Why Did CIA Director Petraeus Suddenly Resign … And Why Was the U.S. Ambassador to Libya Murdered?

George Washington's picture

The Deeper Questions Behind the Ambassador’s Murder … and the CIA Boss’ Sudden Resignation

While the GOP is attacking (and Dems defending) the Obama administration in connection with the murder of the U.S. ambassador to Libya, there is a deeper story.

Sure, it is stunning that the State Department never requested backup or that people such as Lieutenant Colonel Anthony Shaffer allege that President Obama personally watched in real time the attacks as they occurred via video feeds from drones flying over the Benghazi consulate.

But these claims only can be assessed – and the whole confusing mess only makes sense – if the deeper underlying story is first exposed.

Many Syrian Terrorists Come from Libya

The U.S. supported opposition which overthrew Libya’s Gadaffi was largely comprised of Al Qaeda terrorists.

According to a 2007 report by West Point’s Combating Terrorism Center’s center, the Libyan city of Benghazi was one of Al Qaeda’s main headquarters – and bases for sending Al Qaeda fighters into Iraq – prior to the overthrow of Gaddafi:
WestPoint 1 LibyaAQvsAS Why Did CIA Director Petraeus Suddenly Resign ... And Why Was the U.S. Ambassador to Libya Murdered?
Al Qaeda is now largely in control of Libya.  Indeed, Al Qaeda flags were flown over the Benghazi courthouse once Gaddafi was toppled.

(Incidentally, Gaddafi was on the verge of invading Benghazi in 2011, 4 years after the West Point report cited Benghazi as a hotbed of Al Qaeda terrorists. Gaddafi claimed – rightly it turns out – that Benghazi was an Al Qaeda stronghold and a main source of the Libyan rebellion.  But NATO planes stopped him, and protected Benghazi.)

CNN, the Telegraph,  the Washington Times, and many other mainstream sources confirm that Al Qaeda terrorists from Libya have since flooded into Syria to fight the Assad regime.

Mainstream sources also confirm that the Syrian opposition is largely comprised of Al Qaeda terrorists.  See this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this and this.

The U.S. has been arming the Syrian opposition since 2006. The post-Gaddafi Libyan government is also itself a top funder and arms supplier of the Syrian opposition.

The Real Story At Benghazi

This brings us to the murder of ambassador Stevens and the sudden resignation of CIA boss David Petraeus.

The Wall Street Journal, Telegraph and other sources confirm that the US consulate in Benghazi was mainly being used for a secret CIA operation.

They say that the State Department presence in Benghazi “provided diplomatic cover” for the previously hidden CIA mission.

Reuters notes that the CIA mission involved finding and repurchasing heavy weaponry looted from Libyan government arsenals.

Business Insider reports that Stevens may have been linked with Syrian terrorists:

There’s growing evidence that U.S. agents—particularly murdered ambassador Chris Stevens—were at least aware of heavy weapons moving from Libya to jihadist Syrian rebels.

In March 2011 Stevens became the official U.S. liaison to the al-Qaeda-linked Libyan opposition, working directly with Abdelhakim Belhadj of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group—a group that has now disbanded, with some fighters reportedly participating in the attack that took Stevens’ life.

In November 2011 The Telegraph reported that Belhadj, acting as head of the Tripoli Military Council, “met with Free Syrian Army [FSA] leaders in Istanbul and on the border with Turkey” in an effort by the new Libyan government to provide money and weapons to the growing insurgency in Syria.

Last month The Times of London reported that a Libyan ship “carrying the largest consignment of weapons for Syria … has docked in Turkey.” The shipment reportedly weighed 400 tons and included SA-7 surface-to-air anti-craft missiles and rocket-propelled grenades.

***

Reuters reports that Syrian rebels have been using those heavy weapons to shoot down Syrian helicopters and fighter jets.

The ship’s captain was ”a Libyan from Benghazi and the head of an organization called the Libyan National Council for Relief and Support,” which was presumably established by the new government.

That means that Ambassador Stevens had only one person—Belhadj—between himself and the Benghazi man who brought heavy weapons to Syria.

Furthermore, we know that jihadists are the best fighters in the Syrian opposition, but where did they come from?

Last week The Telegraph reported that a FSA commander called them “Libyans” when he explained that the FSA doesn’t “want these extremist people here.”

