Hello, Who Are You?

chumbawamba's picture

Welcome, Brother and Sister. Peace be unto you.

So a while ago we finally had a chance to meet, strike hands and exchange pleasantries, after all this time of crossed schedules and missed opportunities. Chumba has been busy with the trials and tribulations of personal apocalypse. Indeed, we shall all experience our own revealing in one way or another, and sooner rather than later, perhaps sooner than you expect, or want.

Let us sit down now at the table. I'll bring out the board. It'll take some time to set up all the pieces and explain how each operates. After all, if one is to engage in a contest, it is only fair that each player know the parameters of engagement.

CONTEST. To make defense to an adverse claim in a court of law; to oppose, resist, or dispute the case made by plaintiff. To strive, to win or hold; to controvert, litigate, call in question, challenge; to defend, as a suit or other proceeding. - Black's Law Dictionary, 4th Edition, p. 391

Indeed, the Court of Chumbawamba is always in session. But don't mind your first insinuation. This is not as serious as it may seem. You haven't been accused, but you are being challenged.

Or if you prefer, we can use an alternate paradigm to describe this engagement. Instead of a gameboard we can call it a stage, and instead of pieces we shall instead have characters. In fact, just bring your own paradigm. This spectacle can and will be observed in any number of familiar constructs, all featuring their own nuanced perspective that altogether bring a fuller understanding of that to which I am to minister. Pick the one best suited for you and go with it; I'll be a gracious host and adapt to your preference. Think nothing of it, Arabs are typically like that.

Keep in mind that no apocalypse is the same twice, so a lot of this is going to be new for me as well. In fact, I expect to learn as much from you as that what I am going to proffer.

Now, before we discuss the structure and semantics of this engagement, I should first start with the most important aspect here, which is you.

Who are you?

Do you remember?

Do you remember where you are and why you're here?

...

Let's do an exercise. Take a moment now, and quiet your mind. Remove unnecessary distractions. We're going to meditate on this. Close your eyes and relax for a moment.

Now, open your eyes, and look around you.

What do you see?

I guess that really depends on where you are. Most of you, my dear cohorts, are inside a man-made structure somewhere, likely surrounded almost, if not entirely, by man-made objects. And if you thought about it for a moment, all of the things you use on a daily basis--your bed, your clothes, your house, your car, your roads, your place of work--basically everything, is man-made.

If you're like most people in the developed world, you might go your entire day without touching anything made naturally. Think about it. Even much of the food you stuff down your gullet is processed, man-made. Short of the purely plant and animal products you might consume, like a salad or a bowl of fruit or a steak or some chicken, much of your food these days is artificial, processed meats and vegetables.

Unless you're blessed to be living in a "country" environment, in your world, nature is merely the backdrop or garden adornment of your man-made worldly universe. Yours is a world almost entirely made by man. Your concrete walkways stingily allow for some meager foliage to protrude into the tidy man-made world, and perhaps you're blessed with front and back yards where you allow a lawn, some flowers and shrubs, and perhaps a few trees to exist, tidily maintained and confined to your preferences.

But the vast majority of your landscape, I'm guessing, is the creation of the hand of man. And it just sits there generally, not doing anything. It's all dead. Even the things that do something, like a clock, or a radio, or an oven, are just neat boxes that perform magic tricks based on properties of the physical universe that man has learned to master, but each of those objects ends in and of itself. In order for there to be more clocks or radios or ovens, and in order for there to be even working clocks and radios and ovens, requires the constant presence of the hand of man.

Now, I interject here my apologies to those who are reading these words on a farm, or a mill, or in the woods, on the beach, or just somewhere outside. Here, I am not primarily speaking to you.

But for the likely majority of you, contrast your likely setting with, say, a healthy forest. There, you have tall, lush trees. Creatures like birds and squirrels are zipping about; bugs flit here and there. There are flowers, an array of shrubs, aromatic grasses. In other words, there is an abundance of life all about you. Everything you see in such an environment is alive in the truest sense of the word.

So, uh, who made it? In your (“your” again being the majority of you) world, someone somewhere made your stuff. So, who made the forest and the trees and the birds and bugs and flowers? You see what I'm getting at here. I don't believe stuff like that “just happens” or is “just there”. In my Earthly experience, nothing just shows up without someone, or something, putting it there. Though they seemingly appeared out of nowhere overnight, someone put those Georgia Guidestones where they are. They had a maker. No one will dispute that. No one is going to argue that four slabs of granite self-assembled and spontaneously expressed a philosophy of global genocide and universal control of the world's population through some heretofore unobserved process of momentary sentiality of a previously inanimate substance.

