This Month In Fascism
America Slides Into Fascism
The U.S. Supreme Court, based on the urging of the Obama administration,- has ruled that any prisoner - even those arrested for offenses such as dog leash laws, peaceful protests, and driving with an expired license - can be subject to a routine strip search upon entering prison.
The government is also openly saying that it will use all of our smart devices, internet connections, and tv to spy on Americans.
President Obama has issued an executive order entitled "National Defense Resources Preparedness", which instructs the heads of various U.S. agencies to be on standby for authorization of martial law under by the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. The order in fact gives Executive Branch immediate to power to seize and control of any and all assets declared as critical to maintain its industrial and technological base and to control the general distribution of any material (including applicable services) in the civilian market. The order further authorizes the immediate issuance of regulations to allocate, ration, or seize and all materials, including every thing from food, live stock and farm equipment to transportation, energy and even water. (However, some commentators say that this new executive order is only a minor tweak of previous executive orders dating back to 1994.)
Yawning or having goose bumps have been added to the list of things acts which might get you labeled as a potential terrorist.
Senators Ron Wyden and Mark Udall recently made a statement that Americans would be "stunned" if they knew how the American Government is interpreting, applying and using the Patriot Act:
The National Security Agency is building a $2 billion dollar facility in Utah which will use the world's most powerful supercomputer to monitor virtually all phone calls, emails, internet usage, purchases and rentals, break all encryption, and then store everyone's data permanently.
A former head of the program held his thumb and forefinger close together, and said:
We are, like, that far from a turnkey totalitarian state.

Funny how a nation that was prepared for thermonuclear war and the loss of entire metropolitan areas is so willing to end our way of life over little pinpricks from goons.
Given the technology, such pinpricks are inevitable. Back in the day there were bombings nearly every day. Remember the Puerto Ricans? I think the peak was like about 250 in 1969.
Big deal. I will take my chances with liberty, thank you very much. We are a stronger people than the paternalist police state sucklers can imagine.
Well said, Jim.
How the US uses sexual humiliation as a political tool to control the masses
Naomi Wolf
In a five-four ruling this week, the supreme court decided that anyone can be strip-searched upon arrest for any offense, however minor, at any time. This horror show ruling joins two recent horror show laws: the NDAA, which lets anyone be arrested forever at any time, and HR 347, the "trespass bill", which gives you a 10-year sentence for protestinganywhere near someone with secret service protection. These criminalizations of being human follow, of course, the mini-uprising of the Occupy movement.
Is American strip-searching benign? The man who had brought the initial suit, Albert Florence, described having been told to "turn around. Squat and cough. Spread your cheeks." He said he felt humiliated: "It made me feel like less of a man."
In surreal reasoning, justice Anthony Kennedy explained that this ruling is necessary because the 9/11 bomber could have been stopped for speeding. How would strip searching him have prevented the attack? Did justice Kennedy imagine that plans to blow up the twin towers had been concealed in a body cavity? In still more bizarre non-logic, his and the other justices' decision rests on concerns about weapons and contraband in prison systems. But people under arrest – that is, who are not yet convicted – haven't been introduced into a prison population.

Justice Anthony Kennedy seems to think that every speeding American is a potential 9/11 bomber. I know Americans are obese, but how much thermite can you hide up your fat ass?

