Even Democratic Party Loyalists Starting to Wake Up to the Fact that Obama Is As Bad As Bush … Or Worse

George Washington's picture

Glenn Greenwald notes that even Democratic party loyalists are getting fed up with Obama’s Bush-like actions:

Even the most loyal establishment Democrats are now harshly denouncing the president for his war on transparency ….

This secrecy has become so oppressive and extreme that even the most faithful Democratic operatives are now angrily exploding with public denunciations.

(Greenwald gives numerous examples.)

The Hill reported last month:

A majority of voters believe President Obama has been no better than his immediate predecessor, President George W. Bush, when it comes to balancing national security with the protection of civil liberties, according to a new poll for The Hill.

Thirty-seven percent of voters argue that Obama has been worse than Bush while 15 percent say he has been “about the same.” [In other words, a total of 52% think Obama is just as bad as Bush. That was before the drone controversy - discussed below - went viral.]

***

The results cannot be fully explained as party line responses. More than one in five self-identified Democrats, 21 percent, assert that the Obama administration has not improved upon Bush’s record. So do 23 percent of liberals.

Indeed, more and more Democrats are waking up the fact that Obama is doing a lot of the same stuff Bush did.

Bush was a horrible president. His warmongering, disrespect for civil liberties, redistribution of wealth from the poor and middle class to the super-elite, and obsession for secrecy were all abysmal.

But how does Obama stack up by objective measurements?

Let’s compare …

Favoring the Super-Elite the Expense of Everyone Else

Income inequality has increased more under Obama than under Bush.

Under Obama, the richest Americans have captured more than 100% of all income gains (and see this).

Liberal Nobel prize economist Joseph Stiglitz said in 2009 that Obama’s toxic asset plan “amounts to robbery of the American people”.

Bailing Out the Big Banks

While everyone knows about the $700 billion “Tarp” bailout which started under Bush, a top banking analyst puts the current bailouts under Obama at more than $780 billion each year. (Background here.)

Protecting Financial Criminals

Obama has prosecuted fewer financial crimes than President Reagan, Clinton or either of the Bush presidents.

Obama’s chief law enforcement officer – the Attorney General of the United States – has publicly stated that he won’t go after big banks.

Targeting Whistleblowers

Obama has prosecuted more whistleblowers than all other presidents combined.

Obama – even more than Bush – is protecting criminal activity by prosecuting and harassing whistleblowers.

Indeed, the Obama administration is are literally treating whistleblowers as terrorists.

Using Government Secrecy

In March 2010, AP documented that – under Obama – 17 major agencies were 50 percent more likely to deny freedom of information requests than under Bush.

An ACLU staff attorney puts it:

In some ways, the Obama administration is actually even more aggressive on secrecy than the Bush administration.

A new AP investigation published last week shows that the Obama administration has recently become more secretive than ever.

Trampling Liberties and the Constitution

Liberals rightfully hate Bush for trampling liberties. Bush even called the Constitution a “God Damn Piece of Paper”.

But Obama has gone much further than Bush ever did by:

(1) Declaring the right to assassinate Americans living on U.S. soil (no … this was never disclaimed) without any due process of law

(2) Declaring that he can indefinitely detain Americans on U.S. soil without any due process of law

(3) Spying on Americans more widely than Bush (the former head of the National Security Agency’s global digital data gathering program – William Binney – says that he pervasiveness of spying under Obama has only “gotten worse”)

(4) Bush destroyed much of the separation of powers which made our country great. Under Obama, it’s gotten worse. For example, the agency which decides who should be killed by drone is the same agency which spies on all Americans

(5) Otherwise shredding the Bill of Rights

Starting Military Conflicts In New Countries

Liberals rightfully lambast Bush for getting us into the disastrous Iraq war.

But Obama has in fact launched wars in Libya, Syria, Yemen, Pakistan … and up to 35 African nations (and see this).

Obama – citing a Nixon administration official’s justification for invading Cambodia – has claimed his power extends into every country in the world … well beyond those where we are engaged in hostilities.

