Those are some good reading recommendations that I'll have to check out.
As for the pocket pistol, I think a good contender is the Kahr CM9, which is maybe only a quarter inch longer than the rohrbaugh and only $380. 6+1 rounds of 9mm, Glock-style design and reliability, eminently concealable, and reasonably priced.
+1 and add some dawson precision night sights for low light encounters...
Enough already with the recommendations for the ever-shorter-barreled concealable handgun. Everyone who knows nothing about the recoil cycle, please go ahead and buy one. Then take it out and shoot it under ideal conditions, trying as hard as you can to hold on to it firmly so that extraction, ejection and feeding can reliably occur. And yes, i do mean hanging on to it firmly enough and resisting its natural tendency to rotate into your hand's web so that the slide itself can move adequately rearwards wrt the frame in order to cycle the gun. Fells great, and no problem, yes?
Then drink 8 cups of coffee on an empty stomach, and go back to the range and try again. Then do so outside in a downpour when the gun gets slippery.
You will learn something about the recoil cycle and why service semi-auto pistols are NOT SHORT BARRELED. A fool and his money are soon parted.
A pocket pistol on your person when you need it is generally more useful than a full-sized pistol that you had to leave at home. Both have a place, and for both the main rule should be: practice, practice, practice.
I get your logic, but a 2.9" barrel on a 9mm?
Then again, if I ever feel the need to carry in order to feel safe, well, that's what my 12 ga. magnum is for.
And if I want concealed? Well, that will be me and my camo, and my forest.
My primary carry gun started life as a 1911 style chambered .45acp and the non-threaded barrel for it is only 3.0"
The felt recoil is far worse on the puny pocket Kel-Tecs which are only .380 w/ 2.7" barrel
So there is more to it than just barrel length (or even about 20oz)
Regardless- intimate familiarity, training, and PRACTICE, PRACTICE, and more PRACTICE in ALL weather, lighting, and other easily modified conditions is a prerequisite to competent and reliably lethal deployment.
When the fiat dies we will all carry full sized 9 mm. Until then a 380 gives you a way to carry without pissing off the peasants or police.
I intend to use up all my credit cards if you say on the 12th day of xmas, the collapse will come.
Else I would just say to all ZH'ers
Merry Christmas !
I agree the Sig Saur is a fricking great gun. If you are on a budget the Ruger LCP 380 works just fine. The laser is more for conversation. After break in the Ruger works fine, run 200 rounds through it before putting it into service.
If you are in a gun fight with a 380 the laser will be the last thing on your mind.
I thought the list was pretty good. As for the gun I have no experience with it, way above my pay grade. I like those books and have read a couple. Great picks.
Sig-238 in .380ACP with the tritium sights. Skip the laser. And it even takes your old Colt Mustang mags.
Glock (of Austria) is the best candidate for "Official Handgun of Zero Hedge".
Designed in Austria? Austrian School?
A natural when used in defense from attack by Keynesian mobs.
