OF COURSE Obamacare Exchanges Will Be Manipulated

George Washington's picture

The Big Boys Manipulate EVERY Market … While Would Obamacare Be Any Different?

The following exchanges are being widely manipulated by big banks, hedge funds and other players:

  • Currency
  • Interest rates
  • Energy
  • Gold and silver
  • Derivatives
  • Carbon (i.e. “cap and trade”)
  • Virtually all other commodities
  • Basically all exchanges

Why do you think Obamacare will be different?

The leverage which huge pots of cash, insider information and high-frequency trading give to the big banks and other big players makes exchanges an easy target.

The big boys play dirty.

And the Obama administration is allegedly exempting the Obamacare exchanges from anti-fraud standards

As the New York Times notes:

Billions could flow from Washington to Wall Street, indeed.

Postscript:  True progressives such as Eric Zeusse, Yves Smith and Corrente have long warned that Obamacare is nothing but a giant giveaway to big health insurance companies.

But it is also a new opportunity for Wall Street to extract huge sums by manipulating a new market.

0bamascare seems to eliminate many competing health providers from the "system"-so, what will the end be? Just a few mega-providers in bed with the gov't-you know, sort of like the MEGA BANKS: JPM, GS etc.

I wonder how Obamacare and others handle this off the topic bombshell.

A significant number of people who have undergone treatment for cancer over the past several decades may not have ever actually had the disease, admits a new report commissioned by the U.S. National Cancer Institute (NCI). Published online in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), this government study identifies both overdiagnosis and misdiagnosis of cancer as two major causes of this growing epidemic, which together have led to the needless treatment of millions of otherwise healthy individuals with chemotherapy, radiation or surgery.

The report drops a few major bombshells on the way that many cancers are diagnosed. Breast cancer, for instance, is sometimes not breast cancer at all but rather a benign condition such as ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). However, untold millions of women with DCIS have been misdiagnosed as having breast cancer, and subsequently treated for a condition that likely never would have caused them any health problems. And similarly in men, high-grade prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia (HGPIN), a type of premalignant precursor to cancer, is commonly mistreated as if it was actual cancer.

"The practice of oncology in the United States is in need of a host of reforms and initiatives to mitigate the problem of overdiagnosis and overtreatment of cancer, according to a working group sanctioned by the National Cancer Institute," explains Medscape.com about the study. "Perhaps most dramatically, the group says that a number of premalignant conditions, including ductal carcinoma in situ and high-grade prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia, should no longer be called 'cancer.'"

SAT 800's picture

Definetly correct. Overdiagnosis and false positives are rampant. It's a very difficult field; and frequently the semi-trained lab techs. just aren't trying hard enough.

... In reality, virtually the entire cancer industry is one massive fraud, in the sense that it's not really allowing authentic and inexpensive cancer cures that address the cause of the problem to come to market. They are virtually all violently opposed and condemned. It's a massive for-profit industry, and unless a treatment revolves around a costly drug that can be patented, it will never see the light of day. The whole idea that the cancer industry is "searching for a cure" is a sham... because cures already exist. But they're being massively suppressed.

... "The Politics of Cancer" explained how exposure to environmental and occupational carcinogens causes cancer. Yet they're avoidable because safe substitutes exist. Nonetheless, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and American Cancer Society (ACS) - groups Epstein calls "the cancer establishment" - ignore preventable causes, searching for non-existant magic bullet cures. In fact, they allocate minimal budget amounts to prevention while deceiving people to believe they stress it.

Cancer - The Forbidden Cures

Breakthrough in cancer prevention: Vitamin D

The paradox in medicine is the result of two facts:

Fact #1:

Cancer is a trillion dollar disease to modern medicine because there is a great deal of money in treating cancer as a chronic disease while they pretend there are no cures for cancer and they pretend to be looking for a cure for cancer. Therefore, those people who have no interest in curing cancer, because curing cancer would cut into their profits, have many, many, many billions of dollars to control the White House (e.g. the FDA, FTC, FCC, etc. appointments), Congress, buy the loyalty of the mass media, etc. etc. For example, any presidential candidate who is not acceptable to the corporate cartels is completely blacklisted by the media (except to call the person an 'idiot') to insure they are not elected. The media itself is a giant cartel which has its own police force - the FCC.

