Bin Laden: Everyone Is Missing the Big Picture

Obama and Romney Are Both Ignoring the Real Issue with Killing Bin Laden

The anniversary of Bin Laden's death is big news.

Obama is bragging about how he whacked Bin Laden, accusing Romney of being too soft to take out bad guys.

Romney supporters accuse Obama of "spiking the football" and inappropriately showing off to score political points.

Both sides are missing the big picture.    Specifically, we noted last year:

I’m as happy as the next red-blooded American that Bin Laden is dead.

For more than a decade, the government has said that Bin Laden is the world’s worst terrorist, a terrorist kingpin, the head of the worst terrorist group in the world.

But if we captured and interrogated him, he could have spilled a lot of beans which would help prevent future terrorist attacks.

Right?

But as the Atlantic reports today:

There’s one option the administration appears to have never seriously considered: taking bin Laden alive.

***

The administration had made clear to the military’s clandestine Joint Special Operations Command that it wanted bin Laden dead, according to a senior U.S. official with knowledge of the discussions. A high-ranking military officer briefed on the assault said the SEALs knew their mission was not to take him alive. ***

And Gareth Porter reported yesterday that the U.S. didn’t even consider capturing Bin Laden as part of its Afghanistan war strategy:

The absence of any military planning to catch bin Laden was a function of Bush’s national security team, led by Vice-President Dick Cheney and Secretary of Defence Donald Rumsfeld, which had firmly opposed any military operation in Afghanistan that would have had any possibility of catching bin Laden and his lieutenants.Rumsfeld and the second-ranking official at the Pentagon, Paul Wolfowitz, had dismissed CIA warnings of an al Qaeda terrorist attack against the United States in the summer of 2001, and even after 9/11 had continued to question the CIA’s conclusion that bin Laden and al Qaeda were behind the attacks.

Cheney and Rumsfeld were determined not to allow a focus on bin Laden to interfere with their plan for a U.S. invasion of Iraq to overthrow the Saddam Hussein regime.

Even after Bush decided in favour of an Afghan campaign, CENTCOM commander Tommy Franks, who was responsible for the war in Afghanistan, was not directed to have a plan for bin Laden’s capture or to block his escape to Pakistan. [Background.]

We tortured a bunch of innocent farmers, children, grandparents and reporters … supposedly to get information about Bin Laden. But it doesn’t seem like the government was very interested in actually interrogating Bin Laden himself.

We pointed out the next day:

The Christian Science Monitor reports today:

Some US military intelligence officials also lament that bin Laden was not taken alive – and privately wonder whether concerns about the political “headaches” involved in trying detainees may have led the Obama administration to favor killing rather than capturing the architect of 9/11.

The opportunity to glean valuable intelligence from the leader of a powerful terrorist organization was lost, says retired Army Col. Stuart Herrington, a military intelligence specialist who interrogated generals under the command of Saddam Hussein and evaluated US detention operations at Guantánamo.

It is a misconception that ideologues don’t talk, he says. “The opinion that, ‘Oh, he’s such a fanatic, he won’t tell us anything' – that’s uninformed blathering by people who don’t understand the business,” Herrington adds.

The Christian Science Monitor article also confirms that torture doesn’t work to produce actionable intelligence, and points out that even Bin Laden could have been made to talk if other interrogation techniques were used.

***

The ranking Republican on the Senate Intelligence Committee. – Senator Chambliss – says that the executive order stated that Bin Laden should be killed ....

As we noted  in 2008, Bin Laden was useful to the U.S. as a prop in the so-called war on terror:

Former deputy national intelligence officer for transnational threats, a 23-year senior CIA analyst, who “drafted or was involved in many of the government’s most senior assessments of the threats facing our country [and who] devoted years to understanding and combating the jihadist threat”, writes today in the Washington Post that the neocons have whipped us into an irrational fear of the terrorism. In reality, “Osama bin Laden and his disciples are small men and secondary threats whose shadows are made large by our fears” and our leaders.

This is no surprise to anyone who has been paying attention. The BBC produced a documentary called The Power of Nightmares in 2005 that showed that politicians were greatly exaggerating the terrorist threat for political ends.

Indeed, we noted in 2009:

A United States Congressman claims that the Bush administration intentionally let Bin Laden escape in order to justify the Iraq war.

***

Many people claim that Bin Laden died a long time ago. According to Israeli intelligence, Pakistani intelligence, and other sources, Bin Laden is dead.

According to video experts and and top Bin Laden experts, recent Bin Laden videos are fake.

