonized by the media and academia in later decades after being blacklisted in hollywood for having been a communist. You see, we should all revere this poor man who was prevented from plying his trade. It's awesomely ironic because Fleming quotes Dalton Trumbo boasting of how he and other politically likeminded folk had been successful in influencing hollywood not to make films of several different books having anti-communist messages. Fleming's index dubs Trumbo the "Blacklisting blacklister".

“Understand this: This administration has a very effective mechanism in place to monitor, in real time, internet posters and postings. This is one group of people who understand how the internet works, and is using their people to compile potential threats. Not Islamic terrorist websites, either. American websites and social networks. We are spying on our own people, not for domestic threats, but for political ones against this administration. it’s called ‘the war room,’” stated this source. “This is different than the campaign war room full of young volunteers hopped up on Red Bull and experienced in video games. This is “eyes only.’”

Notice its always the middle floor removed.  It doesn't work any other way.  Any other floor, whether above or below the center of mass of the building, will result in an incomplete collapse because of the law of conservation of momentum.

My comment about "Not working any other way" was in reference to the Verinage demolition technique George.  That link you posted isn't a Verinage demolition.  Building 7 almost certaintly utilized this method, because it allows for a global collapse without the use of loud and obvious explosives.  The towers possibly used the same technique, although it would have had to have been multiple stages since the end result was a complete collapse despite the fact that the first floor to collapse was roughly 75% of the way up the tower.
