Katadyn filters are the best. I've had mine since 1994 and it still is kicking. Well worth the money for the serious backpacker.
Anybody ever buy the G&G Lithuanian 5.56 M885 at S&G Ammo? I'm considering the 1,000 round case for my Sig M400.
I have used mine in all conditions for many years, too. When it starts to pump slowly, it is easy to disassemble and clean the ceramic filter with the green scrubby that comes with it, then it works like new.
When I recommended it in my post 18 months ago, the Katadyn Pocket Filter was only $300, now $350. Fuck you, Bernanke! Seriously.
Oooh, oooh! If #12 counts as one item, that's what I want!
Parachuting/skydiving was fun but I'm too old for that crap any more. I'll have to sit and fight from my favorite chair.
It's said that geezers make the best snipers, too.
I'm a pretty good shot, and the idea of just sitting on my ass for a while waiting makes a lot more sense than trying to keep up with the youngsters.
I'm good for providing time and stopping bullets. My time is past, so might as well prep for helping the kids make their break.
If I can see it, I can hit it - I don't miss. I'm a geezer too. My son was a PMI at Parris Island - he has the 'gift' too.
A number of years ago I was driving through central Michigan on business at about this time of year and I happened upon a Ted Nugent radio show whilst scanning through the radio stations.
He did a spot for a local gun store with a tag line I cannot forget..
"Remember, ammo makes great stocking stuffers." :-D
I was gonna say - I bought mine for $200.00 not all that long ago. =o
PS A good companion to the Katadyn are any of the Berkey countertop filters.
We use our Berkey everyday with the Katadyn held in reserve in our BOB.
I'm adding some Katadyn to my stash.
Diarrhea is a hell of a door to backdoor salesman.

Isn't that some of the stuff with the partial steel penetrator? If so, it excels at punching through light body armor, but is unreliable when it comes to fragmentation, which is the primary wounding mechanism for 5.56.
I think it's the SS109 that has the 62 Grain steel core penetrator. And you are correct...its unsatisfactory performance against unarmored targets is well documented in Mark Bowden's book Blackhawk Down.
My personal xmas wish

Consumerism, indefatigable remora of the naked ape.
Awesome list.