So if Bin Laden is alive, American leaders have to explain why they have repeatedly chosen not to pull the trigger.

And if he is dead, they have to explain why they are claiming that he’s alive and authenticating his videos.

Bin Laden, Like Saddam Huessein, KNEW TOO MUCH-that is why they had to go-and Bin Laden given an honorable burial at sea?!  WHY?! WTF?!?!?!? They never wanted to have people say that Bin Laden died in Dec 2001; Benito Bhutto says so in an interview with David Frost on the BBC; When he was told of this earthshaking news in 2007, did he excitedly ply her with questions?-go for the biggest scoop of the decade?-Nope.....without skipping a beat-he asked her about her favorite chocolate chip cookie recipies....that made mr Cheney VERY nervous....she was assasinated soon after running for office in Pakistan

YOU KNOW YOU ARE BEING LIED TO WHEN YOU SEE....

Bill Clinton's lips move.   Obama's lips move.    Every goddamn politician who talks to you with only his lower teeth showing, it's a sign that they are speaking down to you because they think they're much much better and wiser than you.   Hey, WTF, why not?   Whose the Congressman/Senator, RIGHT?

Why do you think that Dr. Evil Dick Cheney does not have a pulse?  He's the original ZOMBIE.

There is plenty of Hard evidence 9/11 is a BS story.

Here's the smoking gun....

This is from a peer reviewed medical journal.

Case Report: Lung Disease in World Trade Center Responders ?Exposed to Dust and Smoke: Carbon Nanotubes Found in the Lungs ?of World Trade Center Patients and Dust Samples

Carbon nanotubes (CNT) of various sizes and lengths were noted. CNT were also identified in four of seven WTC dust samples.

Discussion: These findings confirm the previously reported association between WTC dust exposure and bronchiolar and interstitial lung disease. Long-term monitoring of responders will be needed to elucidate the full extent of this problem. The finding of CNT in both WTC dust and lung tissues is unexpected and requires further study.

Quote:

Electron microscopy mineralogic findings.
A summary of the mineralogic analysis in correlation with pathologic features is given in Table 1. Four of the seven WTC dust samples contained CNT. The lung specimens of three of the patients with interstitial disease (Patients A, B, and C) contained CNT (Figure 3A) virtually identical to those of the dust samples (Figure 3B) and of the positive control sample (Figure 3C). CNT seen were all single-walled and of various lengths. They were mostly ropelike under electron microscopy. The fourth patient with CNT had mild chronic bronchiolitis and occasional peribronchiolar and submucosal fibrosis (Patient D). The nanotubes identified in patient lung samples appear mostly in single or pairs. The single nanotubes are indicated by arrows in all graphs of Figure 3. Most CNT seen in the CNT-positive control and WTC dust samples were stacks of single nanotubes, thus appearing to be variable in thickness. No CNT were found in the lungs of either the 40 construction workers or the 20 negative control samples.

Electron micrographs of CNT. These appear as tangled long transparent hairlike ropes and stacks of single-walled CNT. All three representative graphs were taken at a magnification of 100K. Single CNT in each graph are indicated by thin arrow. The arrowheads depict metal particles. Bar = 100 nm. (A) Digested patient lung tissue. (B) WTC dust sample. (C) Control sample from NIOSH.

Quote:

Of the patients with interstitial disease, all had large amounts of aluminum and magnesium silicates in an unusual platy configuration, ranging from 27,600 to 184,000/g wet weight of lung. As a comparison, we reexamined for the presence of CNT in 40 samples taken from unrelated workers from diverse construction trades suspected for asbestos-related disease. These patients were known to have been exposed to asbestos, and most of these 40 patients had a high lung burden of asbestos fibers. Less than 10%, however, had platy aluminum and magnesium silicates similar to those seen in WTC patients. Furthermore when they were seen in the control samples, they were present in small quantities (< 1,000/g wet weight of lung).

But here is the most idiotic and ridiculous...

For instance reports that the plane "vaporized" at the Pentagon and Shanksville

ABC News correspondent John McWethy was at the Pentagon at the time it was hit. [NEWSWEEK, 9/24/2001] At some later time, an army general he knows offers to take him in closer to the crash site. McWethy recalls: “I got in very close, got a look early on at the bad stuff. I could not, however, see any plane wreckage—it was well inside and had been, basically, vaporized.”

