2 Year Anniversary of Fukushima: The Accident Is NOT Contained
Nuclear expert Arnie Gundersen said today that the containment vessel at Fukushima reactor 2 has a large crack in it. Reactors 1, 2 and 3 all exploded. BBC reports today:
They know very little about what’s going on inside Reactors 1, 2, and 3 [...] They don’t really know what the state of the reactor core is.
Indeed, there is no containment at Fukushima.
Large quantities of radiation are still leaking into the Pacific Ocean. And see this.
The operator of the Fukushima plants says it's "impossible" to keep storing radioactive water in tanks, and Tepco will need to intentionally dump it into the ocean.
The area around Fukushima has become so contaminated that even the trees are radioactive.
And Tokyo is almost as irradiated as Fukushima.
Agence France-Presse notes:
Beach walkers are likely to encounter a disturbing but relentless flow of flotsam [from Japan] for years to come.
American sailors were exposed to massive doses of radiation. Conditions were so bad that they considered suicide. Many of these good men and women are now really sick. More here, here and here. (But both the Japanese and American governments have abandoned them.)
Tepco might not even meaningfully start working to decommission the plants until the radiation level drops ... decades from now (Or until the technology exists to clean it up.)
It has now been officially admitted that the accident was caused by collusion between the government and nuclear industry.
A worker at the Fukushima nuclear plan succinctly notes:
Even an elementary-school kid knows TEPCO always lies.
***
We have been fooled by the government ...
We don't mean to pick on Japan. After all, the American government is dictating nuclear policy in Japan. American reactors are even more dangerous than Fukushima. And a secret report confirms that Southern California Edison knew of major problems at the San Onofre nuclear plant ... but let the slipshod expansion and remodeling project continue anyway.

How many with leukemia?
I just wrapped up the first day of Dr. Caldicott's symposium on Fukushima at the two year mark. Here's a sample of child thyroid cancer numbers:
44% of children in the greater Fukushima area have thyroid nodules, and climbing. 25% of children with thyroid nodules will develop malignant cancer, under 'normal' circumstances.
Take a target cluster of 5,000,000 children. 44% equals 2,200,000 children with thyroid nodules. 25% of that equals 550,000 children with thyroid cancer. 11% of children exposed to Fukushima radiation levels will develop thyroid cancer, to date, and both those percentages are climbing fast. Millions of cancers just in kids' throats within a couple of years. The magnitude of this is colossal. You can imagine 50 million mothers in the US finding this out, as the radiation levels here start to go ballistic. And good luck getting care for their children under Obamacare.
This isn't something Ben can print his way out of.
How many with super powers?
So evil it funny +1
It looks like we will just have to deal with some of these little consequences of government and corporate ineptitude.
It’s just a good thing we don’t have to worry about the 1500 tons of seething radioactivity that is suspended in a big swimming pool at the top of a tilting building 100 feet above the ground at number 4.
It is more or less secure from spilling out unless a shaker above 6.9 or so was to occur.
And what are the odds of that happening in an area as seismologically benign as this place?
"It looks like we will just have to deal with some of these little consequences of government and corporate ineptitude."
Not necessarily:

"It is more or less secure from spilling out unless a shaker above 6.9 or so was to occur"
Remove 'unless'.....insert 'until'.
Current speculation is that #4 SPF blew early on, fire took what was left and it's all in the atmosphere now. Nobody can prove it's still full, nobody can prove it's empty.
Trust TEPCO?
hold the fucking phone....a woman who could get on that same stage with the spring break chick and generate just as much or an even louder response from the men, yes you know who im talking about......hillary, said that we dont even have to check the food, its a non-issue....now are you asking me to beleive she lied?.....wtf
Arnie Gunderson said she signed a treaty with Japan and Canada to not test anything. And I wouldn't call Arnie a liar over this.
GW's blog entry on that is a shocker.
Where is place Nukushima?
