Just check out Obama's new drone
"In The Land Of The Free" it is flown
Nothing will save
"The Home Of The Brave"
Tyrannical forces have grown

The Limerick King

All hail the Banana-In-Chief
The source of our national grief
A slippery fool
A Kleptocrat tool
And Romney provides no relief

The Limerick King

If you are wondering what I am thinking about the entire red and blue clown circus, this piece by Matt Stoller is not a bad place to start:

"But the idea that America is shifting into an authoritarian system is a difficult truth to handle, as it flies in the face of an endlessly marketed notion of progress and deep-seated political rhetoric about American exceptionalism. Political elites are also very good at dishonest excuses. In her convention speech, for instance, Michelle Obama remarked that change is hard, and slower than we might like. Many Democrats point out that Republicans block change at every turn. But this is misleading — in fact, Obama has turned out to be a transformative president, and has in fact solidified a bipartisan consensus in favor of a sweeping political change, for endless bailouts and endless war.  Liberals do not want to recognize that this is his agenda, and that this agenda is designed to turn America into a society where democracy exists only in small rooms of elites. Better to say there hasn’t been enough change, than to recognize the radical change that has occurred.

Making the case that our systems are not what they are marketed as will be difficult. Americans overwhelmingly still, for instance, believe in homeownership as a virtue, despite the obvious bleak future on that front. They still think that paying crushing, predatory and illegitimate mortgage and student debt is the moral thing to do. They will not let go of their illusions without more personal experience in the malevolence of the system, denser organizational networks of dissident elites, and a possible alternative they can support. Liberal Democrats and union officials will not shake their faith in Obama, insisting on lying for him and the Wall Street-friendly Democratic establishment he represents. But these illusions are not sustainable, and neither is the increasingly authoritarian American state. It is a small group who realize this fundamental truth, but every day, more are waking up."

President Obama is the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people. Romney and Ryan would do a much better job running the country, and that’s what everybody needs to know.

stiler's picture

well on those up & downs Obamney, er, Romney, looses. Have fun with the Big dOnut for the next 4.

DaveyJones's picture

if any of these people actually "ran" the country, you'd have a point

stiler's picture

good point. And what about the one over them and the One over him? there are layers of authority.

It doesn't take a genius to figure out which boat is going to crash and burn.

And dutifully reported by the government news network as a "good thing"...on some weird volume based premise over quality..and even at that, the volume isn't there.

Banzai, we are being ruled by complete fucktards...but as long as a "law student" paying 50k a year to be in college is trotted out as a victim because the taxpayer is too cheap or stingy or selfish to pay for her ten dollar a month birth control pills...we will continue to be ruled by fucktards.

Ain't democracy (50) grand? ;-)

i dont get this.... "Americans overwhelmingly still, for instance, believe in homeownership as a virtue"

are you saying it's better to live under a bridge or in an apartement?

williambanzai7's picture

It used to be the be all and end all. And it was warped by the industry fantasy that real estate prices only go up. But now people seem to understand the benefits of renting. Indeed, with the new reality of job insecurity, taking on a mortgage is a much different risk proposition than Americans were traditionally led to believe.

The lay of the land is very different now.

The lay of the land is very different now...

You're correct.  The US allows for anyone to own real estate as long as the taxes are paid.  The US has allowed international financial interests to decimate the backbone of the US economy, the SFR, with impunity.  Furthermore, our clowns in congress have encouraged the REIT pillage and have purchased protection by co opting the judiciary.

The US needs to invest in a complete overhaul of the judiciary in order to re-establish trust in our system.  We get it that the legislative and executive branches are easily co-opted, it's another thing when our faith in the ultimate outcome is compromised.  We need to chase these criminals down and prosecute them for the treasonous and terrorist conduct they're responsible for.  imho.

I caught the tail end of his speech last night and was shocked at how many times our community organizer used the word democracy to describe our nation and the ease in which it was accepted & applauded.

We have miles to go before we sleep.

An email from Michelle...

nmewn --

I know your life is full -- with work, or school, or family -- and yet you still find the time to help out when you can.

You may have a tight budget, but you give what you can afford.

A woman recently told the campaign her family skipped a pizza dinner at their favorite place so that they could make a difference in this election.

That is the commitment that drives this campaign.

If you can support Barack with a donation today, please know it makes a huge difference. If we win, it will be because of what you did at moments like this....

P.S. -- It meant a lot to me to speak with you and everyone else last night. Thank you for everything you do."

The pizza store owner was not amused ;-)

DaveyJones's picture

I'm amazed you can even listen nmewn. I can't do it anymore. It's water torture.

nmewn's picture

Yeah, I could tune it all out...throw my hands in the air and go all blue team/red team sucks and say there really is no a part of the herd at ZH...but, what would you think of me then?...just another conformist...thats not me ;-)

But there is a real difference on a lot of issues.

I think at this point everyone who is sane, realizes the math, yet no one is weighing what they will ask of you to make their math work for just a little while longer. I refuse to compromise on what they will ask of me. I have never compromised on that in the past and I'm definitely not in the mood or have the inclination to compromise on it now.

One might as well ask me to be a slave and enjoy my place, my station, my lot in life. That, for me, will never happen.

funny i got the same note with the following paragraph inserted:

"A woman recently told the campaign her family skipped a mortgage payment to make a donation knowing that we got her back in case the big bad bank tries to foreclose on her family."

After watching both conventions it is hard to feel that we aren't totally screwed here in the U.S.

The two headed hydra of crony capitalism, somehow perceived as separate stallions of virtue on a verdant green, blast their flame and smoke on the parched plains; with those being burned cheering them on.

Geez Banzai, this one picture/editorial cartoon alone could be a stand-alone post, and you throw it into the discussion as a quickie. This stuff should start showing up in more media than ZH - time to get syndicated (sindicated?).

Two heads indeed.

williambanzai7's picture

It's funny how an image from a cheesy old movie suddenly obtains relevance ;-)

DaveyJones's picture

it's the perfect thematic backdrop. This whole thing feels like a bad sci-fi film with really bad acting and  special effects that don't work.