And if the new Libyan government was sending seasoned Islamic fighters and 400 tons of heavy weapons to Syria through a port in southern Turkey—a deal brokered by Stevens’ primary Libyan contact during the Libyan revolution—then the governments of Turkey and the U.S. surely knew about it.

Furthermore there was a CIA post in Benghazi, located 1.2 miles from the U.S. consulate, used as “a base for, among other things, collecting information on the proliferation of weaponry looted from Libyan government arsenals, including surface-to-air missiles” … and that its security features “were more advanced than those at rented villa where Stevens died.”

And we know that the CIA has been funneling weapons to the rebels in southern Turkey. The question is whether the CIA has been involved in handing out the heavy weapons from Libya.

In other words, ambassador Stevens may have been a key player in deploying Libyan terrorists and arms to fight the Syrian government.

Other sources also claim that the U.S. consulate in Benghazi was mainly being used as a CIA operation to ship fighters and arms to Syria.

Many have speculated that – if normal security measures weren’t taken to protect the Benghazi consulate or to rescue ambassador Stevens – it was  because the CIA was trying to keep an extremely low profile to protect its cover of being a normal State Department operation.

Why Did CIA Chief David Petraeus Suddenly Resign?

CIA boss David Petraeus suddenly resigned, admitting to an affair.  This could be the real explanation, given that affairs of high-level intelligence chiefs could compromise national security.

But the timing of Petraeus’ resignation becomes more interesting once one learns that that he was scheduled to testify under oath next week before power House and Senate committees regarding the Benghazi consulate.

Many speculate that it wasn’t an affair – but the desire to avoid testifying on Benghazi – which was the real reason for Petraeus’ sudden resignation.

The Big Picture

Whatever the scope of the CIA’s operation in Benghazi – and whatever the real reason for the resignation of the CIA chief – the key is our historical and ongoing foreign policy.

For decades, the U.S. has backed terrorists for geopolitical ends.

The U.S. government has been consistently planning regime change in Syria and Libya for 20 years, and dreamed of regime change – using false flag terror – for 50 years.

Obama has simply re-packaged Bush and the Neocons’ “war on terror” as a series of humanitarian wars.

And the U.S. and its allies will do anything to topple Iran … and is systematically attempting to pull the legs out from Iran’s allies as a way to isolate and weaken that country.

Americans should ask ourselves if that’s what we want …

There is an old saying, it is usually reserved for the husband or wife who is being cheated on by their significant other:"Always the last to know". Everyone else knew, all of your circle of friends, family, co-workers. The one closest to it, is always the last to know. And so it is with the American public. They are always the last to know the truth. Most of the rest of the world knows what happened in Benghazi {you can bet the Israelis and Arabs know}. Washington is the residence of a mafia family. The faces may change, but the membership never does. Marc Faber made a veiled mention of this atrocity in his latest Bloomberg interview when he said he doubted Obama would be able to serve out his term, but danced around the question of why. Can they keep it covered up? Only time will tell. Even if it does come to light, do you think it would matter to the Obamabots? I don't believe it would.

regardless of the situation petreaus can still be forced to testfify but so what ?  he 'll recite the official line that the "ambasador was killed , blah, blah, blah." The truth of the matter is that the "ambasador" was likely a CIA asset engaged in a likely gun running operation , a dangerous business to say the least. And it is no surprise the movie had ended tragically.

There's another theory I've seen discussed among ex-military but not mentioned here:

The Stevens killing was a staged kidnapping - Obama's October surprise - gone badly wrong. According to this theory, the idea was for Stevens to be "taken hostage", and Mr Nobel Peace Prize would free him after "delicate high-stakes" negotiations, and look like a hero, just before the election. But the kidnappers screwed up and killed the Ambassador.

It would explain the reduction in security, the stand-down orders blocking any CIA and military rescue, and the political weaving and ducking ever since.

That's the story I heard, but with a different ending: Obama negociates a deal where the ambasador is swapped for the Blind Sheik.

It adds up better than any other theory I've read.

Oh, and since Obama's foreign policies have been a failure this would have been a rallying flag for his team.

They probably had the cover-up and sandbagging ready to roll out as plan B if anything went wrong.

Now we're seeing the fallout... they're will be others who will resign, die in a plane crash, have a heartattack, etc. in the coming months to get this mess cleaned up.