Searchers recovered about 510 pounds of human remains at the crash scene, equaling about eight percent of the total bodyweight on the plane. According to Somerset County Coroner Wallace Miller, everything else was vaporized. [WASHINGTON POST, 5/12/2002AGE (MELBOURNE), 9/9/2002CANADIAN PRESS, 3/28/2004]

Astaneh-Asl sees a charred I-beam from WTC Building 7, which collapsed late in the afternoon of 9/11. “The beam, so named because its cross-section looks like a capital I, had clearly endured searing temperatures. Parts of the flat top of the I, once five-eighths of an inch thick, had vaporized.” [NEW YORK TIMES, 10/2/2001]

“The amount of energy introduced during the generation of the WTC dust and the ensuing conflagration caused various components to vaporize.… Many of the materials, such as lead, cadmium, mercury, and various organic compounds, vaporized and then condensed during the WTC event.” [RJ LEEGROUP, INC., 12/2003, PP. 21

VAPORIZED?!?!?!!? Not likely....

Bin Laden has been dead for years. The pictures they show of him on TV supposedly his last known of him watching TV

from a side angle, are of someone else, his nose is curved and Bin Laden had a straight nose, but who notices?

Obama said it was Bin Laden, so we should not question our beloved leader. Pres. Butto of Pakistan during a David Frost

interview, when giving the names of her future assassines, mentioned one who she said was also the man who killed Bin

Laden, as if that were generally known information in her circle ( but has been kept secret from U.S. citizens ) But even if

he was alive and was captured, he couldn't be left alive to be questioned because as is common knowledge among the CIA,

he was a CIA opperative for many years and was used as the fall guy for 9-11. This is nothing new, history books are full

of crap. No war was ever fought for the reasons given in history books. I have been fed so much shit all my life, I am

beginning to feel like a mushroom farm.

George Orwell would have had Big Brother personally kill off the international 2 minute of hate object,  Immanuel Goldstein, in his sequel 1994.  Orwell died before he could write it.  /sarc

OBL had marfan syndrome and died from its complications, most probably renal failure, though there are many that can eventually prove fatal.  At the moment of the WTC disintegration, according to CBS he was in a Pakistani hospital undergoing dialysis.  He died around Jan 1, 2002.  The only real video he made after 9/11 was his first one, and as a CIA asset, he was really pissed for being fingered as a patsy for the attack.  No formal indictment by any governmental body was ever issued for his arrest though a huge award was offerred for information leading to his capture.  Issuing a multimillion dollar capture reward without an indictment is a tad unusual.  The Taliban demanded a detailed indictment before considering whether to turn him over.  Cheney told them to fuck off.  Even if he had not died of disease months after 9/11, he would have been as likely to have a day in court as his fellow patsy, Lee Harvey Oswald.  Like musrooms we are kept in the dark and fed bullshit.  It's a little embarrassing even to make the effort to write this comment.

osama bin laden was murdered for the same reason as oswald - he was a patsy. al qaeda is nothing more than a database (al qaeda's meaning) of mercenaries which the cia developed starting in the 1980s as it conducted its war against the ussr in afghanistan.

the bush crime syndicate then used those mercenaries to orchestrate a series of suspicious activities to implicate al qaeda in 9/11. in no way shape or form did a bunch of small thugs have the capability to pull off the greatest crime in history.

9/11 was exclusively the province of the intelligence world of powerful states - the bush crime syndicate needed a new enemy after the demise of the ussr to maintain funding of the military industrial complex and to advance the aims of the rockefeller axis of evil.

bin laden was murdered (long ago) to bury the truth. as you do when you are a mobster.

The utter incompetence of the CIA has been unbeliveable since its inception. The X-Files hysteria is exactly what is desired by the CIA.  No organization is closer to the CIA, than the New Yotk Times because it is a symbiotic relationship where the CIA wants everyone to believe it is all knowing and the New York Times needs its bogeyman to be all knowing.

Obama is following the classic do as I say and not as I do routine of all politicos  Obama has groveled before the Saudis, the Russians, any Arab he can find and the Chinese.  Obama's Mendacity is solely focused on America and the enemies he finds there.  Obama is far more ruthless than a Romney, Romney would have had bin Laden killed, if he was President.

The killing of bin Ladien was the only choice he left himself. He could not interrogate him because that would be persumed torture.  Torture now including well established interrogation techniques of disrrupting sleep and isolation, as Obama Administration has decided. That is why rendition continues and has increased under Obama.   Let someone else do the torturing and dirty work.

The reason you do not torture prisoners is that you do not want your prisoners to be tortured.  Highly trained interrogators are very good, but exxagerate their own skills far too often.   Tortune using force such as water-boarding leads to good and bad information.   Physical torture fails because it becomes the only technique.

