No, North Korea Will NOT Start a Nuclear War Tomorrow
It’s easy to make jokes about North Korea. For example, the following 2 photos show the entire North Korean navy:

And this photo shows the North Korean army showing of their entire collection of weapons:

But North Korea’s threat to launch a test missile over Japan tomorrow has raised tensions substantially.
Does this mean nuclear war?
No.
Initially, both Japan and the U.S. are deploying missile defense systems which can shoot down any missiles which North Korea aims at Japan, South Korea or the U.S.
Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel is a steady hand. As long as he is in control of the American response, things hopefully won't spiral out of control from the American side.
Moreover, as crazy as North Korea's threats are, they are arguably in response to massive U.S. and South Korean war games ... which simulate a nuclear attack on North Korea.
As the Wall Street Journal reported last month:
Some U.S. officials argued that the bomber flights would be unduly provocative and akin to recent North Korean actions, which these officials said have irresponsibly ratcheted up tensions. Defense officials acknowledged that North Korean military officers are particularly agitated by bomber flights because of memories of the destruction wrought from the air during the Korean War. [The United States Air Force demolished every target over one story during the Korean War. It also dropped more napalm than it did later in Vietnam.]
***
U.S. officials said they didn't believe North Korea could detect the approach of the B-2s but couldn't be certain. They noted that once the bombers passed over the Korean peninsula, they were no longer trying to hide their presence.
"We could fly it at night, but the point was for them to see it," said a U.S. defense official.
The Journal reported this week:
After a high-visibility display of military power aimed at deterring North Korean provocations, the White House is dialing back the aggressive posture amid fears that it could inadvertently trigger an even deeper crisis, according to U.S. officials.
The U.S. is putting a pause to what several officials described as a step-by-step plan the Obama administration approved earlier this year, dubbed “the playbook,” that laid out the sequence and publicity plans for U.S. shows of force during annual war games with South Korea. The playbook included well-publicized flights in recent weeks near North Korea by nuclear-capable B-52 and stealth B-2 bombers, as well as advanced F-22 warplanes.
The U.S. stepped back from the plans this week, as U.S. officials began to worry that the North, which has a small nuclear arsenal and an unpredictable new leader, may be more provoked than the U.S. had intended, the officials said.
“The concern was that we were heightening the prospect of misperceptions on the part of the North Koreans, and that that could lead to miscalculations,” a senior administration official said.
We are not defending the North Koreans. The leadership lives an extremely lavish lifestyle, while most of the North Korean people are starving.
And the North Koreans are out of line threatening nuclear attack, and ending the peace treaty with South Korea
But given that the U.S. carried out preemptive war on Iraq, took out Libya's Gaddafi, is in the process of taking out Syria's leader, and has long branded North Korea as part of the "Axis of Evil" - and that North Korea has just undergone a transition of power and has a very young leader - many believe that North Korea is acting "mad dog crazy" to try to prevent an invasion by the U.S. ... and that tensions will recede as soon as the annual American-South Korean war games are over.
Like the small dog that rushes up and bites the ankle of the big dog to scare him away - because he is terrified of a real fight - North Korea is bluffing.
Postscript: Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel is a steady hand. As long as he is in control of the American response - rather than people who might have other agendas (and see this) - things hopefully won't spiral out of control from the American side.

