JQC, the people have been standing by since George III, under whom there was substantialy more liberty in this land than there is now.
It may seem like the US is alone in having a passive population that takes all this government sh1t.
But trust me, that isn't so. The UK is no better and most European nations are little better. The demos and riots we see occasionally in Madrid and elsewhere are the exception, not the rule. Seemingly, the only places where they take to the streets are in the M/E where many people have little left to lose.
I think it's the sports and entertainment industries thar serve as an activist lobotomy.
People hold the hope out that they can be sports athletes or idol stars or social media billionaires. I know this sounds ridiculous. But think about the success fantasies generated in the media. Meanwhile burger flipping or waiting tables becomes the placeholder, particularly for those buried in school debts.
And it is really just the Moslem and SEA countries where these public unrest scenarios really build their own momentum. In Europe I think you are seeing weekend warriors. You don't see anyone really going out to tear the place apart. I could be wrong but that is my impression.
