Everyone is firmly of the opinion that the world as we know it will come to an end sometime during the next US Presidential term. Nothing anyone can do about that, it's been 30 years in the making. Baked into the cake, as they say. The gambit from the Right seems to have been to give Obama another term and let the house fall apart under his "leadership" (excuse me while I now laugh myself stupid ... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAhahahahahHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!snerkHAHAHAHAHA! ... okay I'm better now ... sorry for the interruption) so that the Democraps end up being painted with the "they were at the helm when the USS Economy went aground" tar-n-feathers-for-a-generation brush.
Like I said, it was a strategic move, one of those high-level things supposed to pay off down the road. They put Romney out there as a bit of window dressing for their rich supporters, See here we've selected one of your own to lead the corporate State, aren't you pleased? when in reality they expect him to hand the election to Obama.
I'll tell you why I think this will be seen as a mistake.
The entire business class in America -- Wall Street and Main Street both -- stands upon the threshhold of destruction. The coming backlash against the real and perceived lawlessness of Wall Street will be so virulent -- so utterly merciless and void of logic -- that innocent Main Street will be swept up in the destruction. Afterwards not a shread of the former oligarchy will be allowed to endure the light of day. They may operate from the shadows like a vestigial organ, but the Wall Street infants and parasites will not walk openly under the light of day for three generations of men.
And the Repugnicans will be recalled for 100 years as the party that went out with a loonie crony vulture capitalist on the very eve of a violent societal upheaval, and they will not be forgiven for it. Ever.
This is an end-game. That is my constant refrain and the logic for my statements made here. The Repugnicans played a strategic move during a tactical end-game. This was a grave and fatal mistake, proof that they are seriously out of touch. And they are going to be annihilated for it.
The Democraps are not better for having avoided this fate. However, by luck or uncommon vision, they just happen to have fielded a candidate in Obama who does not continually and publicly flaunt his connections to Wall Street. And the party did so when it was tactically prudent. So they win this one. Except history will record that they won everything.
I don't know what comes after Obama. Part of me shudders to go that far. Because I see no light past these curtains and in fact nothing may come after Obama. And if that is true then the Repugnicans really do deserve scorn if only for not having had the courage to field a real candidate with a real platform for challenging the status quo, and in so doing provided Americans with a chance to turn away from the dark abyss into which we must now plunge ourselves, our children and our communities.
The moment slips away. Then the moment is gone. These moments come but once and then the sweep of history moves us to where we must go -- willing or no -- being a place were we will regret not having taken a different road.
Unfortunately, as most of us will agree, the whole pack of shit flies lives of the turd we know as Wall Street.
Someone sent me an email that he was recently invited to an informal party attended by well to do Wall Street types. He confirmed to me that they are all living in a complete state of denial.
The fact is they are still making out like bandits. What has happened this past four years was a Wall Street stick up and both parties were co-conspirators in an elaborate good cop bad cop political scenario.