Fact #2:

There is very little money in curing cancer with alternative cancer treatments, and there is even less money in telling people how to cure their cancer at home. Thus, there are very few people who know how to cure cancer and most of them make very little money curing cancer, thus this group has a pathetically small amount of money compared to how much money Big Medicine and Big Pharma have!

Mostly things get worse, faster!

Did you know Obamacare has built in taxpayer bailouts built into the law if the exchanges fail?

If Obamacare fails, taxpayers get to bail out the insurers

The answer: In the worst case, insurers get bailed out by taxpayers.

Last week on The Incidental Economist blog, Adrianna McIntyre explained a provision buried in the health care law called the “risk corridor.” It's one of Obamacare's three R's (along with reinsurance and risk adjustment) that are intended to protect insurers, especially in Obamacare's first three years.

Risk adjustment and reinsurance both require profitable health plans to share risk with unprofitable ones. As exchange insurers take on thousands of new patients of unknown risk, the provisions prevent any one plan from collapsing right out of the gate based on dumb luck.

All the money for reinsurance and risk adjustment comes from insurers, but the risk corridor is different. At the corridor's center is the point at which a health insurance plan breaks even after paying for patients' care and allowable administrative costs.

If an exchange plan's performance varies in either direction by more than 3 percent, it either collects a subsidy from federal taxpayers via the Department of Health and Human Services to recoup part (50 to 80 percent) of further losses, or it has to kick back a similar share of the excess profit.

Ideally, the money kicked back by profitable health plans can cover the subsidies for plans that lose. But unlike with the other two R's, there is no legal requirement that the numbers balance or limit on what can be paid.

So imagine that we do enter a “death spiral” situation in which a large number of exchange health plans lose big and very few turn sizable profits. This could result from a delay of the individual mandate (reducing incentive to sign up); or from the current open enrollment period being extended (during which the uninsured can literally sign up for insurance on the way to the hospital); or from lack of interest among the healthy uninsured; or from faulty websites deterring all but the most desperate from enrolling.

In the event of a widespread failure, whatever its cause, taxpayers potentially face a multi-billion dollar bailout of health insurers for losses outside the corridor.

Insurers are therefore safe. Politicians who back Obamacare may not be. If insurers' costs do rise to the level that they require a taxpayer bailout, they will also be announcing massive hikes to their insurance premiums for calendar 2015. That combination may not go over so well in a midterm election year.

George Washington's picture

Holy Cr@p!  I didn't know that. THanks!

Radical Marijuana's picture

Good point, Dewey Cheatum Howe!

That was something I did not know about until now. Obviously, it makes sense, given the ways that the Too Big To Fail or Jail Banks are able to operate. Insurance was always one of the pillars of the established systems, and often far more powerful, by being persistent, than was apparent at first glance. However, it becomes even more mind boggling to imagine another multi-trillion dollar bail out of big insurance companies, being added on top of all of the rest of the runaway debt insanity situation that the USA is drowing in!

This whole idea should have been easy.  Like in most of the other developed countries with decades of universal health care.

I do not comprehend all this.  UNLESS it comes down to the fact that it is really not universal health care.  Soon as you allow the private companies and for-profit hospitals  to keep on keeping on.  You have a mess.  Seems like that is what I am hearing here.

I pay, I think, about $80/month and my common law guy the same.  (This is actually paid by husband's employer).  So that would be less than $200/month for anything care anywhere in Canada.  Drug costs are a different discussion.

So what on earth have you folks done???

Look at Britain? France? anywhere else in the economic West.  This is insane what you speak of here.

Good Luck.

WhackoWarner's picture

And like I have said before.  EVEN if I was living in Canada and had not paid my premiums. If I showed up at Emergency bleeding/suffering/ill  I would not be turned away.

Maybe someone would try to bill me later.  But not turned away.

We carry supplemental medical/dental.  Again through the employer.  Pays for basic dental care plus other normal procedures with limits.  Covers drug costs after a modest deductible.  Covers out-of-country costs and transport home to Canada to get away from this run-away millionaire system in the USA.

WhackoWarner's picture

I am saying these things to illustrate.

My premium and my husband's premium would cover any procedure.  We are not backwards up here in Canada.  We have complaints about the cost and efficiency of our health care system.

