Man kind has been messing with mother nature for between 15,000 and 20,000 years. The grains needed for making large quantities of beer were arrived at by selective breeding. They'd toss the small grains stuff and just plant the large grain plants. Also there is some evidence of cross breeding for some grains to make it suitable for brewing. Eurp! The Native American Indians were late in breeding corn up to a reasonable size for eating and never developed a way to ferment it into a decent beer, and thus they were helpless before the invasion of Western civilized alcoholics.
