I buy lithium-formulated batteries for use in my electric bicycle. It can takes weeks for them to be delivered because they have to be shipped from China (it's always China, always) by boat. Governments won't allow lithium batteries to be shipped via air freight because even if they are just sitting in a box there is the fear something can go wrong and they might catch fire in transit. Apparently it has happened enough times.
So why the fuck are they allowed to use (meaning charge and discharge) lithium batteries on a commercial jet?!?
BTW, I never have fires because I buy lithium batteries that use the stable Li-Fe-Po formulation. You don't want a fire to complicate your day when your electric bike gets run over by a car.

I didn't watch thank god, because I don't own a TV, thank god. That said I wonder how much oprah paid Lance for his appearance. There was lots of pre hype so there must have been some understanding of the ratings the show would generate. Who were the sponsors that paid the big bucks for the half-time commercials.