Obama has dramatically escalated the use of drone assassinations, which are  creating many more terrorists than they are killing.  The former chief military prosecutor at Guantanamo says that Obama’s drone surge is as damaging to our country as Bush’s torture program. I think he’s actually underestimating damage from the program, as drones have become the number 1 recruiting tool for Al Qaeda (especially since children are now being targeted for drone assassination … Oh, and torture is still happening on Obama’s watch; background).

And the Obama administration has probably supported even more terrorists – in Libya, Syria and elsewhere – than Bush. See this, this, this, this and this.

George, read your 911 article comments - comparing Bush and Obama is as absurd as comparing Ted Bundy's right hand and left hand.

Stop being subservient to the establishment's false narrative.

The establishment can only guide your mind down false paradigms if you aren't actively involved in deciphering reality apart from their false narratives.

OBAMA AND BUSH ARE THE EXACT SAME THING!

They are both puppets of Biggest Finance Capital - the debt money definers and debt money controllers.

Debt Money Tyranny

If you don't believe this, go ahead and make an argument it isn't an accurate view of REALITY!

I welcome questioning because it sharpens my understanding of reality.

The only dog I have in the hunt is to understand reality.

I understand your point. Leaving the Red/Blue Paradigm is difficult for many. That seems to be that it includes you.

The message that I garnered from Washington's Blog was different than the message that you received. He was REPORTING that those whom are still in the False Paradigm are the ones whom are disillusioned, the Democrats in this case.

He then reported THEIR reasons for THEIR disillusionment.

Nowhere did I discern that he was expressing his own personal disillusionment.

Now perhaps I am mistaken. Perhaps he made a comment that I did not catch.

There is a difference between reporting and supporting.

Because I report does not necessarily mean that I support that which I am reporting about.

For instance I will report that I believe that a War with Iran is imminent.

I will also report that many will agree that the War in Iraq was worth the costs.

Of course when you consider that it would have dethroned the US Dollar as the World's Reserve Currency to have allowed Hussein to trade Oil for Euros; and; subsequently destroyed the American way of life then you may agree that it was worth it.

But because I report that many will agree that the War in Iraq was worth the costs does not mean that I agree.

And just because I report that a war with Iran is imminent does not mean that I agree with a war wiith Iran.

And just because I am reporting that I may not agree with it does not mean that may I disagree with it.

I am reporting. That is all.

Reporting is a noncommital action.

However Editorializing is.

I read Washington's Blog as a report. Did you read it as an Editorial?

Hi Tall Tom, I can see your point.  I can also see where you are probably right as far as Washington's perception.  I think he probably does know the two party system is fake.

However, he blew it by not making the most important and relevant point in the article.

He entered the Matrix and never left it...  and assumed people in the Matrix would figure it out?

It doesn't make sense to me.

IMHO, reporters should report the truth, first and foremost.

If a boxing match is rigged and a reporter only reports on the events in the ring as though it wasn't rigged and doesn't explain how it is rigged - even though he knows - he's doing a disservice to his reader, IMHO.

I like Washington's blog and want him to keep cranking out the good articles.

But I also know that until society defines the real Big Bad, we are cluster f*ed as a nation.  It is well passed time to dance around the big white elephant that is stomping on the building that contains the room.

I totally agree that attempting to learn more of the actual social facts appears to be a situation in which there is All Risk No Reward!

"The only dog I have in the hunt is to understand reality."  There appears to be no rewards, but only risks, from doing that, since it turns out that the social reality is that Obama symbolizes a bankster controlled government that is criminally insane, whose insanities have been amplified trillions of times by technologies.

There are barely any useful metaphors to understand what happens after the social pyramid system becomes amplified to astronomical sizes, since nothing in previous human history compares very well with what is happening after progress in science is applied to drive legalized lies, backed by legalized violence, up into orbit around the dark side of the moon.