But if I ended up in ICU for 2 months it would not cost me personally.  If I had a stroke and needed rehab it would be covered.  If if if.   It would not bankrupt my family.

If reimbursement rates to physicians are anything like Medicaid (healthcare for the poor, not Medicare which is for the elderly) then most doctors will not particpate. Only a handful of American born/ American trained physicians take caid now. They pay about half of Medicare rates and they throw hurdle after hurdle in the way of good care to make up for budgets that are always in shortfall.

I suspect that they will eventually will steal from the Medicare budget and then that will suck too. I'll retire rather than put up with the stress of trying to run a chronically underfunded office.

At some point you will all see 'physician extenders', I do not see how the typical physician survives. 13 years out of high school you stop borrowing and get your first real check....big whoop. Eventually if the system decides it really needs physicians it will have to promise them free education. Those already in the system are easily screwed, the government is good at that.

No doubt about that, The Heart!

Kerry Lutz: ObamaCare Will Speed Up the Ultimate Collapse of America BECAUSE IT IS DESIGNED TO DO THAT. The government of the USA is dominated by people who make a profit from deliberately destroying it, as part of their overall global agenda. Since I find that, these days, I have nothing left but a macabre sense of humour, I find it perversely amusing that Obamacare is so extremely bad that its primary achievement may become driving so many people to disobey it, to the degree that the IRS will end up perhaps overloaded to the point of collapse too?

For context. see my two comments in the recent Zero Hedge article about PROOF that the market has again become perverted to the point where bad news makes the stock market rise, while good news makes it fall:

Bernanke Has Officially Created The Bizarro Market

In order to understand what is going on, one MUST go through the looking glass of our Bizarro Mirror World! Everything is dominated by the biggest bullies' bullshit social stories. That applies to everything from the most profound philosophy of science, to the most superficial political issues. To understand Obamacare adequately, one MUST be able to understand that both the events on 9/11/2001, and the financial crises in 2008, were inside jobs. Obamacare is DELIBERATELY designed to be a disaster, especially for the middle class.

Quantum Nucleonics's picture

It is dishonest to even descrobe the "exchanges" as a "market".  A free market involves a willing buyer and a willing seller.  Buyers are compelled to purchase a product whose design is dictated to the seller by the government regulatory authority.  Obamacare is socialism, with a veneer of frosting to make it seem not so bitter.

Radical Marijuana's picture

No, Quantum Nucleonics.

I agree that there is NOT a "market."

However, it is mistaken to call it "socialism."

For an explanation that that label is FALSE:

ObamaCare: What You're Not Being Told

There are NO good labels for what actually exists.

About four hours about the history of plutocracy.

The Power Principle

Part 1: Empire

Part 2: Propaganda

Part 3: Apocalypse

Threats from communists, drugs, and terrorists,
were all mostly false flag attacks, to justify the
elites using the powers of "We the People"
to attack Us, to build up their plutocracy.

Of course, since the great majority of people
have been so badly brainwashed, for so long,
to believe in bullshit, and to become sheeple,
most of "the People" are their own enemies.

Always, it is NOT good enough to reveal
what real elites were actually doing to Us,
unless We evolve better ways to do that!

Good solutions must be better human ecology.

Real solutions can NOT be no human ecology!

In Part 1, the segment that impressed me the most was
starts about 1:24, where historian Michael Parenti says
that "fascism" was another tool used by the plutocracy.

Much of politics is the rational use of irrational symbols.

Fascism is an instrument whereby the plutocracy can control.

The organized lies operate the organized robberies,
which in turn keep those organized lies in business!

Refusals to face those fundamental facts
results in false fundamental dichotomies!

Which then delivers the irrational symbols,
that were rationally used to control others!

Part 2: Propaganda, through around the 20 minute mark,
there is another classic moment of Bizarro Mirror World!

What was stated about the Soviet Union's global ambitions
is what was much more literately true about the banksters!

As will happen again and again, after 9/11
with the war on terrorists, everything that
the governments said about the "terrorists"
applied much more perfectly to themselves!

The ruling elites that are privatizing the planet
are the real international criminal conspiracies!

At 23:43 mark is classic quote from Cicero:

Endless money forms the sinews of war.

