U.S. Points Out that Only Tyrants Treat Journalists As Terrorists … While Doing the Exact Same Thing

George Washington's picture

U.S. and U.K. Attack Independent Journalists

The U.S. government is targeting whistleblowers in order to keep its hypocrisy secret … so that it can keep on doing the opposite of what it tells other countries to do.

As part of this effort to suppress information which would reveal the government’s hypocrisy, the American government – like the British government – is treating journalists as terrorists.

Journalism is not only being criminalized in America, but investigative reporting is actually treated like terrorism.

The government admits that journalists could be targeted with counter-terrorism laws (and here). For example, after Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Chris Hedges, journalist Naomi Wolf, Pentagon Papers whistleblower Daniel Ellsberg and others sued the government to enjoin the NDAA’s allowance of the indefinite detention of Americans – the judge asked the government attorneys 5 times whether journalists like Hedges could be indefinitely detained simply for interviewing and then writing about bad guys. The government refused to promise that journalists like Hedges won’t be thrown in a dungeon for the rest of their lives without any right to talk to a judge

After the government’s spying on the Associated Press made it clear to everyone that the government is trying to put a chill journalism, the senior national-security correspondent for Newsweek tweeted:

Serious idea. Instead of calling it Obama’s war on whistleblowers, let’s just call it what it is: Obama’s war on journalism.

Moreover:

  • The Bush White House worked hard to smear CIA officersbloggers and anyone else who criticized the Iraq war
  • In an effort to protect Bank of America from the threatened Wikileaks expose of the bank’s wrongdoing, the Department of Justice told Bank of America to a hire a specific hardball-playing law firm to assemble a team to take down WikiLeaks (and see this)

And the American government has been instrumental in locking up journalists in America (and here), Yemen and elsewhere for the crime of embarrassing the U.S. government.

It’s Only Tyrannical When Others Do It

The U.S. State Department correctly noted in April:

Some governments are too weak or unwilling to protect journalists and media outlets. Many others exploit or create criminal libel or defamation or blasphemy laws in their favor. They misuse terrorism laws to prosecute and imprison journalists. They pressure media outlets to shut down by causing crippling financial damage. They buy or nationalize media outlets to suppress different viewpoints. They filter or shut down access to the Internet. They detain and harass – and worse.

And the State Department rightly announced last year:

We are deeply concerned about the Ethiopian government’s conviction of a number of journalists and opposition members under the Anti-Terrorism Proclamation. This practice raises serious questions and concerns about the intent of the law, and about the sanctity of Ethiopians’ constitutionally guaranteed rights to freedom of the press and freedom of expression.

The arrest of journalists has a chilling effect on the media and on the right to freedom of expression. We have made clear in our ongoing human rights dialogue with the Ethiopian government that freedom of expression and freedom of the media are fundamental elements of a democratic society.

As Secretary Clinton has said, “When a free media is under attack anywhere, all human rights are under attack everywhere. That is why the United States joins its global partners in calling for the release of all imprisoned journalists in every country across the globe and for the end to intimidation.”

Sounds great … maybe we should start with the U.S. and UK?

The ACLU’s Ben Wizner sums up the American and British governments’ attitude towards journalists:

Relax, everyone. You’re not terrorists unless you try “to influence a government.” Just type what you’re told.

What do you expect when the executor of the laws is an illegal entity? Law? There is no stinkin law, there is no "Constitution" and there is no "United States" since a British born (of a British subject Kenyan father) non natural born Citizen was purposefully put in the White House. This Presidency was planned to destroy your sovereignty, and aided and abetted by a traitorous media angling for a seat at the table. I guess they are finding out that it is the kiddie table in the next room. The "law" is now what evil men say it is. Get a clue GW. Speak the truth you coward.

We hoped for a Mandela and got a Mugabe. Attacking the press, murdering, spying and lying are now mainstream in America.

Psychological Projection 101

Psychological projection was conceptualized by Sigmund Freud in the 1890s as a defense mechanism in which a person unconsciously rejects his or her own unacceptable attributes by ascribing them to objects or persons in the outside world.[1] For example, a person who is rude may accuse other people of being rude. (Wikipedia)

"So vee zees, meine students, zat der USSA accuse ozzers of haffing neine Press Freedom - ven, all zee time, USSA media ist also unter grosse kontrol - so most clever, ya?" - Channeling Dr Freud

Food for Thought:

Not only is press censorship with this Regime similar to many others in the 20th century, let's look at another parallel.

When Hitler was building the NAZI party, he created the SA, made up in part of WW1 vets and Nationalists. The SA, under Rohm, desired to be incorporated into the German Army. The Prussian leadership was against this, but many junior officers were in favor. Hitler considered the SA as only a political army- he needed the support of the German Army to assume Power.

When Hitler came to power, the SA became a liability. During the 'Night of the Long Knives,' Hitler eliminated the SA and secured the favor of the Army Leadership.

In the US today, we have a similar politician who is using a variation of this theme: he is Building an SA (DHS), a political army loyal only to his Administration, while purging the US Military of officers opposed to his Regime. The Leader has stated, famously, that an army as capable as the US Armed forces is needed domestically.

Why?

The only reason such an army is needed is to make war against the citizens of the US. Under the current Regime, only personnel loyal to the leader have assumed command positions in the DHS. A simple search of the internet reveals a cadre of Marxists and Muslim Brotherhood operatives within the Department.

Now that the Leader has assumed unlimited power for himself through bogus but "legal" Executive Orders and unconstitutional socialist control legislation ("ObamaCare"), it is the US Armed Forces which create the liability.

The Leader has almost finished his work of replacing the Armed Forces with the DHS (SA). At a time to be determined via an economic or natural calamity, the trap will close and the Leader will have an Army responsible only to him.

Americans are slowly becoming aware: ammo no longer available, the last lead-producing facility in CONUS shut down, the expansion of paramilitary assistance to local LE; it is all on the table with those who have the eyes to see.

The current Regime and its Leader will continue to abrogate constitutional restrictions until an outright Dictatorship is in place.

It makes sense in regards to the post above.  I have, personally, been puzzled by this guy.  Is he a fascist, a marxist, a Islamist, a mixture, or something else entirely?  Most of those work with the idea of setting up a fallguy for the final takeover.  Will the Muslims, communists, or fascists be the patsy?  Who knows.

"hahaha muslim brotherhood? what a wonderfully american centric idea."

El Watan, one of Egypt's most widely circulated and read newspapers, has published a report discussing the Muslim Brotherhood's influence over the United States, especially in the context of inciting pro-Brotherhood policies against Egypt's popular June 30 Revolution, which resulted in the ousting of Muhammad Morsi and the Brotherhood from power.

Hi, this is my first post. At age 10 I blew the whistle on a Utah uranium mine stock scam in California selling zero value shares to elderly in my grandmother's church. FBI investigation was ongoing for 2 years when I phoned our family's Ohio broker who, in turn, phoned the district office in Chicago. Thus began a life of over 10k hours of cleaning up messes of private firms, governments and even in my grammar and high schools that made headlines 40+ years later.

Since this is my virgin post I will leave you with one thought -- "follow the reward money".

When I watch Discovey's "American Mob" on the History Channel I yell at the screen about errors. Most involve running operatives in the field to keep Westies from earning over-time and holiday pays. I like walnut cluster fudge but it becomes an addiction of choice for the agency with more stars than in the heavens. They fight like cats and dogs over who gets the extra money in their budgets. Journos, opposition party members and civilians often get caught in the crossfire.