But nevertheless, here are a few metaphors, with some poetic licence, and maybe poetic justice, to try to understand how the future may be recycling the past.

First, it looks like the transnational banksters are planning to do to America in the 21st Century what they did to Russia in the 20th.

Second, it then looks like the future of most Americans is going to be like going backwards, first into becoming like the history of African Americans, run in reverse, to then become like the history of Native Americans.

That is, more Americans will be treated like slaves, and find that they are going to be treated like enslaved niggers. Next, Americans will be treated like native Americans. They will be driven onto reservations, and then democidally exterminated. (Perhaps, after all of that, the survivors will finally emerge to a better world, but probably only after all of that ???)

Third, the monetary system is a deliberately overcomplicated state religion, run by religious nuts. It is difficult to understand, because it was so deliberately overcomplicated, and tangled up with jargon mumbo jumbo. However, to understand the psychotic breakdown of that system of force backed frauds, consider a much simpler example of legalized lies, backed by legalized violence: pot prohibition.

Pot prohibition is the single simplest symbol and most extreme example of everything else that the American government has done. Again, we notice that Obama was a professional liar in that respect, where everything he said during his campaigns turned out to be the opposite to what actually was done after he became President.

Right now, we have been waiting for more than 4 months to see what Obama's Justice Department is going to do about the 2 referenda in Washington state and Colorado, that sort of "legalized marijuana." ... I like to maintain as much irrational hope as I can, although I can find no good reasons to have any reasonable hope for the future.

Anyway, to repeat my main point: It was BECAUSE hemp is the best plant on the planet for people, for food, fiber, fun and medicine that the law asserted "marijuana is almost as bad as murder," and has enforced that huge lie with more and more violence, for decade after decade. Despite the FACT that cannabis has never killed anyone, because there is no possible fatal overdose, the laws were based on the "reefer madness" propaganda that "marijuana was an addictive narcotic, that drove people criminally insane, before it killed them."

Pot prohibition illustrates the central social fact that we are living inside of a Bizarro Mirror World, where everything is backwards and distorted. Everything the Obama administration does follows that general pattern! The Federal Government of the USA became totally controlled by the transnational banksters, and therefore, that government became criminally insane. The fact that the single best plant on the planet for people would be transformed by legalized lies, and legalized violence, into being something that would be treated as is "marijuana, which is almost as bad as murder," and that that still gets WORSE, FASTER, TODAY, illustrates everything else that is happening in all other areas of domestic and foreign affairs.

Of course, I would like to day dream that the Obama administration will respect and allow the results of the referenda in Washington state and Colorado to be implemented. However, the past has made me expect that the Federal Government will continue to do everything it can to prevent and undermine that.

Remember that the first American Flag, and the Bill of Rights, were made out of hemp. That symbolizes everything else. Hemp was rebranded as "marijuana," and through that propaganda all cannabis cultivation was criminalized. What the Obama administration does with respect to hemp is a leading symbol of everything else it is doing. Therefore, one may hope that the will of the people in Washington state, and Colorado, will be respected. However, at the present time that looks like an irrational hope, given the overall context.

Obama is a President who embodies the paradoxes of being simultaneously both the greatest foreign and domestic enemy of the American Constitution. Obama is the Commander in Chief of criminal insanity.

Radical MJ,

I'd like to put forth a couple thoughts for you and others to ruminate upon:

1. I would put forth that their are rewards to understanding reality, but they aren't the "feel good" kind of rewards.  Rather, they are the "oh my, I'm glad my bank account didn't disappear over night or I wasn't fully invested when the stock market closed" kind of "reward."  So, yeah, it still sucks.

2. We've been slaves this whole time - the system did a magnificent job of manipulating our perception.  As was stated in The story of Your Enslavement

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xbp6umQT58A&playnext=1&list=PL70BDDF8810...

He has two versions of that video and one says something to the effect of, "the step that follows 'free range' isn't freedom" when talking about raising chickens.  The step after "free range" humanity ain't freedom.