More "triumphs" of the elites in using LIES,
backed by violence, to privatize the planet,
became more & more planetary destruction.

Runaway money/murder systems were too far away
from actual realities to possibly provide saner systems.

Money/murder systems which were necessary
were self-driven to become runaway insanities.

Real problems inherent to the nature of life,
developed runaway militarism, as madness!

NO saner discussions of living within limits
are possible in societies that are so totally
dominated by huge lies about themselves!

In Part 2, at the 40:28 mark, was
EXCELLENT review of the history
of fundamental contradictions.

From racism, to war on drugs, to then war on terrorism,
the need for human ecology and political economy WAS
expressed through one huge lie, after yet another lie!

Nowhere in triumphant lies dominating societies
is there left any room for rational debate of the
need for human ecology & political economy,
fitting inside of real limits of a natural world.

Instead, triumphant bullies' bullshit becomes the
only language that is used, and therefore, all of
the controlled opposition spouts similar bullshit!

The real history was that the same groups of plutocrats funded most of the fascism, socialism and communism that has been promoted to become significant during the history of the 20th Century. To blame any of those isms, or to assert that some of the existing systems are those, is mistaken, since one is being tricked by the plutocrats, which are organized crime, whose greatest achievement was to get their own counterfeiting of the public money supply legalized.

Indeed, the problem returns us to greater paradoxes:
like paradoxes of how and why we ended up with the
actual human ecology and political economy, which
exists now, as the "triumphs" of runaway deceits
that were driving us all to become too insane!

Of course, Part 2: Propaganda, reviews the increasing
ownership and/or control of the mass media, especially
after World War II, when many of those people, who
had been directly involved in propaganda for WWII,
moved directly into domestic mass media industry.

There was a continuous development of both
more concentrated ownership of mass media,
AND more covert infiltration of them as well.

Nothing new ... just more overwhelming proof
that North Americans became the victims of
the best brainwashing that money could buy.

All North Americans were sold war and everything else
by those who had perfected doing that professionally!

The degree to which the ownership, or control,
of the mass media by the plutocracy, and the
"secret police" they covertly controlled too,
dominated North Americans neared total!

The degree of "success" by staging events
on 9/11/2001, to then start greater wars,
demonstrated problems driving insanity.

Too bad, so sad... that was too successful,
since it relentlessly achieves driving people
to be more & more insane, to believe lies!

Astronomically amplified triumphant bullshit,
promoted by bullies, DOES control society.

Nothing new, but for its AMPLIFICATIONS!

More and better science and technologies,
mostly and overwhelmingly being applied
to brainwash people to believe in LIES!

If you believe that Obamacare is "socialist" then you are being tricked to believe in misrepresentations. All of the various labels, such as socialism or communism, etc., are mistaken over-simplications. What is really happening is that the government is organized crime, controlled by the best organized criminals. Thus, Obamacare is merely the latest, apparently over-the-top, manifestation of legalized lies, backed up by legalized violence. Of course, Obamacare came from professional liars and immaculate hypocrites. However, the deeper reasons for that are due to the history of warfare, where success in war depended upon deceits, and where spies were the most important soldiers. The source of our problems are the profound paradox that some human ecology must necessarily exist, and it does. However, the actual murder systems we have were developed by those who were the best at deceits becoming the victors, who then approved their bullshit version of history. Therefore, Obamacare is simply more and more deceits and frauds, spinning around faster and faster, to the point where it may fly apart.

That is NOT socialism. That is the triumph of runaway organized crime, using every possible lie and trick in the book, including pretending that it is socialist. However, the necessarily deeper truths are to NOT then promote the impossible ideals that there should be no death controls, and should be no organized crime, since that only enables those who are the best at deceitfully doing that to continue to actually do it. Politics is medicine writ large. In this case, politics evolving through the paradoxes of being successful in the conflicts of warfare is what made the powers of sovereign states, which got taken over by the best organized gangs of criminals, who promote themselves benefiting from more crimes by promoting the best professional liars and hypocrites to work for them. Obamacare fits inside that context. Obamacare does NOT fit inside the ideals of either socialism or capitalism. It is simply FALSE to say that Obamacare is socialism! It is obviously just as FALSE to say that Obamacare is in any way the operation of a free market, other than the "free market" in covert organized crime controlling government.

