Food Manufacturers are Fraudulently Diluting High-Quality Food with Inferior - Sometimes DANGEROUS - Quality Junk

George Washington's picture

Some of the Fake Ingredients Added to Food May be DANGEROUS

In a predictable trend, food manufacturers are fraudulently diluting high-quality food with inferior quality items.

As ABC News reports:

A new scientific examination by the non-profit food fraud detectives the U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention (USP), discovered rising numbers of fake ingredients in products from olive oil to spices to fruit juice.

"Food products are not always what they purport to be," Markus Lipp, senior director for Food Standards for the independent lab in Maryland, told ABC News.

In a new database to be released Wednesday, and obtained exclusively by ABC News today, USP warns consumers, the FDA and manufacturers that the amount of food fraud they found is up by 60 percent this year.

In addition, 70% of all ground beef  was found to contain "pink slime".

Butchers use "meat glue" to create "bigger" cuts of beef, chicken, lamb and fish, even though it leads to much higher levels of food poisoning:

British hamburgers were found to contain horse meat and pork ... and it could happen in the U.S. as well.

Indeed, modern red meat is arguably not really meat at all.

And selling genetically modified food without labeling them as such is arguably food fraud as well, since a large majority of Americans  want genetically modified foods to be labeled, genetically engineered foods have been linked to obesity, cancer, liver failure, infertility and all sorts of other diseases (brief videos here and here), and the Food and Drug Administration doesn't even test the safety of such foods.

Bad Policy Made Food Fraud Predictable

This trend was predictable because food manufacturers have been trying to hide food inflation in various ways.

The inflation in food prices, in turn, has been caused by quantitative easing - printed in an attempt to hide bank fraud - and the use of the printed money for wild speculation by the big banks has driven up food and related commodity prices.

And - instead of fighting for safer food - the Department of Justice and FDA often target whistleblowers and do everything they can to cover up wrongdoing. The Department of Agriculture is no better.  And the Feds are treating people who expose abuse in factory farms as potential errorists ... and the states want the same power.

Widespread food fraud is the predictable result.

Your assuming they can shoot acurately. I am thinking they are more like a Barney Fife shooter. That would explain the need for the huge sums of ammo they have purchased.

Around here, too many grew up shooting and hunting.

I do not know if these .gov wieners can sit in a tree stand four hours quietly, stalk, or shoot like we can with many years' experience. I got my first rifle when I was 10. Me and my buddies were shooting at 8 or 9.

Rabbits, squirrels, mmm mmmm good.

Maybe I will have a UN guy mounted above my fireplace next to the buck.

Try yer luck, yanquis.

A: Three thousand Italian sharpshooters.

I read about this elsewhere too.  I already cook all our food from scratch to avoid additives, but I can't even trust that single ingredient foods like OJ, ground spices and olive oil are what they say they are.  The world is going to hell.

I have read that a few years ago that some olive oils were found to contain other oils such as canola (rapeseed) which is almost all GMO now. I've also read that some spice companies irradiate their products to kill pests. The only way around this is to research the companies and pay more for their products.

Many  years ago our kid was born with an allergy to corn and corn products.  Sadly, we discovered that apple juice and orange juice would make him sick so we knew that the food manufacturers were creating fraudulent juices.  We asked the FDA to investigate.  They replied nicely that there was no real test for fake orange and apple juices.  We hunted around and found a HP analyzer that would detect corn syrup for about $12K.  We reported this back to the FDA and then from that time on they wouldn't answer our queries.  We alerted several Congressmen and there was nothing but a party line response.   It seems that Florida was full of plants manufacturing fake Orange juice from HFCS and wood pulp.  The fake apple juice was coming from China.  The government wasn't going to do anything about it because it's all about the $$$$.

China's also making chemical "honey". How do you tell it's chemical? When the honey is clear, it's all or part chemical. The "honey producers" filter what they make/sell to remove the pollen so you can't tell by analysis whether it's real honey or not. (Then they say "The consumers prefer clear honey." Unless removed, ALL natural honey has pollen in it and from that you can tell geographically exactly where it was made by the bees.)

Your best bet on getting natural honey is to A. buy from local producers and or B. buy NON-clear honey. (The non-clear may also have chemicals in it, but it is less likely to be ALL chemical) And if the honey company is a national brand, just assume it's part or all chemicals.

I understand that an additional advantage to buying locally made honey is that it helps you to overcome allergies caused by local pollen (aka "hay fever"). Can't verify this personally as I've never had pollen allergies.

The bird population decline may be due to the radiation coming over in the jetstreat from Fukushima. Plutonium and uranium aren't good for the birds that spend a good deal of time breathing hard at higher altitudes.

GCT.  Superb post.  If anyone wants to know the cost of what you're doing ask them what a few more years of life is worth to them.  I especially like the 18' freezer and picking your side of beef at a butchers.  You even get to tell them what cuts you want and help them wrap it.  And you even know what your dog will be eating from the leftover cuts.

Saw a report on this, I think ABC local affiliate, that this is happening in things like olive oil (throwing vegetable oil in the mix, 20%-30% in supposedly 100% Virgin) and lot's of high priced items where cutting in cheap fillers and maskers maximizes the profit.  Vinegars, salad dressings, sauces, you name it.

And of course the coffee blends being cut with more Robusta versus Arabica beans (as reported here on ZH); my Folgers has started to taste a little more bitter.

And, the story from the U.K. that horse meat was being blended into supposedly 100% beef burgers (http://www.thehorse.com/articles/31304/horsemeat-in-british-irish-hambur...).

I wouldn't doubt that toxic waste gets drizzled into shampoos, conditioners, and soaps.

Check out the MCRIB

What’s Inside a McDonald’s McRib Sandwich?

But what’s really inside the McRib specifically that makes it such a food abomination? Containing over 70 ingredients, the McRib is full of surprises — including ‘restructured meat’ technology that includes traditionally-discarded animal parts brought together to create a rib-like substance. Here’s some of the disturbing substances found within the McDonald’s McRib sandwich:

A flour-bleaching agent used in yoga mats

Out of the 70 ingredients that make up the ‘pork’ sandwich, a little-known flour-bleaching agent known as azodicarbonamide lies among them. At first glance, this strange ingredient sounds concerning enough to look into. After a little research, you will find that even mainstream media outlets have generated content revealing how azodicarbonamide is actually used in the production of foamed plastics. Foamed plastics like yoga mats and more.

What’s more? In Australia and Europe, the use of azodicarbonamide as a food additive is banned. In Singapore specifically, use of this substance in food can result in a $450,000 fine and 15 years in jail. Thank you McDonald’s for supplying the nation with such healthful ingredients.

‘Restructured Meat’ from Pig Heart, Tongue, Stomach

McDonald’s McRib is famous in some circles for utilizing what’s known as ‘restructured meat’ technology. Since McDonald’s knows you’d never eat a pig heart, tongue, or stomach on your plate, they decided instead to grind up these ingredients and put them into the form of a typical rib.