The veil of slavery will be revealed and the goodies that we were led to believe were controlled by us will be taken from us, further revealing our slavery.

3. Preparing for devolution is on the minds of intelligent people.  I don't know how it all plays out, but I can't imagine it being anywhere close to a pleasant process EVEN IF SOMEONE PREPARES PERFECTLY.  The destitution that surrounds people will overwhelm even the most prepared.

4. Marijuana, or hemp, has been the target of one of the largest Biggest Finance Capital propaganda efforts ever mounted.  This begs the question...  why?  How do they profit?  Is hemp oil really a cancer mitigator?  Is hemp a free replacement for huge swaths of Big Finance Capital's Pharma Division? Could the police state and the assault on human liberty and private property have advanced as quickly if marijuana was decriminalized?  Anecdotal evidence indicates that hemp might have a lot of very beneficial and properties that would hurt the monopolies of Big Pharma.

5. The UN is already exerting is Big Finance Capital financed "authority" to squish the peons in Washington and Colorado.

http://beforeitsnews.com/alternative/2013/03/un-treaty-supersedes-mariju...

Note that UN doesn't do anything about the criminals running the US government growing more marijuana and heroin poppies in Afghanistan or the government arming the drug cartels.  The UN doesn't make a big huff when the mega banks launder trillions in drug money, including running the transport airplanes, get caught and only the whistleblower gets sacked.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/apr/03/us-bank-mexico-drug-gangs

Let me ask the the question that is the elephant stomping the chit out the entire building that contains the room.

WHERE TH F* IS THE DRUG LAUNDERED MONEY AND WHY THE F* WASN'T IT REPORTED RECOVERED?

OK, two questions.

Well, I know where the drug money is - in the hands of the Big Finance Capital criminals who run the mega drug cartels (the war no drugs is a war on their competition), the mega banks and the mega governments.

6. Obama isn't "commander in chief."  He's a chump - he has less freedom than do you or I.  I can seek the truth and express it.  Not Obama.  The minute he makes the decision to be a decent human being, he's finished.

7. The world makes a lot of sense.  The most sophisticated criminals are using the highest level of science, including pharmaceutical, chemical and psychological knowledge to manipulate humanity and f* them up in such a way that doesn't alarm the masses untul it is too late.

8. The system **hates** hemp because it is good for society and bad for Big Finance Capital.  That's why they hate people like me, but they don't need to shut people like me up because my fellow citizens are programmed so thick they can't even begin to understand what is so obvious.  There is some kind of psychological wall that people erect - and it will fall on them and bust them up good in due time.

Those I've warned will, no doubt, blame me for telling them the truth they ignored and not the criminals who lied to them and abused them.

I don't care - I try and do good even if the majority of people are so bassakwards they think evil is good and good is evil.

The Drug Enforcement Agency is named that for a reason. It exists to enforce Drugs upon the Muppets.

Notice that it is not called the Drug Eradication Agency.

It is like the Center for Disease Control and Eradication is now known as that. Beforehand, when they were the Center for Disease Control their mission was to Control Diseases and NOT eradicate diseases. The eradication of disease would cost the Physicians lots of Dollars. This in turn costs the Government Tax Revenue. .

So they continue, to this day, to infect the Currency Supply with Pathogens as it is the easiest method of delivering Disease to a wide assortment of the Population. Do you like the fact that the Flu Vaccine has been specifically engineered to protect for the Strains of Influenza which the CDC forecasts? Just how do they know what strain will become epidemic unless...THEY ARE BREEDING THE STRAINS? It is not an action of Dumb Luck. DON'T YOU THINK?

They breed the strains to produce the vaccines. There is no denying that. DON'T YOU THINK?

When their mission changed then so did their name.

The DEA exists so that you WILL smoke Marijuana. That is their intent that you do. We did not have a Real Drug Problem in this Nation until after the Bureau of Narcotics was created by Anslinger back in the late 1930's

They engineered the problem just as the CDC engineers the annual Flu Bugs that infect us.

