White House Manipulating the Jobs Data? Unpossible...
ABC is reporting that the White House has told defense contractors to not issue layoff notices until after the election. They even went as far as to offer to pay for any legal fees associated with not giving employees proper notice - pardon, you will pay for any legal fees associated with the administration keeping the unemployment rate artificially low.
Two things:
1. Why aren't we hearing more about this from the mainstream media (rhetorical)?
2. Still think the jobs report yesterday was real?
We don't think so

Strange plane crash of Michael Connell, top Republican IT man,
"A top Republican internet strategist who was set to testify in a case alleging election tampering in 2004 in Ohio has died in a plane crash. Michael Connell was the chief IT consultant to Karl Rove and created websites for the Bush and McCain electoral campaigns."
I'm sure the republicans went out and registered twice the number of blacks that actually live in cuyahoga county Ohio and every one of them actually cast a ballot for Obama.

If you put 100 KKK outside every ghetto polling location every black vote would still be counted twice.
Go ask some blacks on the street if they voted in the last election. They will say yes. Then ask if they actually went to cast a ballot. Most of them will say no. When you ask how they could vote if they didn't cast a ballot, they'll tell you their church or the service did it for them.

REAL unemployment has been at or above 20% since the meltdown. We've been at Great Depression levels - courtesy BUSH by the way - and the only reason we don't have people selling apples on corners is extended unemployment, food stamps and the rest of the safety net eneacted since 1932.
Obama has played the same old game instead of coming in and levelling with the public - saying just how bad things really were, holding people accountable. Instead he continued the charade (started with the bailouts under BUSH) bailing out the banks and Wall Street. They've taken all that free and cheap money and played in the casino, driving up prices (inflation is another vastly UNDEZRSTATED number). Face it - OPbama left the same people running things in Treasury and the Fed - no real change from W's guys.
MOPE - management of PERSPECTIVE Economics worked for a little after the oil shock in the 70's - Government understted inflation and conned the electorate for a while but people caught on. NOBODY believes a CPI when you exclude food and energy , when you have ridiculous 'substitutions' and more. Understate infalation and GDP looks better (accounting for all the 'growth' claimed under Bush).

The problem with the "conspiracy theory that the BLS is manipulating numbers is that the same beaurocrats in there now were in there under republican administrations.
What I think is occurring is simply that the BLS is over optimistic and massaging numbers to have the best possible spin no matter what party is in office. It is gone on for so long that they now have mathematical models designed to give them a positive bias instead of reality. Just the existence of the birth/death model is the best example.
So in theory things could have actually been better under Bush and worse under Obama and no one would be the wiser, would they?
Here's a suggestion. Look at the year over year growth rates in NFP for each 12 month period ending with the most recent month. Notice anything peculiar? Graph this against the GDP growth rates if you like.
So in a decelerating economy, we are now adding jobs at a faster rate?

I used to work with a guy who previously worked in the Census Bureau during Bush II. He told us about a meeting where they are giving presentations. They included findings like Hispanics have poverty rates increasing faster than whites.
He said a political appointee told them to reverse the findings.
He said he started looking for another job the next day.
