Congress Is Less Popular than Cockroaches, Lice, Root Canals, Colonoscopies, Genghis Khan, Communism, King George
Business Insider notes today:
A June Gallup poll [showed that Congress] had a 10% approval rating [while] and one in March that showed North Korea with a 12% favorability rating among Americans.
That’s nothing…
We’ve previously documented that the U.S. Congress is less popular among the American people than cockroaches, lice, root canals, colonoscopies, traffic jams, used car salesmen, Genghis Khan, Communism, BP during the Gulf oil spill, Nixon during Watergate or King George during the American Revolution.
Postscript: While some wrongly assume that partisan gridlock is the cause of Congress' unpopularity, the truth is that there has been bipartisan unity among Congress members in:
- Using smoke and mirrors instead of addressing the real problems
- And generally acting in an untrustworthy manner
That's why Congress is so unpopular.

two words: rotten boroughs
the peculiar disease/corruption of the FPTP electoral system
Who the fuck cares.
The idiots re-elect them 98% of the time.
Most people see Congress as a bunch of greedy pigs at the swill trough but most people like THEIR congressperson. I read a poll somewhere; the average support for the local rep was well over 50%. Shocking. Well, maybe not so shocking when you consider that most Americans are just dumb animals begging to be divided and conquered and bribed with their own money. The local congressperson is from the home team, brings home the bacon, and knows how to pander to the mostly irrelevant social prejudices of the locals. Everyone in congress is allowed to vote their conscience on abortion, gay marriage, and other distracting wedge issues which the media blows out of proportion. This maintains the illusion of the little people being in charge and encourages "lesser evil" thinking.
Once in a while, reps piss off a few locals by voting for a particularly odious bailout or something. Such votes are carefully managed and traded so that when someone throws the constituents under the bus, it is always someone in a "safe" district and the vote in Congress is close. The media then pretends it never happened. The easily distracted public moves on to the next celebrity gawking freakshow. The media can even manufacture consent on an issue with a relentless campaign of "WMDs!! Saddam did 9/11! If Congress doesn't pass the Terrorist Journalist Lawful Kinetic Action Act, terrorists will eat your children!" The end result is that most people see their Congresspeople agreeing with them on most issues, but in reality they would all throw the people under the bus whenever the Party (and its real constituent, the money power) demands it.
the power lies in, not voting but, the counting of the
votes. who said that?

"The Conundrum
The catch 22 is that they cannot exit now without markets and asset classes freefalling back to natural sustainable levels, yet markets are at hundred year highs! The real problem is that if they cannot exit now, then they push markets and asset classes even higher artificially to even more unsustainable levels! The drop becomes even more pronounced a la the Tech bubble where stocks trading in the 100`s dropped to zero, silicon valley had their fire sale for property as all the business built up around unsustainable market valuations came crashing back to reality.
...
This is because asset prices have been inflated for five consecutive years. This has never been done in the history of financial markets. The fed has outdone every previous bubble they have ever created, and as all asset classes are inter-related, leverage is used, and the correlation of asset classes in greater than ever before in markets. There is no possible exit without causing massive money flow disruptions in financial markets. Every asset class is based upon and relies on the fed stimulus each month like a financial market crack addict." ...e.m.

...The bottom-line is that the USA as we have known it as the great Light of Freedom and Liberty for all has been captured and is being destroyed from the inside; nothing new here. The final moments are already in play; you are now experiencing the Fall of Rome; today is the continuation of the 1917 Bolsehivek Revolution..

..The War now is of the individual against the "Collective". But there is a larger "collective" in the room (there always is) but this "collective" respects the individual and that is known as humanity; the creation of God." aquarius

The problem with voting is you only get to vote for a selected (carefully) bunch of arseholes, so no matter who you vote for you end up with an arsehole in power. The arseholes have set it up that way.
To quote George Carlin "Politicians are there to make you THINK you have a choice. YOU DON'T"
Another aspect of the voting system used by most "developed" countries means that power is given to people who do not have anything approaching a real majority. If 60% of a countries eligable voters decide to do so, and the 'winning' side get 52% of the votes, only 31% voted for them - not much of a majority is it. They then claim to have a mandate from the voters!!!!
The saying that 'if you don't vote you have no right to complain' is crap. If you voted you agreed to their corrupt game. It is those who vote who have no right to complain.
Don't vote, it only encourages the bastards.
Once again: "If voting changed anything, they'd make illegal." — Emma Goldman
Don't vote for anyone who wants to be elected.
Hi, I'm Skateboarder and I'm running for state senate. I'll give you free swag* during my term if you vote for me. Thanks, bitchez!
