He took off in one direction but appeared to have landed in another. They did not show the necessary 180 degree turn in flight required for this to occur because if he had tried a 180 he would have probably landed on his head. As there is really nothing in the hardware to provide any sort of stability I seriously doubt that this thing ever got off the ground. My qualifications for such insight, 33 years engineering with Hughes Aircraft and Raytheon Co.

I am curious to know whether it is a hoax, but either way, it lightened up my evening.

I posted this on my blog also. I have 15,000 hours and was taught that Bernoulli's law made lift, it is bullshit, NASA revealed that what I thought when I was 5 years old makes lift---Newton's IIIrd law.
That said, there is mounting evidence that this is a hoax. An elaborate one if so.
There was a company, I think in the Netherlands that made a large gull fly with flapping wings, so on a quasi large scale this is plausable. The control issue has me wondering.

Amusing fraud, but still a fraud.
As Sherman points out, no control. Nothing like a functioning tail. Not enough fabric for a decent parachute, and since when does any form of fabric produce lift? Speed too slow, to support a human's weight, and nothing like enough power. Birds use specialized breast muscles. The scale just does not work.
Still, nicely done. Not a damn piece of it works, but they still make it look plausible.
I'm still of the camp where it is possible until proven. I've done a little hang gliding --- totally sucked at it. On a short hop you can get by on a wing and a prayer.
I think the helmet camera is what looks off, that and the picure/link i posted above of the square spot on the wing and then not on the wing.
Hang gliding is a good analogy, but all the power comes from gravity and wind. One quick clue is that the wing is too long. Think about the torque that would be required to move that wing, with that leverage, if it really carried a load. And the silly thing is clearly billowing in the wind, not producing lift. Still, looks pretty good. Damn those crop circles and jackalopes;)
Well there is suddenly plenty of attention focused on it so we will soon get to the truth I'm sure. These viral videos are not impervious to scrutiny as we have seen with the AppleBasher and the KONYhead.
I hope this guy doesn't turn up naked and drunk in public. I'm not an engineer, but one thing I do know, birds don't have patents.
I know someone who is a senior aeronautic engineer and I am sending this to him for his diagnosis.
I for one, would rather believe this is possible rather than all the other very real shit depicted above.

Nothing to do with beurnolli's really (that's airfoil pressure amongst other things, which takes alot of velocity for it to become truly affective for lift) but more to do with density ... most flying birds have no teeth and hollow bones. Might be possible for Timmy G., The Bernanke, etc,, if they have false teeth to pull this off!
