Newly-Released Memo by Donald Rumsfeld Proves Iraq War Started On False Pretenses

George Washington's picture

Everyone knew that Iraq didn’t have weapons of mass destruction.

Indeed, Secretary of State Colin Powell’s chief of staff – Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson – just said that Powell knew that there were no WMDs:

I wonder what will happen when we put 500,000 troops into Iraq and comb the country from one end to the other and find nothing

(starting at 6:43 into video).

But war is sold just like soda or toothpaste … and so a false justification also needs to be concocted.  George W. BushJohn McCain, Sarah Palin, a high-level National Security Council officer, Alan Greenspan and others all say that the Iraq war was reallyabout oil.

It has been extensively documented that the White House decided to invade Iraq before 9/11:

Indeed, neoconservatives planned regime change .

The government tried to falsely blame the anthrax attacks on Iraq as a justification for war:

When Congress was originally asked to pass the Patriot Act in late 2001, the anthrax attacks which occurred only weeks earlier were falsely blamed on spooky Arabs as a way to scare Congress members into approving the bill. Specifically:

And:

George Bush throughout 2002 routinely featured “anthrax” as one of Saddam’s scary weapons.

Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, President Bush and VP Cheney all falsely linked Iraq with 9/11 … and the entire torture program was aimed at establishing such a false linkage.

A new book by NBC News and Newsweek investigative reporter Michael Isikoff adds details, including a memo written by Rumsfeld in November 2001 – a year and a quarter   before the start of the Iraq war – asking how to start a war against Iraq, and suggesting as one potential “justification” for war:

  • How start?

***

US discovers Saddam connection to Sept. 11 attack or to anthrax?

The Bush administration launched the Iraq war under false pretenses … unfortunately, Obama is no better.

The policy wonks in Washington were openly having the debate on how to capitalize on the vacuum created by the collapse of the USSR in Washington in the early 90's, most observers probably lost interest when the politicians rolled out "peace dividend" or shifted their focus to how they could get themselves a piece of that peace dividend...  Apparently Gen Clark is just as ignorant as everyone else who wasn't keeping a watchful eye on the usual evil schemers in Washington (since he was brown-nosing the brown-shirts in Brussels) at the time, but in fairness it must have required a huge effort and a lot of time to come up with that mountain of BS that he uses to cover his atrocities in eastern Europe.

These political arseholes only admit fault and misdoing well after the fact. Proves further that "errors in judgement" are not the result of incompetence but intentional. There are no mistakes, just motives.

IRAQ + OIL + GOLD = $USD

Insert LIBYA, IRAN, SYRIA and get the same result.

On that note, what happened to the Iraqi and Libyan gold and why isn't anyone asking for fucks sake????

Some Kurds, if they were still alive, would disagree with this premise. Over 250,000 Kurds died from Saddam's gas attack.

If that wasn't a weapon of mass destruction, what was it?

Iran Iraq war and collateral to that the Kurd uprising...Saddam was a despot with an agenda set by Saud/ USA : go get Khomeiny...in 1980.

The next 10 years were his botched up legacy to that mayhem; entirely concocted by Saud/USA/Saddam front which went nowhere except divide IRaq into three communities and impoverish its coffers; making his back lash in Kuwait inevitable, for a corrupt TREx who wanted his cake.

From then on it was BLOOD fued between EX allies : Bush Family+Saud vs Saddam; now mortal enemies.

When thieves fall out....

Now the IRan issue has become vital to the new triumvirate of ME hegemony : USA+Saud+Israel.

Not saying that Ayahtollah clique is saviour of the world; far from it, it is a noose around Irani people's necks.

But there is a pecking order in predatory talents.

Ain't we always going the same road to protect the ME oil patch for west?

It also had the benefit of reducing the number of Kurds that would be supported by the oil in the north.  Plus the additional benefit of help out America's good NATO ally, Turkey get their "problem" reduced in size.  The neo-conmen wanted the Kurds dead too.  This way they could claim to be on the Kurd's side while they secretly aided in killing lots of them.

yesterday's news, although having some written confirmation is somehow satisfying. in order for 9/11 to come together it required bad luck and bad policy on both sides. after reelection Clinton moved to the middle. he gave GOP members a committment to the No Fly Zone in Iraq, which the military escalated (not certain how many women and children we killed in Iraq during Clinton's second term, there were quite a few, through starvation, lack of medicine, all through infrastructure our military jets were taking out). after they caught Clinton in an affair, the GOP virtually closed off all avenues of compromise, even in those matters which seemed to support their hawkish views. when Clinton went to them to get their [tacit] approval to launch an attack on Bin Ladens training camp, THEY DEMURED.