Like the TSA it is mostly to intimidate and condition 'us' to quite literally now bend over and acquiesce to authority.
What a pain in the ass these cops are!
Break All Encryption? Yaaaahhh... Right. The government can build whatever super wiz bang facility they want, but it is HIGHLY unlikely they will ever break even a fraction of the encryption techniques currently available. One person with a simple piece of paper making basic cipher replacements can render decryption pretty much impossible if that person has a basic understanding of what to do.
So naive, grasshopper
NSA develops AES encryption and publishes many articles stating it is uncrackable. NSA contractors certify FIPS 140-2 security compliance. Now NSA is building a $2B Utah data center to capture all voice, email, and data traffic. Hmmm.... why would NSA be allowed to spend $2B on a data center in Utah if AES is really uncrackable ? And we worry about the Chinese building back doors into chipsets?
They've got past that in the UK at least - in the UK, of you have information that the authorities believe to be encrypted and you fail to supply the decryption key, that's an offence in itself.
Note that this isn't if you refuse to supply the key - so if you forget the key, you can also be charged.
People have been jailed for this already.
http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/361693/teenager-jailed-for-refusing-to-revea...
http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2007/10/uk-can-now-demand-data-d...
Interesting, eh? Who needs supercomputers when you can just throw someone in jail for posession of encrypted material?
The limitation is simply their inability to enforce the rule. That's always how it boils down. They can have the death penalty for speeding but if everybody does it who cares?
They point of the insane laws is now that everybody is guilty of something is that they won't arrest everybody, they'll just arrest shit disturbers, which is of course, terrifying because we are the shit disturbers.
I believe that to legally sell an encryption algorithm to the public, you must tell the government how to crack it. I seem to recall a few cases (PGP, RSA, etc...) where that occured.
You can't crack a one-time pad.
Remember the CPUSA of the 50's? When it was all over it turned out 90% of the Communist Party of the U.S.A. were FBI Agents and informers! If you're old enough you listened to Herb Philbrick story on radio, "I was a Communist for the FBI".
Refer to "legally sell an encryption algorithm to the public" part of the comment.
True, but how are you going to coordinate the key with a recipient? It isn't something that can be used for great volumes of communications with a great number of people.
And how could this technique be used while posting to ZH?
Maybe we can send pad key info to friends using snail mail. They never intercept that, do they?
Look at the Enigma code, which was unbreakable, or at least the Wehrhacht thought it was. The problem is not breaking the code, it's finding the message and decoding it in time to do something about it. It does no good to find out what's going to happen after it's happened.
You should go look up "SSL Intercept". HTTPS is toast if all of your traffic goes through a choke point. The device at the choke point pretends to be the the server to the user and the user to the server.............

