Well, ain't that the nutshell... But just try putting forth a serious proposal.
My serious proposal:
You vote with your wallet...you withhold money from corporations that do not share your own ethos.
The MIC is made possible by the lowly American through their spending choices. I've read these pages for a while now, and noticed many blame corporations/politicians for how things are with little thought about how these entities/people gain and maintain such power.
Complaining that there is some great conspiratorial force working behind the scenes does nothing to solve the problem...it actually perpetuates it by failing to a) address the real problem and b) propose a solution. No solution, no action, the band plays on.
Advertising/Media cements this mindless-buying problem and the cycle continues...but again, it's the people that choose not to think and simply react to some sort of unconscious Maslow/Pavlov-based advertising. Hence...think and vote with your wallet.
When the politicians see the shift in corporate sentiment, they will do what they do best: Flip-flop to whichever way the wind is blowing.
I usually spend my time on ZH reading or making light-hearted quips...but I believe in the above solution and I practice it whenever I can so I decided to type in more than one sentence. I still buy gas for example, but I limit how much I drive and combine trips whenever possible; I can't exclude that entirely but can limit what I spend. I don't, however, shop at WalMart and would rather find what I need used off Craigslist...but the problem is what does the seller off CL do with my money...
The government believes that it should control the people, and 98+% of the people believe the government should control the people.
The supporters differ from the rulers basically in that they aren't motivated enough to do the dirty work of killing and stealing to achieve that control.
I have to agree. As an American, all I see are blowhards and pussies paying their taxes and going with the flow no matter what.
Not that I have any answers either, but I think you are correct. Most of us (myself included) haven't done shit to change anything.

The only answer is to reverse this transfer of assets. The only people who can do this is the politicians. Therefore, annoying the politicians the way only Americans can is required. Email bomb every goddam one of them. Phone their offices in call bombs during operating hours. Set up teams to do this. Public offices must have a working system; this would cause huge issues for other business details and public officials must be available. if the phone is always busy or the e-mails go unanswered...well, it's time for a new phone line and then you do it again.
Local level is the only way to get there. I have watched the meetings. Particularly interesting how dismissive and rude the politicians, since they need votes. Unless they think they will one day not need votes.
So, go to meetings in town. Just be there. If there is not enough room, request their meetings be held in stadium because this is a democracy.
If you do nothing, you are pissing away the finest fucking nation in teh world. Love your car? That house? The fine clothes. Your ~style~? You can have all that, but if you are a person without a nation, you become a gypsy, nomad, a wandering American and we already know what happens.

If the politicians pay the ultimate price to lead this fine nation, due to their actually attempting to acting in the benefit of the true American economy/people/best interests, they signed up for it. The sacrifice will be remembered. Get involved with elections in your town also, voting fraud/redistricting - hire a company as tax payers to monitor elections because if the loser wins, we all lose.

Hey, I would love if the rules of the game really were this way: We creating the society we like, without force and coercion, but with a hell of a lot of freedom and liberty.

But writing of Revolution without being willing to make the sacrifices necessary...including the risk of a loss of personal freedom when they cage you, if not spilling your blood and losing your life is a little hypocritical. Even the Occupy Wall Street movement had people willing to give up their Modern Comforts, willing to be gassed, willing to be caged, and I think that there might just have been some who actually died as a result. They were not whiner but doers. They were just misinformed and lacked understang and cohesiveness.
No I am not writing for a Bloody Revolution so that I can view it on TV from the comfort of my home. I happen to enjoy my modern day comforts too much.
It is YOUR system the one that you have helped create. You also enjoy it...too much. You just deny the responsibility for allowing it to develop. So own it...or fight. The choice is yours but at least own the responsibility.
