Presidential Myths, Lies and Campaign Promises Along With Retail Cos. We Look To Short

Reggie Middleton's picture

The presidential elections are coming up again. The last 4 years went by very quickly, and as always, we are confronted with BS blown all over the mainstream media. This time (like last time) the focus is on the POTUS and the economy. I fear many lay persons and even some who should know better fail to realize that the president has very little willful control over the economy - at least to the upside. Now, it is possible for a president to wreck the economy. For instance, we had one not too long ago who took it upon himself to start several concurrent wars while cutting taxes at the apex of a cyclical economic peak (aka, bubble about to burst), but that rarely occurs, right?

Generally, the POTUS is either blamed or glorified for things that are largely out of his control. Prominent examples have been:

  • Reagan, whose policies actually sucked but rode a cyclical bull to acclaim...
  • Clinton, whose policies sucked less, but still rode a cyclical bull to acclaim.
  • Carter, the poor bastard... Wrong place at the wrong stagflationary time.
  • And last but not least, Obama - there was no way in hell anyone, regardless of who it was other than the almighty God/Buddha/Allah [fill in the blank] himself could have extricated the country from the mess that Bush contributed to.

To be fair, although I would like to say he made the mess, in all actuality he (as in George Bush Jr.) simply was in office when the bubble burst. His greatest crime (other than being the worst president this country has ever seen - and despite the fact that he was re-elected [or re-appointed if you followed that whole hanging chad thing]) was that he exacerbated the effects of the downfall by squandering our resource cushion in unnecessary wars and tax breaks and failed to invest in the entrepreneurial spirit of American small and medium sized businesses, where ALL of the big business (his constituency) actually came from.

As an aside, see How Inferior American Education Caused The Credit/Real Estate/Sovereign Debt Bubbles and Why It's Preventing True Recovery for my views on education in America. This video tells a tale as well. Please take note of the comments in the video - here's a tell tale burb, "I'm sure Reggie is well aware why this video only has 3667 views, when it should easily be in the millions...........sad.........sad...sad...sad.....pray for your children"..

My highly entrepreneurial and uber-cognitive 11 year old son (my older son is and artistic genius wrapped around a true scientist and my young daughter is a legitimate powerhouse and leader - yes, all three of my children are special and yes I am biased :-)) asked me to sit in on his homework assignment of critiquing the presidential candidate speeches. I explained to my boy that a tertiary (if not primary) labor of the POTUS is to pump BS to the masses. Jobs... Schmobs... As clearly articulated in BS At The BLS Leads To Profitable Short Opportunities As Hopium Smokers Get High Off Of Depreciated Dime Bags Of Manipulated Euphoria! Following up on the premise of that article is our next release in the follow of overpriced and over valued retailers. Now, back to the original premise - Guess what my 11 year old uncovered in the process...

Ok, I'll bite. What's the case for Lincoln being the worst?

RACISM.  Fucker freed the slaves.

If Lincoln had not done what he did there would be no USA now.  He by the way was a moderate on the subject of slavery and civil war, it was only after the South took Ft. Sumpter that Lincoln fired on the CSA, losers from the start and cowards as well.  As usual those who start wars with the USA are morons who should have known they could not win, even if the USA eventually gets bored and walks away like in Vietnam, some think Vietnam won, but after 20 years of war there was not a lot to claim victory over, if that is scored as a win I plan never to win a war against the US.

Imagine that Lincoln is a nail.  Everyone posting a reply to you is striking that nail right on the head.  A thousand more could do the same thing.  Hell, 600,000 more (representing the deaths his war caused) could do the same thing.  Lincoln's War was the true Second American Revolution.  Through it, he destroyed a sovereign confederation made up of sovereign states.  His minions slaughtered women and children at will.  They raped and pillaged and razed whole cities.  He beat down his enemies (those who loved liberty) so effectively through "total war" that they would never rise up again against Lincoln's Leviathan State.  Lincoln changed the united sovereign states of America into the all-powerful, all-consuming monster that it is today.  Lincoln was, to some extent, the tool of the Northeastern monied interests, but he also believed in his and their vision.  To achieve the vision he and they had to destroy the South, the hotbed of liberty (yes, yes, of course, I understand that some few propertied interests in the South owned slaves, a condition that was, even in 1861, rather rapidly withering away into the dustbin of history) in the West.  Lincoln represents all that is evil in man, and all that is evil in the State.  All other Presidents pale in comparison, though FDR, WW, LBJ, and Obama all did their level best to rise to his pinnacle of evil.

