This hurricane was barely mentioned by the weather channels or news, yet it was a full CATAGORY 3 storm only a few hundred miles offshore where it stalled and sat for 2 days before heading due east away from the US and then NE.

The hurricane was called "Erin"
It was due east from NY City for 2 days as it decreased to a Cat 2.
The date Hurricane Erin was East off NY coast was September 11th 2001 (yes, on 9/11)
I was in the air traveling from Washington D.C. to Cleveland Ohio on that morning when the first WTC tower was struck by an aircraft. I do not recollect any mention of a hurricane that morning on the news before we took off, in fact I remember beautiful sunny weather.

Make no mistake about it, this storm is a very large and potentially dangeorus one. Expect long duration power outages, wind damage and flooding withing the confines of this storm. Heavy snowfall will occur on the west edge of this storm and expect power outages in those areas too. Coastal flooding will be a serious issue and if you are asked to evacuate please do so. This storm may have unpredictable and sudden changes.
