- Cheney made Iraqi’s oil fields a national security priority before 9/11. And the Sunday Herald reported: “Five months before September 11, the US advocated using force against Iraq … to secure control of its oil.” (remember that Alan Greenspan, John McCain, George W. Bush, Sarah Palin, a high-level National Security Council officer and others all say that the Iraq war was really about oil.)
Indeed, neoconservatives planned regime change in Iraq – and throughout the Middle East and North Africa – 20 years ago.
The government tried to falsely blame the anthrax attacks on Iraq as a justification for war:

Iraq was about oil and that was clear as day before the war. What I can't figure out since then is what has transpired with US occupational forces and the oil contracts especially outside of the Kurd-controlled regions. US still has a large presence at the US embassy and with the small army of private contractors/mercenaries there but it certainly can't have turned out how Cheney and the neo-cons wanted.
What is about freeing up a large source of light sweet crude to keep the wheels or globalization moving along?
I'm sure you can find some people who benefited from the way it worked out; Saudia and Kuwait come to mind quickly. It's interesting, but I haven't done any real research about how many of the countries with large oil reserves are in lousy condition.
What we need here is the magic pill for everlasting life: we give it Rumsfeld, Cheney and Bush, put them naked in a cage next to the soon-to-be-built war memorial for ALL victims of their genocidal actions, then put three latrines (military style) on top of the cage; this, forever.