He expanded executive power more than probably any other president. He started a civil war over losing a huge tax revenue base (not slavery-not directly). He used rapid inflation to finance the war. I know there's other stuff, just going off the top of my head.

He was the greatest vampire killer ever though

Let's not forget the gutting of State's Rights. I once heard it said thusly - "He changed the name of the country from 'These United States of America' to 'THE United States of America'."

If states claim the right to make persons PROPERTY then they have no morality and no rights.  States have the right to dictate the hours of operation at their DMV and to pick out the right shade of yellow for road stripes, other than that they have a miserable record of assuring individual rights, particularly to minorities.

Rights are rights and they are the SAME in every state, otherwise they are not rights but more like your driving PRIVELIGE, revocable by the state for a synthetic and sometimes arbitrary set of reasons.  Rights are something you are born with and cannot be taken away by any state.  The fact that they do is the true test of whether or not the citizens have the energy or the courage to stand up to bullies, and every state, every government, every religion is a bully, you keep hoping as long as their attention is on that skinny kid they will leave you alone and often you get lucky, after a while those that avoided the attentions of the bully start to believe that the picked on actually deserved it for some reason so when they appeal to you for help you walk the other way.  Or maybe you agree with the bully because you don't happen to like that skinny kid.

Well there are a lot of bullies in America and they are making life hell for millions of skinny kids that just want to live their lives like anyone else, have a right to.

First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew.

Remember those words.

By the way, speaking of bullies, here is the kind of guy running for president that most of you will vote for;

Mitt Romney returned from a three-week spring break in 1965 to resume his studies as a high school senior at the prestigious Cranbrook School. Back on the handsome campus, studded with Tudor brick buildings and manicured fields, he spotted something he thought did not belong at a school where the boys wore ties and carried briefcases. John Lauber, a soft-spoken new student one year behind Romney, was perpetually teased for his nonconformity and presumed homosexuality. Now he was walking around the all-boys school with bleached-blond hair that draped over one eye, and Romney wasn’t having it.

“He can’t look like that. That’s wrong. Just look at him!” an incensed Romney told Matthew Friedemann, his close friend in the Stevens Hall dorm, according to Friedemann’s recollection. Mitt, the teenage son of Michigan Gov. George Romney, kept complaining about Lauber’s look, Friedemann recalled.

Ever since Eisenhower people have been saying that the next President couldn't be any worse than the current President.  They've been wrong every time.

Not EVERY time SOZ, Kennedy was not worse than Ike (presidential order 11110), and Ford was not a good president to be sure but he was not AS bad as Nixon.  And aside from some philandering Clinton was vastly better than GHW BushCo who in turn was better than Ronnie.  None of them are perfect, but the two worst presidents in US history, the most destructive to the fabric of life, economically, and the tearing down of individual rights and destruction of the middle class, have been Raygun and BushCo Jr. they simply have no competition.

Well, I would have to say that, while Reagan made mistakes, especially in the Second Term, he was most definitely NOT worse than Carter.  Another four years of Carter and we may never have gotten out of our misery.

"A great industrial nation is controlled by its system of credit. Our system of credit is privately concentrated. The growth of the nation, therefore, and all our activities are in the hands of a few men who, even if their action be honest and intended for the public interest, are necessarily concentrated upon the great undertakings in which their own money is involved and who necessarily, by very reason of their own limitations, chill and check and destroy genuine economic freedom." Wilson.
