The War On Terror Spreads to Africa: U.S. Sending Troops to 35 African Nations

George Washington's picture

The U.S. is sending troops to 35 African nations under the guise of fighting Al Qaeda and related terrorists.

Democracy Now notes:

U.S. Army teams will be deploying to as many as 35 African countries early next year for training programs and other operations as part of an increased Pentagon role in Africa. The move would see small teams of U.S. troops dispatched to countries with groups allegedly linked to al-Qaeda, such as Libya, Sudan, Algeria and Niger. The teams are from a U.S. brigade that has the capability to use drones for military operations in Africa if granted permission. The deployment could also potentially lay the groundwork for future U.S. military intervention in Africa.

NPR reports:

[A special American brigade] will be able to take part in nearly 100 separate training and military exercises next year, in nearly three dozen African countries

Glenn Ford writes:

The 2nd Brigade is scheduled to hold more than 100 military exercises in 35 countries, most of which have no al-Qaida presence. So, although there is no doubt that the U.S. will be deeply involved in the impending military operation in Mali, the 2nd Brigade’s deployment is a much larger assignment, aimed at making all of Africa a theater of U.S. military operations. The situation in Mali is simply a convenient, after-the-fact rationale for a long-planned expansion of the U.S. military footprint in Africa.

Timothy Alexander Guzman argues:

AFRICOM’s [the U.S. military's Africa command] goal is to eliminate China and other countries influence in the region.  Africa’s natural resources is another important element to consider because it includes oil, diamonds, copper, gold, iron, cobalt, uranium, bauxite, silver, petroleum, certain woods and tropical fruits.

In a must-watch interview, Dan Collins of the China Money Report agrees that the purpose of the deployment is to challenge China’s rising prominence in Africa:

(Indeed, the U.S. considers economic rivalry to be a basis for war).

In reality – as we’ve repeatedly noted – the U.S. sends in the military to fight “terrorists” in any country which has resources we want (and see this).

And the U.S. is not shy about backing our “mortal enemies” to topple those standing between us and resources we pine for.

Anthony Carlucci argues that the overthrow of Gaddafi (largely through American support of terrorists) was really the opening salvo in the war for African resources:

"The US spent a coupla trillion in Iraq but did not get ANY oil concessions"

Maybee not openly, but the usual suspects were quick to grab themselves a slice, all made possible by US/UK taxpayers and plenty of death and destruction.

so long as Iraq oil is controlled militarily and stays "petrodollar",

Think of the British or French deploying troops to colonies and principalities where they invested that were already lost to the sands of history because their economic power had been subsumed.

The military response is like the reflex reaction after the body has been hit by the train or the bite of the poisonous snake.

think of the British/French extending their fingers throughout the world via territories and banking - just because certain landmasses have been named differently doesn't necessarily mean they're not connected at higher levels.

it's like the "50" States, gathered under a "headquarters". . . in a District not even a part of the "nation" no less. . .

fascinating, hmm?

Somali Pirates Disclose They're A Goldman Sachs Subsidiary

A mosquito-boat’s worth of Somali pirates stunned the courtroom today when they disclosed their entire piracy enterprise was in fact a subsidiary of Goldman Sachs.

The pirate, who said he earned a bonus of $48 million in dubloons last year, elaborated on the nature of the Somalis’ work for Goldman, explaining that the pirates forcibly attacked ships that Goldman had already shorted…

We do have to learn to do more with less.  Maybe Zimbabwe will lead the way?  Once we learn how to live with hyper-inflation it should all be a snap.  Maybe make some more visits over there and learn how they survived their hyper-inflation...and drop off some care packages.

When it comes to practicing Americanism the Chinese are no slouches.

Chinese troops have been seen on the streets of Zimbabwe's third largest city, Mutare, according to local witnesses. They were seen patrolling with Zimbabwean soldiers before and during Tuesday's ill-fated general strike called by the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC).

Earlier, 10 Chinese soldiers armed with pistols checked in at the city's Holiday Inn along with 70 Zimbabwean troops.

Gotta love a song extolling the coolness of thrift shops. It reminds me of an occasion back in 1993 or 1994 when the band Ancient Chinese Penis* performed at the Mantis Gallery in Kent, Ohio. Earlier in the day, some friends of a friend took the band to a big thrift store in Cuyahoga Falls and, as I recall, they were dazzled by the spectacular fabulosity of it.

*Yes, that was the name of the band. They put on a good show, playing pseudo-punk with a humorous, exaggerated affectation of flamboyance. Toward the end of the show, they gradually stripped, and ended up playing their last two or three songs, including their signature tune, totally nude.

hahahhh, "spectacular fabulosity" - truth!

what I love about Macklemore is his honesty, and his heart - that and the fact that he's big DIYculture, right down to this debut album "The Heist" which is full of great beats AND lyrics, and they did it themselves, no major label ownership/fiat.

wouldn't put it past 'em to emulate the ACPenis at some point, 'cause they.  just. don't. care. !!

Anyone wanting potable water, food, shelter, clothing, medicine, education and employment fits the profile of a potential terrorist. Anyone who wants a ground-to-air instead of an air-to-ground economy in their nation or region is a threat. Anyone wishing to own a business instead of being an employee in a huge international corporate franchise is a potential terrorist.  Anyone who rebels against overarching patent and copyright treaties that not only patent the mouse trap but copyright the idea of trapping mice fits the profile. It will be difficult for the media to hide the major underlying economic component of the War On Terror in Africa as we come in direct conflict with the Chinese investment of their endless supply of U.S. paper in real wealth African resources and labor.

it will be interesting to see if the "media" even touch this as a subject - more likely there will be trrrrst stories at first to plant the meme, then full on ignoring of the subject, in favour of more circus, as the bread dwindles.
