On June 27, 2012, the FBI partially declassified and released seven additional pages from a 1985–2002 investigation into how a network of front companies connected to the Israeli Ministry of Defense illegally smuggled nuclear triggers out of the U.S. The newly released FBI files detail how Richard Kelly Smyth — who was convicted of running a U.S. front company — met with Benjamin Netanyahu in Israel during the smuggling operation. At that time, Netanyahu worked at the Israeli node of the smuggling network, Heli Trading Company. Netanyahu, who currently serves as Israel’s prime minister, recently issued a gag order that the smuggling network’s unindicted ringleader refrain from discussing “Project Pinto.”

Nuttyyahoo a smuggler? Not in your life. Why, he is one of the chosen ones. Why didn't he get major time in jail. After all Edwin P Wilson got 22 years for taking 20 tons of C4 to Libya and the Israeli didn't like that so they trumped up charges and Mr Ed spent 22 years in prison. And the charges were fraudulent. So what does a man get for taking Atomic triggers to Israel?? Nuttyyahoo needs to be in jail for a long time. Do you think that the only thing that they smuggled was nuclear triggers? Are you kidding?

I am a student of history-on my own as the "history" now being taught in schools is nonsense. Look at America First and the other isolationists that left us totally unprepared for WWII. Weakness breeds attack and, if you are strong enough, countries leave you alone. Muslims want us and our culture destroyed-it's a basis of their "religion".

No, I did not serve-a broken back in my senior year took away my Academy appointment. However, my daughter served 6 yearsin the NAvy and did two combat tours of the Gulf.

if America had been true to its Founders’ non-interventionist foreign policy and had refused to enter World War I there would have been a negotiated treaty in 1917 and no harsh Versailles Treaty forced on Germany. Without the harsh Versailles Treaty, Hitler and Nazism would not have come to power. If the war had ended in the early part of 1917, there would have been no successful Russian Revolution and no successful birth of Communism. In short, there would have been no World War II. Admittedly, both of these arguments by the interventionists and the non-interventionists are counter-factual arguments. However, you can call as your primary expert witness in support of American non-interventionism none other that Winston Churchill. He made a statement to William Griffen, editor of the New York Enquirer in August of 1936 and it was reported by Mr. Griffen as follows:

America should have minded her own business and stayed out of the World War. If you hadn’t entered the war the Allies would have made peace with Germany in the Spring of 1917. Had we made peace then there would have been no collapse in Russia followed by Communism, no breakdown in Italy followed by Fascism, and Germany would not have signed the Versailles Treaty, which has enthroned Nazism in Germany. If America had stayed out of the war, all these ‘isms’ wouldn’t to-day be sweeping the continent of Europe and breaking down parliamentary government, and if England had made peace early in 1917, it would have saved over one million British, French, American, and other lives.

(See Military History of the Western World by J.F.C. Fuller, vol. III, p. 271, paperback edition published by Da Capo Press. Fuller is one of the world’s foremost military historians.)

The above quotation has been hidden from the general public, as you might expect, because a few years later Winston Churchill was conspiring with Franklin Roosevelt secretly to get America back into the European War which began in 1939. This 1936 statement by Churchill would have been very damaging to their plans. It should also be remembered that Churchill was one of the persons who acted secretly to get America into World War I with the sinking of the Lusitania.

For centuries European politicians had been concerned with the "balance of power" to keep one country from becoming a hegemonic power. The stalemate reached during World War I in early 1917 showed that this "balance of power" had kept the competing nations from having a victor in the war which would have resulted in a negotiated peace treaty if America had not entered the war. Instead, America’s entry into the war destroyed this "balance of power" completely and allowed America and its allies to force a very unfair and harsh Versailles Treaty on Germany. I believe that World War I and World War II were really one war with a twenty year recess and it was the harsh and unfair Versailles Treaty which allowed Hitler to come to power which then led directly to renewal of the war in 1939 in Poland when the League of Nations failed to revise the treaty, which it had the specific authority to do. Many people rightly condemned the League of Nations for its failure to revise the treaty. This failure of peaceful revision led directly to Hitler’s revision by force and to World War II.

If you are a so called "student of history" you would appear to be a first year student.  It's too bad that you did not get to serve because perhaps had you been shipped of to some foriegn land and actually saw action you might not be so hawkish.  Just remember, all of this defense spending, much less another foreign engagement, could leave an even bigger shortfall for funding of social security and medicare benefits even sooner than expected.