It's in Tripoli...

On May 31, 2006 the United States of America and Libya exchanged diplomatic notes confirming the upgrade of the U.S. Liaison Office in Tripoli to a U.S. Embassy.  This exchange of notes follows upon Secretary Rice's announcement and report to Congress on May 15 of her intent to upgrade our level of diplomatic representation with Libya. The United States withdrew its last U.S. Ambassador to Libya in 1972. All remaining U.S. government personnel were withdrawn and the embassy was shut down after a mob attacked and set fire to the U.S. Embassy on December 2, 1979. Resumption of a direct diplomatic presence occurred on February 8, 2004 with the arrival of U.S. personnel at the U.S. Interests Section in Tripoli. That mission was upgraded to a Liaison Office on June 24, 2004.

Embassy is the primary location, one per country.  Consulate is a local face to conduct certain businesses, possibly many per.

e.g. Mexico embassy is in DC, on PA Ave, but many consulates, viz: http://mexico.visahq.com/embassy/United-States/

Gen Hamm, head of all AFRICOM, and an Admiral under him (Gauome?) were arrested and suddenly relieved of duty on night of Benghazi for trying to go ahead and act, instead of standing down as ordered. Their default is to always send rescue, couldn't believe BHO ordered a 'stand down' during Benghazi. Now Patreaus gone for standing up for CIA pre-election and not falling on sword for BHO lies.

Gen. Patreaus knows all about Benghazi, and Obama was using FBI to blackmail him to STFU at CIA. We are still close to having our military oust BHO for being a traitor, IMHO, per comments coming out of Russia.  Good news is, at least we know our military is on the people's side.

So what was going on you say?? Obama is community organizing and running guns to Al-Qaeda (far, far from being dead) so they would go fight in Syria to oust Assad the Shia for benefit of the MB Sunni Caliphate Obama is backing. Amb. Stevens and the others had to die to keep all of this quiet and from making BHO look bad.

Also, Putin has not been sitting still and is said to have had a hand in all this by counter-organizing Al-Qaeda into attacking in Benghazi. Firing on Al-Qaeda would have burned the A-Q bridge for good. Also, BHO had gay ambassador Chris Stevens in Libya with unarmed gay security personel, and all their 'domestic partners' as staff, massively employed at Benghazi -- which was incredibly stupid and could not have gone over very well with Al-Qaeda, so it should come as no surprise Al-Qaeda turned.

No one in MSM has ever asked -- So WTF were all these guys doing in Benghazi anyway?

Two thoughts/observations. Remember, Panetta said that he, Hamm, and Dempsey all decided they couldn't get there in time. He was quoted saying that. Hamm got canned, is that accurate?

What I can't figure is if BHO is/was hanging this over Patreaus' head, his leverage is gone now. BHO of course knew months ago (if not years ago) about that affair, but most certainly was told a few weeks ago by the FBI. He WILL testify - and when he raises his right hand, my guess is he won't want to destroy (further) what reputation he has left.

Sat, 11/10/2012 - 21:16 | 2968920 gwar5

Hamm was canned before the bit of 'theatre' with Panetta. Panetta said, "they all agreed" on course of action, which is total bullshit because that is not how chain of command works -- it is strictly top down. Panetta just staged that for the public and to spread blame around on Hamm instead of where it exclusively came from -- BHO. Hamm has been back home under a cloud and if he plays along he may still get his pension after 40 years of service. BHO won re-election so it sucks for him.

It was always strange for BHO to put Patreaus into head of CIA insofar as he was always a potential rival. Now we know, BHO always had leverage over him and could control him and dispose of him like a kleenex if needed. May have even forced him to take the job to put a patriotic shine on BHO's socialist administration. Recall BHO always had FBI watching him, just like they watch all of us all the time.

Patreaus is military first and will answer questions from congress, as asked. Gen. Hamm and other active duty damaged in this cannot be frank, but former Generals and Admirals are very alarmed at what is happening, and are coming forward and speaking out publically.

Panetta and BHO will have their hands full. Long knives are out for Marxist BHO who is not to be trusted. It will be a fight, and BHO will try to smear the military and remove them as the most trusted institution remaining in America.  If BHO wins he will have officially succeeded in making us a banana republic.