The Soviets for years used brute force to show they just could, but developed a highly skilled retinue of drugs with skilled interrogators that rendered far more actionable intelligence. Are drugs more intrusive, than waterboarding or disruptive sleep? More humane?  The skill set does not exist in the US to discern fantasy from created information that can result in any technique, but especially drugs.

Obama had to try bin Laden because he was such a loud mouth know-it all about what is right and wrong. His petard bound him.   The trying of bin Laden was even less in the interest of Obama than it was Bush. Bin Laden's trial would have had to be public and it would have exposed the intertwining of bin Laden's millions with Soros and other "money managers."  Obama is closer to the Saudis than any other President in American History   The media drum beat against the Saudi and their own funded extremism, Wahhabism has ceased completely under Obama.

Bin Laden was a Saudi Sunni that followed Wahhabism for many years  Obama's father, the greatest influence on his world view, was a Sunni. Obama was a practing Sunni for part of his life and under Sunni Cannons Obama is a Sunni Muslim because his father was a Sunni Muslim.   In neither of his books had Obama reuted his Sunni beliefs, he said he felt more comfortable with the Christianity he found in Chicago, "Liberation Theology". A belief system quite close to his own father's "Anti-Colonial Third World Maoism."

Bin Laden's value as a source of information would been a huge trove for increasing the safety of the people in the US and for the Feds in helping it deal more effectively with terrorism, but the cost was far too high for too many people with power, most notably Soros,  Other "Money Managers" and Saudi Royal Family.

AQ came from the Muslim Brotherhood, allied with the NAZIs. After WW2, they were taken over by MI6 and then the CIA.

Osman (Bin Laden) was a CIA asset. If captured alive, we'd have 3 or 4 presidents in jail after he talked.

However, due to reasons I won't go into, I think he has been dead for a number of years. However, keeping him "alive" as The Boogeyman helped justify Imperial Bankster ambition and domestic Fascism.

Without seeing the video of the assult I would NOT assume the actions of the raid are correct. I deeply suspect there has been severe alterations of the real incident. I think the story about Bin Laden using his wife as a shield is made up, in order to serve as valid reason why Bin laden was killed on sight.

Its very likely the seal team has orders to kill him on sight. An alive Bin Laden is a political hot potato since information reflecting bad on the United states may come out, and addition terriorist groups might choose to take Americans has hostages and use them as leverage to demand Bin laden release. There are a thousand and one bad things that could occur if Bin Laden was kept alive. Also consider the trials of exsting Gitmo detainees that have not moved in 10+ years.

But hey, if it helps you sleep at night...

I don't find anything unexpected in Obama crowing about having 'killed' Osama Bin Laden last year (though Osama has been dead since 2001), or about Romney complaining the (dead) Osama should have been captured alive, for interrogation (about the plans of a subsidiary branch of the CIA.)

Such total lying bs and fake dialogue is to be expected from these people. To sum it up:

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false."

-- William Casey, Director of Central Intelligence. An observation by the late Director at his first staff meeting in 1981. This observation reveals the mentality of cynicism which infests the US Federal control structures, and the reality that these structures regard the American people with total contempt.

The best way to control people is to totally subvert their understanding of the reality around them. Then they will have no chance of ever effectively directing their own destiny.

What is very disappointing, is to see George Washington (who should know better) posting an article that accepts the Administration's fictional narative that Bin Laden was killed last year. Such a shame.

Look George, I know this is a chaotic mess, but here's a list of materials on Bin Laden, saved over the years. It's not exhaustive; for instance my files on all the real and fake B.L. videos are not included. And many links may be dead now - you know the drill, try searching for the title or quoted text. But do have a read:

  http://everist.org/archives/links/!_Osama_Bin_Laden_links.txt

  http://everist.org/archives/links/!_Obama_curious_series_of_events.htm

All the articles listed I have saved. Ask if you want a zipped copy.

(Edit: Darn, the link format breaks. Sorry. Fix manually.)

mmmmmmmmmmm. . .

the deepest truths are the most simple, deceptively simple.   so much truth in those words.

but "life" is all about peeling back the layers of awareness, not stopping at certain truths, but continuing to seek the greater truth.

your posts rarely disappoint TerraHertz!  plus many.

If they'd captured Bin Laden, he'd have repeated in US court what he's said many times after 9/11 about the reasons for the attack and he might also have further revealed through additional details about the attack how it was bureaucratic infighting and incompetence, not lack of assets, that prevented our already massive pre-9/11 intel complex from stopping the attack.

The fedgov wanted neither of those things.  They wanted to prevent any revisiting of 9/11 and their stupidity in not stopping it.
