Thanks William. I always appreciate your work. I always enjoyed my walks along the Bund at night in Shanghai. The view of Pudong is spectacular. The Huangpu River will never be the same to me now.
If you knew Jazz and Blues Bar back when it was on Mao Ming Lu, I played there several times. ;-)
Been their a few times. Lots of expats. Liked it better before it moved to the two story building. Had a certain seediness to it before they went upscale. I remember one night, a beautiful Australian girl was singing torch songs accompanied by an American sax player. Very cool place.
That was a unique 'Wild West" period in Shanghai. It's all gone now.
agreed... the city once had real character... now, like most of the world, sterilized beyond recognition. I was first there in 1994, before modernization really began there... if you recall, Shanghai was held back from development until relatively later than other cities... such was the distrust for what the city formerly was.
They have torn down all the old parts of Shanghai and Beijing at an unbelievably feverish pace.
I have a hard drive full of street photos which I am sure will be worth something someday.
