More than a Dozen Nuclear Plants Near Hurricane Sandy’s Path Brace for Impact

George Washington's picture

Bloomberg reports:

“Because of the size of [Hurricane Sandy], we could see an impact to coastal and inland plants,” Neil Sheehan, a spokesman based in Philadelphia for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, said by phone today. “We will station inspectors at the sites if we know they could be directly impacted.”

The NRC met earlier today to discuss the necessary precautions to take for the storm, Sheehan said. Plants must begin to shut if wind speeds exceed certain limits, he said.

As of 2 p.m. New York time, Sandy had winds of 75 miles (121 kilometers) per hour, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami. It was about 430 miles south-southeast of Charleston, South Carolina, moving north at 7 mph.

The current Hurricane Center track calls for the system to come ashore just south of Delaware Bay on Oct. 30.

Reuters provides a list:

The following lists the nuclear reactors and utilities in Sandy’s potential path.

Plant More than a Dozen Nuclear Plants Near Hurricane Sandys Path Brace for Impact

While we don’t foresee any problems, the risk of nuclear accident in the U.S. is actually much greater than it was in Japan before Fukushima.

For example, fuel pools in the United States store an average of ten times more radioactive fuel than stored at Fukushima, and have virtually no safety features.

Let’s review the list and look at examples of problems experienced by the nuclear plants in Hurricane Sandy’s path:

  • Salem has been riddled with problems with security, turbines problems and  other issues.
  • Hope Creek has suffered security problems, has the same design as the Fukushima Daiichi Unit 1, has “some of the same issues with above-ground storage of spent fuel rods as Fukushima” and “was designed to withstand certain major weather events but we need to look at the potential impacts of more extreme events, especially … sea level rise and flooding”
  • Limerick has suffered electrical and other issues
  • Oyster Creek has been plagued with electrical and other problems
  • Millstone’s vulnerability is shown by the fact that it was shut down due to warm seawater

It’s not surprising that there have been problems at all of these nuclear plants. After all, the U.S. has 23 reactors which are virtually identical to Fukushima. The archaic uranium reactor designs developed more than 40 years ago are only good for making bombs.

Most American nuclear reactors are old. They are aging poorly, and are in very real danger of melting down. And yet the NRC is relaxing safety standards at the old plants. And see this.

Indeed, while many of the plants are already past the service life that the engineers built them for, the NRC is considering extending licenses another 80 years, which former chairman of the Tennessee Valley Authority and now senior adviser with Friends of the Earth’s nuclear campaign David Freeman calls “committing suicide”.

Reality is a bitch, nmewn. Weather modification by governments has been a weapon for well over half a century. It's acknowledged by the UN. US Secretary of Defense Cohen spoke about it, what--fifteen? years ago?

Pretending it isn't real or calling it crazy is the behavior of someone who is flatly denying reality:

Didn't overlook it, answered it on the thread immediately. Did you not go back and look?

I said no such thing about whatever your first sentence says, but straw men are Linus blankets for desperate men.

You should see the AJ link I just put up. Then you could pretend to understand instead of name-calling.

Never believe anything a 911 truth denier says. One lie leads to many lies. It's a sad but predictable pattern.

There's you basic cult behavior right there. You leave no room for those who are honestly unconvinced by your arguments. To you such people are part of a grand conspiracy of lies.

No, such people are not necessarily "part of a grand conspiracy of lies" or whatever, but straw men abound.

Some people find lies comfortable. I prefer the truth.

"Honestly uncovinced by (my) arguments?" First, they are not mine. Many others echo the truth. None of my assertions about 911 are my own, original ideas. Not one.

Second, if someone believes that a building can fall into its own foundation at freefall speed without a controlled demolition, that person's credibility should be called into question. There's nothing "cultlike" about calling people out for total bullshit. It's liberating.

Truth is often important. When we consider 911 as a historical event, truth is of paramount importance.

You said: "Never believe anything a 911 truth denier says. One lie leads to many lies. It's a sad but predictable pattern." That's not a straw man. It's right there in black and white. You engage in over the top rhetoric without even realizing it. That is also part of the cult mentality.

Ha. If you really want to learn about "cult mentality," you should check out the AJ interview I post above. We've established elsewhere that it's something that you don't understand. Learn something about how it works before calling someone who's fighting it a participant.

