Truth they don't get, money is what they get. Afterall, the gallery business is rent driven and caters to the well healed targets of my satire.
Money means don't insult or confound our customers with the truth. Humor them with oversized pretty pictures and abstractions.

Having said that, if anyone knows of a palatable exception to the above, I am all ears. (Palatable means eager to augment broader distribution of the messages. For this I am happy to collaborate).
In the meantime, WilliamBanzai7 is grateful to be one of the few living artists able to offer his works directly to an appreciative audience, without the necessity of paying vig to middlemen.
Galleries take 50% to 60% of the retail price. Does that make them respectable? I think no dealer should ever make more money for a piece of art than the artist him/herself. Yes, they have fixed costs of rent/utilities but they pay nothing for their merchandise --it is almost always provided on a consignment basis and the artist is paid at the dealer's discretion. Sometimes this relationship works well. Sometimes not.
If the dealer runs off with the artist's work and/or money, here in the US the only law protecting the artist is consignment law which is very small in scope and is governed by small claims court.
An artist who is able to reach an audience directly is far more fortunate to avoid the uncertainty of an partnership that may be successful or one that may cost time, money and work.
My price model even undercuts Amazon Art ;-)
And BTW to the wiseasses, nothing with a Banksy, Mickey Mouse, Ronald McDonald, or Phan Thi Kim Phuc image in it will ever be available for purchase from me.
One thing that can be said about WB7, I don't sit on a high blogger pedestal. I read each and every comment and I am always happy to engage verbally in the trenches. Positively and/or negatively. ;-)