Getting back to the forest and its contents, one might say that it was created as a result of “natural processes”. Ok, fine: natural processes. But who set those natural processes in motion? Somebody, or something, somewhere, had to have initiated it. Forgive me, but the “big bang” explanation just does not satisfy me or anyone who actually thinks for a moment and considers the proposition.

At this point there is none to arguing this either way. I beg you, my beloved guest, simply to accept and agree, for the time being at least, that we answer the inquiry as to who made the forest and all that is in it thusly: "It is natural", where "natural" has the meaning "made by nature". Let us just agree on this definition. Definitions are important, and to communicate effectively, it should go without saying we must agree on them. And if you plan to stick around, that is the definition I intend to use...for now.

So in conclusion, I pray we can agree that everything we can observe, and beyond, all of what we can see and touch and taste and smell and hear, natural or otherwise, has a maker. Cool?

Good.

There is a point to this. A major one. One that we must continue to explore later, after you have acclimated to our now agreed upon propositions above.

As for me, the Kingdom is presently under seige, and Chumba is dispossessed of his lands. A battle to turn the tides is in the making; plans must be lain and provisions garnered. And so with this I must take leave to my chambers. I shall return, and I pledge, in an expeditious manner.

In the meantime, make yourself comfortable, relax, close your eyes, and remember who you are...

I am Chumbawamba.

Thank you for this.

In my view Big Bang is merely a pseudo-science spin on Creationism, i.e. some god kick-starting the Universe out of nothing.

Good stuff Chumblez.

I am going to have an interesting day. Something has been leading me towards this day, this moment. It is overwhelming in a sense, but I welcome it.

You are and you are not. You are both God and not God. Wording is the problem. Wording is all we have, words point at things, but they also bound things in ways that they are not. Words trap. Words liberate. Apprehension then comprehension.

In the beginning was the word. The word was with God and the word was God.

Word up, my fellow bitchez.

Rene Descartes has, had? it backwards, you are therefore you think!

You were already created before you began to think, you didn't think your self into being, speculative thinking is one of the attributes of our species, other life `Thinks`Humans have the attribute of `Speculative` thinking, it is the basis of our, self recognized `Genius`, the creatures who are self identified as Human have a great affinity for self aggrandization, yet a blindness to what they are truly doing, they use their ten pounds, more or less, of brain to try and discern the meaning and purpose of life, and take great joy in calling attention to their Genius; "hey! look at me, look what `I` thought of, I am clever aren't I?"Perhaps I am , if the other ten pounders agree, at least I am in my own mind, and let us be really honest here, our own minds are the very limit of our World, the whole thing, for you, plays out in your own head, that is the only World you have access to!

We are such great Geniuses that we are slowly commiting mass suicide, (slowly at first, more rapidly later), the first stages of this process are already discernable, Human Genius in action, don't be upset--all life is directed by instinct, we are where our, responses, to instincts urgings, have led us---we stand at the edge of the cliff, some are already going over, the pressure to go forward is immense, I hope we can turn back--but I doubt we shall-- It is baked in the Cake, as the saying goes!

Chumbawamba, CD, MDB, The poster who pretends to be Chinese and pronounces on Americanism, I can't think of his name this morning, you know who I mean , he is always respondeed to by the shit obsessed, these and others, (Ori Too), make this site a must visit for me.

ahhh, at last.   some intelligent life appears on ZH, amidst the lists & graphs. . .

Chumbawamba, I Am Another Yourself.  I know I am Consciousness, experiencing Itself via myriad perspectives, no two alike - else why bother? - bumping up against each other for the lulz, the drama, the discord, the genius, the love.  as are we all.

key word:  definitions, yes, as words have become sullied and dis-guise'd, used to betray confidences.

we each view our reality from our own perspective, and mine is more filled with natural beingness than with artificial bits 'n' pieces.  it hasn't always been so, but for many years now, it's all I can bear to witness.

I wish you strength, and know you have it, in maintaining your stance in your current reality.

Hello, old friend.

It's good to know that this journey is not going to be as difficult as I previously imagined.  A few years ago the reception to this might've been less than it has been.  It seems we have all been waking up to reality to one extent or another.  My goal is to channel this new realization into concerted action.  I intend to share with everyone the tools I've discovered to take this bitch back.  The most important tool in our box is knowing who we are.  Once we know that, marching into hell to confront the enemy actually becomes a joyful occasion.