Studying how paradigms work might help you, too. When one employs a false paradigm and is bent on supporting it, one lie inevitably leads to another. Ever read Kuhn?

I'm not interested in obtaining a degree in "truther" theology. 9/11 simply isn't that big a deal unless you accept the neocon's meme that "9/11 changed everything." I don't. It's almost as if you are surprised that governments often kill their own people either through action or inaction. What is the point of being obsessed with any one event and what must inevitably be a subjective assessment of that event and thereby create a litmus test by which you determine who is saved and who is damned?

The link to which I'm referring is specifically about how the satanic Illuminati work, with plenty of discussion about organized child abuse (SRA). It's not about 911 truth, and I never claimed it was.

Crockett-Answer yes or no to this question.   Did the US Government have any hand in executing the 9-11 operation?

Sat, 10/27/2012 - 12:06 | 2923781 CrockettAlmanac.com
CrockettAlmanac.com's picture

The CIA let known terrorists into the US. They FBI failed to follow up obvious leads involving the 9/11 terrorists. The administration did not support Richard Clark who was frantically trying to discover the nature of an attack which he was sure was imminent. Bush ignored warnings from intelligence regarding bin Laden's plans to attack the US. All of those get a "yes."

But as for "9/11 truth" which has included beliefs such as the idea that the planes which crashed into the towers were holograms or that the entire Manhattan skyline was replaced with a hologram on 9/11 get a resounding "no."

Now answer this question with a yes or no: Did the USS Maine's boiler blow up because of a stuck valve or because of a weak seem? Suppose I told you that your credibility in all things depended on the answer to that question and that you should spend a decade or more immersed in the finer points of boiler design and operation. Would you consider that to be an efficient use of your time?

Sat, 10/27/2012 - 13:44 | 2923986 Clashfan
Clashfan's picture

Ha, straw men again. And that's VERY suspicious, Crock.

I've never said anything about holograms, and you probably know that.

My point (along w/most credible truthers) is that the buildings could not have fallen like that w/out controlled demo, and controlled demo means inside job, period--see Securacom.

Your credibility is affected by failing this important litmus test.

Other important evidence involves the failure of FAA, USAF, and NORAD to tell the same fucking story.

Nanothermite found in the rubble? Inside job, pretty clear, and for those who haven't learned this a decade after the fact, credibility is affected.

As for the other matter, despite the ad hominem attacks you and nmewn engage in against me, I don't roll like that, but if you don't understand the Luciferian system in charge and how it works, you won't understand a lot.

When I am debating someone, I usually do the courtesy of examing and attacking (or supporting) the links the other offers. You don't even do that. So I'm not sure what your purpose is here, other than to derail discussion and hurl insults. I often put up sound links to back up what I say. You might question the sources, but if you examine them, you will see solid evidence. That AJ interview I posted twice above is EXCELLENT and will tell any of you much of what you need to know about the Luciferian system currently in charge.

Learning is important. Any fighting back has to begin with awareness.

Get crackin'.

? WTF?

Just tune in at 58/59 minutes, and learn something. Is that so hard?

I did not say it was "not actionable" or whatever you're spouting.

I'm saying the same thing AJ and his guest are saying--that you can't do much until you learn.

Awareness is the first step. You're not there yet, but you could be. You have to want to be there, though, and I can't see that desire in you, sadly.

As both of them point out clearly, though, fighting back involves awareness. And that's how I'm trying to fight.

You behave as you see fit, Crock. Blessings.

I didn't say that you said these supposed revelations are not actionable. I am saying that they are not actionable. I already oppose the oligarchs and plutocrats. How is delving into their sexual proclivities helpful in such opposition? I mean, if one clearly saw that Hitler (for example) was a bad man and should be stopped based on his public actions then how would fixating on his affair with his young niece assist in his overthrow? What is the point of immersing oneself in the filth of people one already despises?

But again, you should behave as you see fit. I would repeat, then, that you understand little about the Luciferian elite. This is something you should learn before you call me "cult-like" for calling out 911 truth deniers.

Do you even know who Michael Aquino is? Want "cult-like?" Take a look at him. That's "cult-like," Crockett.