It is the same tactic that is employed. Create a Crisis. Then create Mass Hysteria so that people demand a solution from the Government. Then implement the solution.

Oh my God there are too many people getting sick from the Flu. (Of course what you don't know is that we created these Bugs.) Here is a solution. We will have vaccination shots...for a small fee of course.  That will alleviate it.

Well they want you to smoke Pot. That way you are so much easier to manipulate in your Drug Induced Stupor.

Hi TT,

We are on the same page.

1. Biggest Finance Capital lobbies to keep drugs, even minor ones, illegal and punishments harsh after their success in the Opium Wars.

2. Biggest Finance Capital lobbies and creates a massive private prison complex.

3. Biggest Finance Capital (BFC) uses their US government chess piece to secure Afghanistant to, in part, lead world production in both heroin poppies and marijuana.

4. 7,700 tons of heroinn is flowing from Afghanistan every single year - and isn't under American radar on the bank of donkeys traveling through Pakistan, if you know what I mean.

5. Biggest Finance Capital uses their US government chess piece to allow the cartels they control to bring cocaine into the US for "information" and arms the drug cartels via Fast and Furious (BFC operative Obama) and Operation Wide Receiver (BFC operative Bush).

6. BFC's mega banks launder the trillions in drug money and the controlled government doesn't criminally charge the people doing the money laundering.  In the case of Wachovia, the people at the bank leased the drug running planes.  No problem.  Pay a small fine, it's all good.

7. The laundered money is never reported recovered - even though they all know exactly where it is.  BFC runs the drugs in order to profit - their operative controlled government provides the cover for them to do this.

8. BFC lobbies their operatives in government to use the "drug war" (on their competition) as a pretext to set up a police state, justify busting down the doors of private citizens' homes, confiscating private proporty, shaking down millions of people a year and otherwise assaulting civil liberties and personal freedom as much as possible.  Of course, BFC and their corporate fronts and minions are exempt from these measures.

9. BFC rakes in billions from filling up their private, for profit prison complex.  The more drugs they can bring in the United States and Europe, the more money they make.

Watch Cocaine Cowboys on Netflix - the main character mentions his millions he had stored down in Nicaragua, but while he was in prison the BFC's US government front invaded and his bank account disappeared.

The criminals running the prima facia debt money fraud are also the criminals running the drugs, just like they did in the Opium Wars against the Chinese.  Back then they used the East India Company to lead the charge and they, no doubt, use their corporate fronts as part of their money laundering and drug running operations in addition to the US government they control.

Despite having physical similarities to Bambi i'd feel mighty insulted to be accused of sharing his murderous aptitude, moral shortcomings and super pack fraud deals. likely i have missed out one or more negative character traits of the man but opportunist possibly, maybe, best sums him up.

Terrorism and the war on terror is the ultimate dictatorial tool. The title alone in an Orwellian masterpiece. The definitons, the boundaries, the geography, the emergency exceptions to constitutional limits, and the chronological length are infinite. Nothing else is a better confession from our government that it knows the shit is hitting the fan and it needs a fall guy and frightenend citizens to take from us, con us, literally turn on us, and keep us under control.

Or Worse....? He did nothing to change the rot and even prolonged it; granted.

But he is not Caligula, more his successor Claudius...

Gong overboard there IMO. But his current tenure is NOT over, i'll grant you that!

I am a democrat/liberal, and I agree with this assessment.  Note that I supported OBama, started a web page for him in 2008, signs in front yard, bumper stickers, tears of joy...I was wrong.  You are too.  This is not the democratic party I know.

I do not think that he understands that the Red Team and Blue Team are better labeled as Squads of the Same SOCIALIST Team.

It is so hard to awaken the muppets. Is it in the Water? Or is it a Subliminal Signal broadcast by their Television Sets that induces the hypnosis? Whatever it is the power behind the hypnotic agent is extremely powerful and, I believe, designed to be addictive.