Radical Marijuana's picture

Sir, I have found you an argument; but I am not obliged to find you an understanding.

--- Samuel Johnson, June, 1784,

I repeat this link.

ObamaCare: What You're Not Being Told

Obamacare is more fascist plutocracy, than socialism, because it is about the insurance companies being the MIDDLEMEN, that make everything more expensive, while their services are forced upon people by the government. Obamacare is corporatist, NOT socialist!

That is like the government turning over the power of the monetary system to private banks, except this time it is turning over the power over health care to insurance companies. The thing they both have in common is that the IRS is the enforcement arm of the privatization of powers of governments, which were transferred to private corporations.

"Socialism is an economic system characterised by social ownership of the means of production and co-operative management of the economy."

"Corporatism is the socio-political organization of a society by major interest groups, or corporate groups, such as agricultural, business, ethnic, labour, military, patronage, or scientific affiliations, on the basis of common interests."

Corporatism, or fascist plutocracy, is a system whereby corporations control the government, for the benefit of the corporations. Its most important form is the existence of the Federal Reserve Board. However, the emergence of Obamacare is a huge step to advance corporatism, by having the government force everyone to go through the MIDDLEMEN, the private insurance companies.

There is NO social ownership of the medical care system, nor the medical means of production, and no other cooperation than to have the IRS be able to force everyone to participate in the private health care insurance systems. There IS that major interest group, which has successfully lobbied to have Obamacare become law.

However, as I explained in my reply above, as well as I repeat was explained in that video I linked above, people who believe Obamacare is "socialism" are political idiots that were tricked to believe in lies. Those who still believe that, after looking more closely, must be particularly adamant political idiots.

Mercury's picture

You're right. If Obamacare were socialism the people who designed it and shoved it down our throats would have to participate in it too.

By the way, every civilization in the history of the world has been a plutocracy. That's just how human society organizes itself.

Radical Marijuana's picture

I agree, Mercury, that some form of plutocracy is basic. That goes deeper than human civilization. Most animals have some way to enforce claims "That is mine!" We find pecking orders throughout most animal behavior. I regard ALL political parties as factions of the PRIVATE PROPERTY PARTY.  The history of civilization was different groups of people asserting their claims "That is mine!" They backed those claims up with violence, as best they were able to, in conflict with others doing similar things. The history of warfare selected for the kinds of social organizations which were best able to survive and advance themselves in that situation. I assert that all human realities were always organized lies, operating organized robberies, because that is fundamental to the nature of human animals, which operated as robbers in their environment. Clearly, some groups had to cooperate within themselves, in order to compete better with other groups. The overall trend has been building up bigger and bigger social organizations which would assert that resources belonged to them, by enforcing their assertions. Those kinds of organizations of the fundamental basis of private property tended to select for hierarchies, where those with the most claims, and the most ability to back up their claims, were the plutocrats. Since human beings lived in the world more and more by privatizing that, with more and more claims over everything, backed up with coercion, and those successfully surviving social organizations tended to social pyramid systems, there were always those who were able to be at the top of the social pyramid systems of lies, backed by violence, who therefore, by social definitions and recognitions, owned the most wealth. Since the entire system was based on claims on resources backed by coercion, everyone within those systems were subject to that. The overall thrust of history has been the privatization of the planet, with the plutocrats most directing and benefiting from that. Of course, one of the ways that they were successful was to dominate the language used to talk about what was really happening, and to trick most people to not understand the real situation.

In the case at hand, the paradoxes of "health care" in the USA, where that is ACTUALLY a "profit from disease system" in which those profits get privatized, while the losses are socialized. That is the paradox of calling Obamacare "socialism."  Obamacare is the same old systems of privatizing the profits, while socializing the losses. That is NOT what is meant by those who promote "socialism" as a good idea. That is what ACTUALLY happens when the plutocrats dominate the funding of the political processes, in order to lobby for laws that will use public powers to force everyone else to contribute to the plutocrats becoming more wealthy. The background problem is that what is being socialized and accumulating is sickness and suffering. The bigger picture, longer term consequences of Obamacare is more sickness and suffering. There is some degree of "socialism" by insanely subsidizing the profit from disease systems.