Al Gore moonwalked out of the White House, by refusing to contest the election in Florida, most experts agree he won the election in 2000. third year into his first term the american public sees Geo Bush as a WIMP. China took our spy plane and mailed it home in pieces, right afterward Bush gave them WTO. Bin Laden was making radio announcements. Bush was destined to be the worst one term president ever. the economy dived off a ladder the day of the inauguration, and never looked back.

then came Iraq (we had to save the Kurds, Hussein gassed the Kurds!! at the end of the Iraq war Bush said "The KURDS are the enemy.."

by 2008 the Bush economic plan was a complete disaster. and with the House, most of the Senate and SCOTUS in the hands of one party. who do you blame? corruption is epidemic. you know the rest, Bernanke and Paulson bail out the thieves, Obama comes into office and bails out Bernanke and Paulsen. and the lies Obama tells boggle my mind, considering the miserable state of politics since LBJ had JFK go DOA.

but you know put the pieces in place, its long slow work. we all know the last chapter.

Like be cool!  Things are never what they seem to be. There's usually a lot of stuff working that we'll never know about and circumstances that we can't guess.  And you never know who's lying to you, and who's doing a psycho drama on you to get you to do something stupid.  As for Rummy, who would not have guessed?

If we keep our heads and keep alert, then we will be able to turn this around.

My favorite though was his private support for his lesbian daughter and his public condemnation earlier his career and largely silence later in his career for anything related to homosexual rights.

Just like how he got deferrement after deferrement from the Vietnam draft due to his bad feet.  Easy to send men to die and talk tough when you never had to face the enemy yourself.

One of the few US politicians of the past 30 years that I generally despise and makes me so angry I have to turn off the TV/radio if I hear him speak.

There was a time in the United States when LESS EVIDENCE than what has been shown so far would have been a certain indictment and likely conviction for TREASON/SEDITION, with capital punishment being the most probable outcome of that conviction.

The Republic as it had been known for nearly 240 years, with what was once a vigorous and truly independent judiciary branch of government, IS DEAD.

Iraq was about oil and that was clear as day before the war.  What I can't figure out since then is what has transpired with US occupational forces and the oil contracts especially outside of the Kurd-controlled regions.  US still has a large presence at the US embassy and with the small army of private contractors/mercenaries there but it certainly can't have turned out how Cheney and the neo-cons wanted.

What is about freeing up a large source of light sweet crude to keep the wheels or globalization moving along?

I'm sure you can find some people who benefited from the way it worked out; Saudia and Kuwait come to mind quickly. It's interesting, but I haven't done any real research about how many of the countries with large oil reserves are in lousy condition.

What we need here is the magic pill for everlasting life: we give it Rumsfeld, Cheney and Bush, put them naked in a cage next to the soon-to-be-built war memorial for ALL victims of their genocidal actions, then put three latrines (military style) on top of the cage; this, forever.

interesting that new revelations in the Chandra Levy murder (alleged to be an intern to Gary Condit early 2000) now indicate she was an intern at Fed Bureau of Prisons, where according some spec at Rense.com, she interviewed, or knew something about Tim McVeigh (JudyWoods second reference) . Levy was killed a few months before 9/11 by a Salvadoran gang member while jogging in the park (coincidence some other Salvadoran immigrants were contacts for two of the hijackers, days before the 9/11 attack, the two hijackers who came into the country on the west coast, met an Immam?sp? in SD and then went to Las Vegas where they were in trouble for gambling drinking and whoring around - the Imman was later drone killed in Yemen. he was a US citizen.)  one out of left field idea is that these terrorists have knowledge of cold fusion, have made some crude attempts, but lack any financial backing or the intelligence to really pull it off, since the scientific community has basically blown the cold fusion thing off, there are no restrictions on the technology as it exists.

The terrorists who conceived of & orchestrated 9/11 are white men in business suits, using Muslims as patsies (the 21st century boogeymen, replacing the Communists to falsely fear now) to garner Americans' support for future, post-9/11 endeavors into the Middle East and Africa, all pre-planned prior to 9/11. PNAC neocon origins but working under the banskters at the top? Occupations/wars not just for pipelines and control of valuable resources like oil, gas & minerals, but to prevent the collapse of the dollar, petrodollar? Losing, they are.

Desperate men do desperate, inconceivable things.
