A Free, Quick and Easy Way to Protest Government Spying

George Washington's picture

While it’s obvious to everyone that the government is spying on virtually all of the digital communications of Americans – phone, email, Internet, credit card, etc. – the government is pretending that it only spies on foreigners and collecting our  metadata (which can actually tell a lot about us).

Indeed, the government is instructing Senate staffers to stick cover their eyes and pretend that the spying documents found all over the Internet don’t exist.

One free and easy way to protest mass surveillance, educate others, and yank Big Brother’s chain is simply to add a sentence to the end of your emails and web posts.

To give you the idea: you’ve seen the disclaimers at the end of emails from lawyers, investment advisers, and similar professionals.  You know, the ones that say stuff like “This is a confidential communication and can’t be used by anyone but the intended recipient”.  They put the same disclaimer at the end of every single email.

Why don’t we put our own disclaimer at the end of our emails and web comments, saying:

WARNING: The National Security Agency is likely recording and storing this communication as part of its unlawful spying programs on all Americans ... and people worldwide. The people who created the NSA spying program say that this communication - and any responses - can and will be used against the American people at any time in the future should folks in government decide to go after us for political reasons. And private information in digital communications may be given to big companies by the government.

Mass surveillance doesn't keep us safe, and even the top national security experts say that we don't need it. (They also say we should get a grip.)

This may help keep the issue alive even as the government desperately tries to sweep it under the rug.

Note: All modern browsers allow you to highlight, copy and then paste text with links in it into your email or web comment.  If you prefer, you can copy just the text and delete the links.

Howard Beale:  words to append:  would real terrrrsts really use words like "NSA", "terrorist", "Jihad" etc?
How about  inserting words and phrases like "the stuff" and "for the cause", "the operation", and "hit the bnmsduiye on the day of dklhihhjk"?

I'm not a lawyer or Constitutional expert like Obama but it seems to me that the unintended consequences of this spying are beyond belief.   Has the Prism system logged EVERY attorney client phone conversation?   What about attorney client privlege?   Has every single criminal prosecution in the US been compromised by this nonsense?   What about civil liability if the US government becomes aware of criminal or terrorist activities and doesn't act to prevent it?   Just as an example of how stupid and careless Obama is just look at the way he has compromised EVERY SINGLE military prosecution for sexual assault by just one careless remark.

I say just give the stupid bastards enough rope to hang themselves.   Or put Obama in front of an open mike without a telepromter and watch him self destruct.  Enjoy the show.

Obama is not a lawyer or a Constitutional expert, either. Obama had to surrender his law license for lying on his Bar Exam application.

Obama was also turned down for a job at the Univeristy of Chicago after he was interviewed because "He didn't know anything."  Obama only got hired after an unknown bigshot made a call 2 weeks later and told the Dean to "Put him on the payroll."  That's why Obama got a job as a part time guest lecturer at the U of Chicago. (anecdote  told by John Lott, JD, and a real tenured professor at U fo Chicago).

Wife Michelle Obama also surrendered her law license for being involved in an insurance scam. Not sure of the details but think it was a health insurance scam involved with her legacy job at the university hospital.

Awww, someone has a problem with a "progressive" telling a lie, to get on a jury, in a case involving lawful deadly force in the state of Florida.

Another (Juror E73) says she doesn’t “own a gun, I can’t conceive of being armed, I can’t conceive of shooting someone”.

Because she can't "conceive" of owning a gun or shooting someone, one supposes she would rather die pleading for her life while the perp plunges a knife through her breast.

Very odd.

I've been wondering about attorney/client communications too.  The implications of the NSA eaves-dropping on plaintiffs suing the govt. a favored corporation, or bank - is just staggering.

I have already begun telling my clients about this. It really does bring up a ton of silly issues. A common thread of "waiving the privilege" is using a forum that you know is not discrete. But they deny they listen to specific conversations...but insiders say they do but....Obama said they don't, but those fuckers were caught cracking the Guantanamo attorney phone lines but... (see: it's insane - like our leaders)

I truly think they want us to know this - to fuck with our head and condition us that all legal privilege is dead.

Hard to believe in a country of corporate super citiens

Spot on Davey. They absolutely wish for us to know. I came to that conclusion quite awhile back. They've been advertising this crap loud and clear. I believe it's more than just conditioning us. They hope to provoke a particular sort of response and are well prepared for when the day arrives, which it most certaintly will.

No one was ever physically damaged by talk. The target is 90% political message control: how the crap is going over and exactly how many don't notice and the rate of that change. This is essential for the Prince of any House. The 10% remainder is Big Data feed for the narrative du jour. You can just imagine the power of the individual if not played properly.

A lot of people do not understand how narratives function, much less understand how their internal narrative is manipulated by their willingness to believe and give trust in authority no matter how absurd the narrative is.

Sounds like a plan. I’m also working on an app which automatically sends an email and prerecorded phone message to the NSA every time I send or receive correspondence on one of my tech devices which says, “STOP SPYING ON ME FUCKERS!”

Warning: There may be a downside to this, especially if they are lying about not reading or listening to content. Don’t be surprised if you get audited ten years in a row, your credit score unexpectedly drops from 760 to 60, your ATM short changes you $40 on your next withdrawal, pictures of your kids at the school playground start popping up on the side of your computer screen, and suddenly every time you try to access ZH you’re routed to the NSA website while the National Anthem starts playing in the background.

The only reason that the government wants to spy on us is to expand the tax base.

The only reason that Congress WILL pass immigration is to expand the tax base.

The only reason ObamaCare passed was to expand the tax base. You didn't think it was about our health and well-being did you? Our taxes were increased by $2,400. Insurance? Not so much.

Excuse me George, but it is not just Americans. And right now people all over the world are asking themselves if it is a good idea to use an American cloud service or email platform like google and that is what is going to blow the commercial lid off of this.

How can Google or Facebook say we don't give your data to the government but we sell it to Coca Cola?

I am sure the Eurocrats see this as a perfect opportunity to suddenly cast themselves as the protectors of Europe.

President Obomb-zombie-nation is leading the Land of Apple Pie to a better place answering the siren call (what another curfew?) of all socialists, Commies and delusional parasites (Church, royalty, dictators etc etc) in their tny minds they can save us ....from ourselves

when a socialist sees a twat in a hole of their own making he doesn't jump in himself to lend a hand... too much like hard work

no he blames the twats misfortune on the rich, and calls for the State theft of the rich (responsible) persons hard earned to bail out the poor (irresponsible) twats misfortune

...and a slice of everyones pie for the socialist himself of course... we wouldn't want O-zombie-nation and his ilk to work, we just have to fund their lavish lifestyles and the bill for the soap box called Govt so self-sanctified parasitical arseholes (politicians) can keep giving us the wisdom of the idealistic shit circling between their ears

such a shame these cretins are going bankrupt by their own hand ...but duck, they'll blame that on everyone but themselves too and expect you to bail them out by working harder

when Obumma says, "you didn't build that" he sincerely/delusionally means it... he helped you build it simply by talking shit from his soapbox every day

At least then when all Internet users are hauled up before kangaroo courts for being political dissidents. the ones who took advice from George will be able to have a bit of a laugh at whatever witty comments were put on all your emails.

Why not just put a legal disclaimer at the end of each email saying that you are not responsible for the contents of the email as it may have been doctored by the NSA?

Disclaimer.
This post could have been intercepted and doctored by the NSA and therefore may not represent the views of the poster.