Man in the middle attack....
"Senators Ron Wyden and Mark Udall recently made a statement that Americans would be "stunned" if they knew how the American Government is interpreting, applying and using the Patriot Act:"
In all honesty, I have tried, TRIED having intelligent conversations with sheeple-minded friends of mine about some of these issue's, and frankly, they don't believe, nor do they fully understand. In January in particular, when the NDAA was passed, I tried bringing these concepts up (right to trial, representation, charge....) and every single other person in the conversation did not believe the rights they had previously enjoyed were being trampled on. They had no concept of being nabbed off the street for inciteful ramblings or internet posts and flung into a gulag. I mentioned that all of these things took place in socialist societies (we used to make fun of), and that the laws were in-place to do it here. Mentioned examples of civil protest being thwarted and muted, and was met w/ blank stares. I was "the weird guy" in the room and know that I made absolutely zero impact on their opinions of the situation.
These people are my friends, and I love them dearly, but they are completely unaware of what is happening to the world around them, they don't have the ability to grasp the larger picture anymore, and will be blind-sided by the truth when it hits (but by then of course, it will be too late).
Thanks for sharing GW, love reading your stuff, keep up the fight.
Many of us can relate to what you say about friends & family not getting it. - - You may have already watched/listened to the interview of Congressional investigator Norman Dodd with G Edward Griffin (YouTube or other online sources) . In that interview Dodd points out how the education of Americans of their history and government have been purposely under attack going back to at least the early 1900s. - - Your friends and family don't understand how their rights are being destroyed; they were never taught what their rights Are, and where they originate from. - - Most of them are likely involved in their daily lives and earning their bread. What little time is leftover is dedicated to whatever 'circuses' may divert their attention.
Combine this purposeful lack of education on these vital matters and the natural human tendency to try to deny bad news - - and it can be tough to get through the fog. Unfortunately, it seems to take some kind of pain to get people to change. Often, even that doesnt work. All we can do is keep putting the information out there. Some will choose to get it, and many won't. Many of us thought these topics were 'whacko' until we investigated them deeply over time.
So damn fucking true! It's rare that I find anyone with half a clue.
We don't have "the disappeared" in the US yet. So they don't get it.
Really? I have heard several accounts that suggest otherwise.
Exactly. But history shows that the arrests don't start until the mechanisms are in place and a bullshit "crisis" has been created.
That may be because "the disappeared" end up overseas.
I wonder if these powers could be used to make political enemies disappear? What our elected leaders and representatives have done in the last few decades terrorizes me. If I miraculosly awakened as president one morning could I simply make them all disappear? No one should be allowed such power, except maybe me because I can be trusted to act in the best interests of all citizens.
Same story here, focus your energies on more productive endeavors.
Pretty clearly the state believes that the biggest threat is within our borders vs. coming from some rickety boat from Yemen. I walked to work yesterday and counted at least 15 cameras in my 1 block walk, god help us if they are all accessible to the NSA
Exactly...the bust of 2008 was certainly no accident and technically not a crime since it was undertaken at the behest of a fully supportive Federal Government. Fact is far too many Americans had a dangerous amount of free time and capital.
no honest impartial assessment could conclude otherwise.
We were living a trumped up lie. It has nothing to do with the middle class becoming some kind of threat, but rather too many promises made to buy votes that now cannot be kept. People in Greece are not rioting because they want a more capitalistic society, they are rioting because they want the handouts they were promised--it's all about the sense of entitlement. And to some degree, they are right--you work a shit job for years at a lower than market wage but there's this pension promised and now they feel like fools because the pension cannot materialize. I'd be fucking pissed off, too. The whole thing was stupid to begin with, unions, and all of it, but people buy into Marx for a reason, it is very alluring to those of average or below average mathematical ability.
you are under attack by the powerless masses? hilarious.
that is a control meme born of a convenient component.
collapse all support that you wish and the imperial government would be too busy with internal strife to be productive internationally. unless of course you substitute prison camps and ovens.
Worse... they are in control of marginally educated voyeuristic county/state/goobermint contracted employee's working for 11-bucks an hour. I know, one of them is a friend of mine. Unemployed from his regular career (same sad story you hear everywhere these days), and he now works as a contractor for the county, midnights over the weekend, watching a bank of TV screens connected to every single camera in the greater metropolitain area. Click a few keys, change a few dials, he's zoomed in on the ass of some bippy talking outside a club. (Click, tap, tap, flick), traffic-cam at the thruway on-ramp. (Whir, flick, tap, tap) Hospital entrance. He makes 11.36 an hour and passed a ridiculously simple civil-service exam, never to receive more than 36-hours per wekk (as they'd have to pay him benefits then...)
They should just put all the camera feeds on the web for free and let everyone watch all the time.
AlJaz has apparently been suborned.
On the other hand there are always good sources of news and analysis emerging and/or still for real.

Over the past two years or so I have gotten so many interesting, topical links through ZH readers. Please keep sharing (even the really fringe stuff :-p )
Thanks tons for the links.
I'm curious, though. Compared to the insanity that passes for "Conventional Wisdom" these days, how does one determine what is "the really fringe stuff?"
When I was in college, my buddies and I would buy the Sunday New York Times and The Weekly World News. Then we would partake of recreational substances, and choose stories to read aloud to each other. The goal of the game was to find stories in each paper and read them, verbatim, so our buddies couldn't tell which paper they were from.
WWN has folded, sadly; but you could use The Onion. Except it wouldn't even be a fun game today. We've gotten to the point where the old Soviet joke applies to us, "But you have to know HOW to read Pravda."
Well, many would consider this fringe. I think the meme being propagated is more important than verity in this case.
Also this is a little fringy but it's the meme again plus some of the more obscure names here make good starting points for research.
Speaking of fringe, if a white, white, white and comfortably wealthy establishment couple present "fringe" ideas as if we were speaking over cocktails at the Country Club (or the Circle Sportif) are the ideas now fringe but accessable or are they mainstream?
Yes, I think you are correct that many would consider those three links "fringy," but I especially agree with you that the meme being propogated is the key here. That's kind of what I meant by citing the Soviet-era joke about knowing HOW to read Pravda.
I had an experience as a young adult, working in a coffee shop in a sketchy neighborhood near a major university. Clientele included the wealthy, criminals, students, quite celebrated intellectuals, street people, hippies, businessmen, mental patients; you name it. I spent some time talking to some quite crazy people. One thing I noticed was that the really nutty people; manic-depressive, bi-polar, schizophrenic; made some of the most sense in many ways. They saw patterns that most people ignored. Of course, I was dubious that random passers-by were modifying their car radios with parts from Radio Shack to monitor these people's thoughts; or that the gas company was watching their every move with micro-cameras; or that anybody particularly cared what these people were telling a 22 year-old floor-mopper at an off-campus coffee shop at 2:00 am. Especially since periodically these people would stay up for a couple hundred hours in a row and see demons.
After a while though, it ocurred to me that if I stayed up that long, I'd probably see demons, too. And that if one accepted that they were being persecuted in these ways, their behavior was quite reasonable. And I have since learned that in fact people ostensibly employed as utility workers have installed amazingly advanced bugs to surveil people.
Again, it helped a lot to not get hung up on the specifics, but to watch the meme. Over time, the divergences between the "Conventional Wisdom" and the various memes one encounters become quite striking. And it's quite clear which relates more closely with the way things have truly played out.
I'll take the loonies over the paid presenters, all other things being equalized, every time. I've done so, with a healthy dose of skepticism, and it's paid off handsomely for me.
Thanks again for the links.

