Actually, Frederich Martin was a rich NY dandy who rote a book about idle or leisure wealth and the dangers posed by it, primarily to the wealthy class.

science and religion ARE compatible. most technology now is beyond the average persons understanding, yet the effects (of technology) are very evident, (what is the term for evidence of gods divine prescence in the world?) which is in some ways like the second coming. mostly people are free from understanding science, but clearly benefit from its manifestations of grace and understanding. BUT to the point of what to do next Tuesday, sure our personal choice is nearly meaningless, but to paraphrase Carlin, "you've been a good audience.."

The idea that ones debts are not extinguished by death is certainly not new and we can rest assured that our TBTF Overlords are workig hard to revive it.