;)

Chumbawamba I've always loved youy stuff since I first came here, you and CD were mind opening for me; still, we people seem to enjoy thinking about the questions which have no answers, at least no answers greater than what ten pounds of grey matter can conjure for it's own amusement, do you think there is anything else in the whole of creation which spends it's energy wondering why it exists? This is one of the things people like to do, it is a game they like to play, the winners in this game are those who can imagine people having an ever more grandiose role in the grand scheme of things, if course we do have the role we think we have, as long as reality allows us to think it, as I mentioned in an earlier post, our whole World is in our heads, we react with the World outside of course, our bodies come from that world, and the world outside nourishes us, but, inside our heads we can, and do think what ever gives the most comfort and pleasure, I don't know who or what I am, I wasn't brought up with that particular indoctrination and now it is too late to learn. Growing up, I had some envy for those who were indoctrinated, who knew their place in God's grand scheme of things, and had the security of belonging to Church and Family, now it seems,to me, their security is it's self false, something of a constraint they fear to test, they cling to their beliefs as talismen to ward off evil, yet belief is powerless against reality, Our individual fates will be what they are, our collective fate will be what reality dictates.

"yet belief is powerless against reality:"

Nassim Taleb Infraction! Five point penalty.  I'll quote the Codex Piratus: "Our knowledge is finite & fraught with error. Therefore, we do not know reality; at best we can only assemble the data we believe to be true, and extrapolate a picture or map that we believe to be accurate until we get better data."

So your statement is really "The beliefs I console myself with are insufficient to the suspicions I torment myself with."

Forget about reality; all you really have is perception, coupled with whatever analytical powers you've developed. So-called "reality" shifts with the morning news wires. The truth is that what you believe will have far more impact on your life than some supposed (but indeterminable) Reality that may or may not ever emerge from the haze.

"Our path is not determined by the facts of our lives, but by the stories we tell ourselves about the facts of our lives."

You have something there, I'll admit Imminent Crucible, What I'm trying to say, in my tortured way, Belief may open the Gates of Heaven, I have no reason to believe it won't, yet belief cannot win you the lottery,,, whynot? ,,, Because only God can make a lottery winner, and it seems God choses the winners using random criteria.

We all tell ourselves stories, that is universal human behavior, still, The facts of our lives have a great deal to do with the stories we are able to tell ourselves,

If you have been "Lucky" and gotten some good "Numbers" in the grand lottery, as I have, and so have you, we can tell ourselves some satisfying, comforting tales.

Had your path or mine, been different, let us say, for instance we had been captured and forced into sex slavery at the age of thirteen, (You can see them on the ` Adult` pay for view channels) Thirteen is, reportedly, the best age to innitiate newcomers into the life), they are there I've seen them myself, perhaps we wouldn't be able to tell ourselves such satisfying stories. The path is everything and random chance places us each on their own.

This exercise in navel-gazing has a point, as I alluded.  I'm not asking the question to line people up for some sort of spiritual crusade.  Well, actually, I am doing that, but not in the way anyone imagines.

People on ZH tend to want to make things happen.  I'm going to imbue people with the tools to do just that in the context that is bitched about endlessly in the comments of every article posted.  I'm going to let people know they have permission (not from me) to make the world in their own image.

This will be as much practical as it is spiritual.  Those who take one away without the other will be missing the larger point.

I don't know which layer of the You you are willing to stop at, Chumba and Cathartes. All I know is that the mathematics of this universe and beyond are immense, and we are given a chance to investigate our entire mathematical ecosystem. A chance to go on an adventure... what a treat! The goal of any adventurer is to first know the bounds of the system, and consciousness has everything to do with the bounds of the system, as far my opinions lead me. Instinct tells me all the answers are built-in. What does a newborn compute, as soon as it enters this world? It can't yet see the color orange, but does it know orange inherently?

The true war is on consciousness.

Fri, 07/12/2013 - 15:56 | 3746366 Cathartes Aura
Cathartes Aura's picture

we may be defining Consciousness differently Skateboarder.

Consciousness is all there is, so it encompasses infinite universes, all image-ings, all opinions, all instincts.

if there is a war on consciousness, it is not the infinite Consciousness, which would contain, entertain, all separations labeled "war" - it is awareness of this truth that some seek, and others pay little attention to.

both efforts & ignoring exist, this is evident, within consciousness. rather like described in the Tao.

and within that, we all exist, and act our parts, of the Whole.

Well, as you know, there is no "stopping", because once you get to the "end" you are back at the "beginning" again, of course.

Yes, we should have the answer, inherently, but somehow it escapes us.  Why?  I think it's because we wanted it that way.  We are fucking with ourselves, and when we finally figure it out (which I'm guessing will be soon now) we're going to laugh our asses off.