And Japan would have stayed out of WWII if FDR hadn't kept provoking them.  Japan simply wanted the right to do what the US was already doing.  Pursuing imperial goals in the Far East for the benefit of the nation’s industrialists and military.

By the way, if you're a "student of history", you know we weren't unprepared for war.  We ignored indications of a possible attack.  Wonder why we did that?

Unfortnately they are now controlled by a bunch of fanatic muslims who hate the world and consider it their mission in life (or death) to destroy anyone who is not with them.

There is no point of negotiations with this sect...they only understand when they are overpowered....

Maybe the US would hate Iran if after we elected  a democratic president in the states and all of a sudden he is deposed and the Shah of the US comes and and starts arresting Republicans and putting them in jail, torturing them and having the Stasi go after their children and wives. People have long memories. Iran was very pro America before we did that to them. We destroyed them. The reason? You can control one dictator but you can not control a democracy. Ask the other countries around the world that we have done that too. Do you think for a second that the fundamentalist Christians and Zionists in Israel are any different in their attitude to towards Iran. They don't have a clue. Why do you think all of a sudden they turned against us?  Read your own damn history for you know not what you speak. The State dept and the CIA work for Corporate America dude. And by the way, your dad was right.

Most of the people of Iran are educated and dislike the government.  They want simple freedoms, like the ability to crticize the government without going to jail.  Their issue with the US is that in 1959 the US gubmint could have supported the fledgling democratic movement instead of the Shah.  The dictatorship paved the way for the extremists to take power.  The people of Iran would rather have a democratic government but all attempts have been brutally suppressed, first by the Shah and then by the radical muslims.

I remember drilling for nuclear attacks when I was a kid. Sirens going off, running to the school basement or hiding under desks. I also remember the Cuban missile crisis and how I was scared shitless because all the adults were scared shitless.

You think Israelis are the only ones with this concern? What about the Koreans and Japanese? Don't try and convince me the North Koreans are paragons of nuclear sanity.

Israel will have to do better than Netanyahus bomb drawings to convince the rest of the world that it's time for WWIII.

I remember the Cuban Missile Chrisis for the same reasons.

I was 7 at the time and didn't really know what was going on, but the fear in most of the adults around me was obvious.

Maybe the fact that I lived about a mile from a very large US/RAF base in England at the time had something to do with it.

Even though Britain has nukes, retaliation hardly helps if you've just been vapourised.

A good movie to watch if you want to get a feel for the idea of nuclear war is 'Threads' - the effects are a bit dated, but the story holds up. Filmed mostly in Sheffield, where I happened to be living when it was first released. Gave it a kind of special intimacy.

One nuke makes Chernobyl or Fukushima look like a smelly fart, by comparison.

Nuclear war = end of humanity, WHOEVER STARTS IT!

When Threads came out the Times ran a review. I always remember a comment from one NHS Consultant pointing out that the casualty number from A SINGLE nuclear device (about 150kt - pretty "small to average" yield) detonated over a major UK City would exceed the ENTIRE NHS bed capacity. (and that was well before the Thatcherite / Conservative hospital closure programmes began).

When the US dropped "The Bomb" on Hiroshima and Nagasaki there was zero retaliatory-in-kind capacity. Nowadays there are plenty of Countries with a nuclear capability (Russia, France, UK, China, Pakistan, India, and of course Israel - 270 warheads at instant readiness).

From missilethreat.com and globalsecurity.org, we have the following rather chilling figures (which by their own admission are probably an underestimate of what's really "immediately available for use")

America: 1379 launchers (2478 warheads)

Russia: 1268 launchers (2430 warheads)

France: 98 Launchers (300 warheads)

UK:  180 launchers (275 warheads)

China:  138 launchers (178 warheads)

Israel: 70 launchers (270 warheads)

Pakistan: 70 launchers (90 warheads)

India: 50 launchers (60 warheads)

Which all adds up to 6081 warheads, of which 3603 are NOT under direct US control . . . . .

Still think ANY Country can "Win" a Nuclear War?? If the answer is "yes", I think most of the sane elements of Humanity would prefer you to relocate to another planet, preferably one in a galaxy "far, far away".
