i think the metaphor here goes from Titanic to Carnival Cruise, in the first instance all the ornate silver and gold going down with the ship, in the second case with raw sewage floating on the deck and passengers longing for a swim in the clean clean ocean of a free and open sea (markets)

conspiracy theory alert!

On board[the Titanic] were some of the richest and most influential people of the time. Benjamin Guggenheim, Isa Strauss, and Jacob Astor, were all passengers on the ship. These three men were most likely the most wealthy people of their time. Thusly, their opinion mattered greatly in matters of government and economics. These three were valiant opposers to the idea of a Federal Reserve Bank.

These particular things will never be able to be proven now ... However, neither can they be disproven, and so, are not truly "debunked." It is quite plausible that those behind creating the Federal Reserve Board would kill people who were in their way, and would kill people who became any kind of serious threat to "End the Fed." In general, I am convinced that almost all of human history has been one vast conspiracy of dishonesty backed by violence, going on for generation after generation.

or not so funny... there is compelling evidence that the sinking was part of an insurance scam by JP Morgan and other owners... and that the ship that actually went down was titanic's sister ship, the Olympic. the ships were nearly identical, but Olympic was severly damaged in trial runs... pretty interesting story.