+1 "clickbaiter"
Well played. Watch the GW cultists descend with their anonymous downarrows and hissyfit tone. I put the under/over of GW's self-defense posts at six. He's about the only ZH regular contributor who polices his own pabulum for deviants. But that is how the liberal/victim mind works, I guess...
Spot on, m_k. I spit my coffee when I read this gem of planted propaganda: "Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel is a steady hand. As long as he is in control of the American response, things hopefully won't spiral out of control from the American side."
Then, just to make sure the seed had been firmly planted in his acolytes, he repeated it again at the end!! WTF!!!! Hagel is a closet Jesuit ... so, the Khazarian Kleptokrats are firmly in control of steering this wherever they want....
Dawg! Enuff with the crococile coffee spittin! During your absence all of these top banner tikes were self-medicating nicely, and even, at times producing top notch stuff!
Suddenly bout a week ago, all hell breaks loose, either they've gone 'hogwild' on spouting their "shitty deal" subscriptions to the zhuppets, or like Geo here, blast off to outer space with sci-stuff as hasn't been seen here for months on end!... and lo n behold, look whos's back! Coininkey dink or conspirarcy>?????? Fingers are pointing in your direction!
Or perhaps I should say....KONSPIRACY>???? I had even stopped using the K word, just to er, keep things on an even (k)eel!
OK, it's your mess, yu klean it up! This is almost as bad as when Patrick McGoohan finds out No.6 is No.1!!!
heh heh heh...btw, hope yur bein back means that the book is done, and we can look forward to seein some pieces from the mighty tome soon!
Sadly, my blithesome confrere, pen has yet to be applied to paper - though I have fortuitously stumbled over more bone fragments (and an annoying conundrum) to add to the kache while doing other things!
I had, in fact, taken a sabbatical from the blogosphere and dogging the kazaks to clear my mind and focus on a couple of other projects ... but made the mistake of checking in on ZH one day during an idle hour and saw that you had greatly refined your konception of the kriminal konnections since last we spoke, and were even calling out the tedious Flaccid Penis!
Though I resolved to just observe and not get involved, one of the Tylers kracked my kool with a blatant disinformation kommercial for Bitkon and my hands just gravitated to the keyboard..... goddammit....
thanks for the update...I'm sorry to hear that you were unable to resist the blandishments of the tormenting Tylers - smack dealers to the intellectual classes
But now that you're back on track[in] so to speak...
this totally rash of totally bogus 'spoof-like' pieces is very sudden and very weird/can't help but think that it connects to something Jim Stone recently said...
and it seems to be accompanied by an outbreak of new telaviv planted goons(which even come complete with fake 'legacies'!)and matching moronic muslim hatin comments...ZH...the little island in the storm - overdue for extinction?
I can't say I've noticed any particular change in the tone or style of ZH in the 6-month interregnum. GW had given away his CNP affiliations long ago (he's even named himself after one of the Jesuit headquarters, and their earliest stalking horse, in their colony...but I digress...).
I did notice, however, upon reviewing the responses to some of your recent posts, before getting snagged by Tyler's bait, that there appeared to be more acceptance (or less violent rejection) on ZH of your references to the Khazarian Konnektion between Tel Aviv and Rome.
The muslim hating comments have not increased in my world (which includes an almost daily barrage of forwarded emails from a wealthy friend who is totally sucked into the Matrix on the topics of muslims, immigrants and liberals, which serves as my barometer of where the literate sheep are being led today) and I haven't noticed any increase on ZH after the 6-month sabbatical. Back then, Iran was ruffling everyone's feathers, now it's Syria and Korea. Another day, another foe...we've always been at war with Eastasia....
I don't expect a war. It's only the threat of war that they need to achieve their aims. Any planned depopulation will be biological and the security apparatus in the West is nearly komplete. All that remains for them to achieve is a mandatory electronic currency....
Hagel is a steady hand, compared to whom? Kim?
Seriously, who was SecDef when the B-52s and F-22 were flying by the troops massed on the DMZ and all these other "events" that could now be construed as irresponsible escalations were happening? DUMB FUCK CHUCK
He's an ass-clown who couldn't find his ass with both hands.
He couldn't cut it in the private sector so he went back to government work.
Nice to hear from you, i-dog. +1 for "acolytes"
down arrow
not anonymous(per se)
why dont you write something hotshot?
working on it, must edit more, give thanks
I do, all the time. Feel free to rebut any of my comments. Just be sure you've done your homework.
links?
Hmm....
Could you define liberal/victim? Because when I think of a "liberal", John Locke comes to mind... you know the guy who argued that everyone is entitled to life, liberty and property and that governments should not be able to deprive you of those things......
(enjoyed and concurred with MOST of your comments, and I enjoy reading GW. lol)
I suspect we have a taxonomy issue. Especially if you are from across the pond. "Liberal" in a classical sense is free market/John Locke/individual sovereignty. "Liberal" in the "Americanized" sense is statist/socialist/etc. I was using the latter, where I link being "liberal" as largely a function of being content to rely on others - particularly when the others involves coerced transfers via the central control regime. Such "liberals" must play "victim" in order to rationalize the transfer.
In my use of "Liberal", John Locke - who is among my very favorite thinkers - would not fit.
I agree that most of the MSM's North Korea hype has me looking around other parts of the world for a glimps of what the right hand is doing while the eyes are all looking left.
The more I hear NK saying " I'm going to do it..., I'm going to do it, .. Just wait I'm going to do it, " (meanwhile not mobilizing troop or a massing forces).
Perhaps the missile moves and preps are intended to get everyone focused watching the sky around the east coast of NK. More specifically get them not looking under the water.

MID-WEST, UNITED STATES — Within hours of South Korean news sources breaking a story that several Sang-Ho class submarines had disappeared from their North Korean bases, a ham radio operator named Tim, picked up a “numbers station” broadcasting on the same frequency as “The Voice of Korea” propaganda station. What makes this even more interesting is that at the tail end of the numbers transmission there was a long duration digital transmission as well.
....The unusual part of this potential burst transmission is being attached to a numbers station as well as the length and the power of the broadcast. Normal burst transmissions are in the one second to two second range. This transmission was in the 10 to 15 second range which is almost unheard of, unless the end point is a submarine.
Oh yeah...
http://www.christianpost.com/news/earthquake-today-in-iran-6-3-quake-hit...
the north korean threat is just an MSM-hype.
But like this article suggested
We have always been at war with Eastasia.
I'm not sure what you're on about with that violent overthrow story. If the regime were to be overthrown, it would have happened in the nineties, when millions were starving and dying. Credibility doesn't matter one bit to totalitarian dictatorships.
How about this:
US and South Korea war games played up as threat to North Korea
North Korea's leader puts up a strong defiance against the imperialist warmongers
War games end, US and South Korea go home
North Korea celebrates victory over imperialist warmongers putting fearless leader in solid with the peasants.
And don't bother trying to collect on those $700 trillion worth of derivatives either, you mad dog fools.