There's a separate interview with Aaron Russo that's always a good watch.
PS. If you watch this you are officially a terrrist....
It's important to remember that more or less every tool of dominance and intimidation that governments have ever had... they have soon enough used.
"Don't worry, the crazy gorilla with the Uzi won't really shoot," is not a good position to take.
The same pigdemon families that ran the nazis, run America today, working towards the same result.....if we let them.
GW this puts all (most of) the pieces together. There are some bits missing regarding crowd control heating machines and Lord in the Sky pronouncements, etc. I kind of wonder if that last would ever be used. Could "jump the shark" for TPTB...
One stop shopping for the entire matrix would be too large though - even for you. It would have to come in volumes...and maybe one day it will.

Progressive Paradise !
The government gets all the power, all the resources, all the priviledge.
The ignorant citizens continue to graze on the spillage from the Leviathan.
The truely enlightened leaders will bear the burden of absolute power with the absolute conviction of their righteousness.
No one will be allowed to refuse the "assistance" of the State.
Oh ! The buzzin' of the bees and the cocont trees ! The soda water fountain...............
Great post GW.
I've been saying it for years. "Dumb Down" your life. Eschew "smart phones" (my moniker for them; Dumb phones or Drone Phones). It is telling that one cannot walk into a Verizon/at&t store and purchase a regular old cell phone anymore; they're "making" you buy a Droid/iPhone.
I buy burn phones - and change them regularly. I am not on Facebook, Twitter, and also change bank accounts (credit unions) with regularity. I still do much business in cash - while that lasts. I own gold and silver.
Being on here is a track for them. I routinely change email, screen "names" and have a computer tech that crubs the hell out of my PC's regularly. Still, the facists can track me.
In time, I will renounce and move completely out of the country - then continue scrubbing until most of "me" is gone from here - as much as I can erase.
In my view, it's the only way to get away from these criminals that are supposedly our "leaders". They stopped "leading" years ago.
You could start browsing the net with Tor, also available for Droid, includes a secure messenger.
Today's 'leaders' are water carriers for the money power that no allegiance to anything but themselves.
All you need is a fake birth certificate and a bogus Social Security number. Then make sure no one can find any other documents from your past. In other words, follow the techniques used by our president.

UrbanSurvival.com: Financial and Socioeconomic News UpdateThat's sort of crazy--the Urbansurvival guy believes the Internet can predict the future. He's a complete crank, in other words.
Noted.
We all know what "Dirty Harry" said about OPINIONS!
"the Urbansurvival guy believes the Internet can predict the future." George Ure (the Urbansurvival guy) is not the originator of the concept, Clif High is halfpasthuman.com).
BTW, You don't believe that the internet can predict the future? Hell, the majority of the posts on ZH attempt to do just that! And when the web-bots and spiders are snooping around the internet all of us in a small way are feeding data into said predictions, no?
Perhaps you should read: http://www.halfpasthuman.com/altaprocess.html
Forget which Terminator movie it was, but the protagonist had same strategy, stay off the Net and live homeless, lest the Terminator found him through data searches.
