I can only say: I'm sorry, America. As a former Federal Reserve official, I was responsible for executing the centerpiece program of the Fed's first plunge into the bond-buying experiment known as quantitative easing. The central bank continues to spin QE as a tool for helping Main Street. But I've come to recognize the program for what it really is: the greatest backdoor Wall Street bailout of all time.

My missus makes any excuse to throw a party and i always lock myself away in the attic room.
Unfortunately she refuses to leave me alone informing me that so and so keeps asking my whereabouts.
After several attempts to induce me to join the proceedings i place the cork back in the bottle of cognac and stumble downstairs.
Flitting from guest to guest i enquire as to their opinion of the cunt Obama. Anyone who talks of him favourably i grab their glass and shoo the freeloaders out of the door.
Over the months and years the guest list has dwindled but the remaining diehards all offer satisfactory responses or opinions on the bastard when the cork is sealed back into the bottle and i care to venture downstairs.
LMFAO!!! I put the kabosh on having "friends" over a long time ago. My Mrs understands why and that is because they are her friends and not mine and they always want to drag their husbands along as though just because the women get along well, the husbands will automatically get along as well. So then you have to sit there with some guy you don't know who is now in your household. He does not want to be there either and I don't want him there because he is drinking my beer and eating my food. The women start chattering like pissed off chipmunks so then I have to give the guy another beer even though he hasn't finished the first one because he wears a skirt.
"Do you want to watch TV?" I ask and he perks up "Yeah sure!". "What would you like to watch? I ask and he replies "I don't care." So then I start flipping through the channels and all we can find are commercials for Humana/Wal-mart, cars we don't need, some sort of new "sleep system", a house flipping "investment professional" and numerous hair care solutions for women and other sanitary needs they might need because of greater absorbency capabilities.
Men are men. Tell her "NO MORE" and see what happens. What happened when I did this is that she said that didn't really want them around anyway either. Go figure. This is what taverns and restaurants are for. A neutral place to meet is a better option. That is a much better way to go about social events.
I do not want people seeing what I have and I do not want certain things to go missing. I will not go to her friend's invites either. What good will come of that? When one of the other guests rips something off then I might get blamed for it? I really don't like guests here and I don't want them around. I do allow the kids to have some friends over to play because they are kids and they need to play but this room where I sit now is off limits.
And let us not forget that humor is the secret passage into the hearts and minds of others...

You want to mine btc & use them only for barter, go for it, but you'll have to contend with this fait-btc insanity & fraud taking place in Corzine-heaven.
You can't stop it. Counter-party risk with btc is mostly far, far above that of fiat cash.
Sure if you're using cell phones to transfer btc on the spot with goods in hand, you'll be OK but these situations are very limited.
Most people are into btc for fiat profits to beat inflation risk & short-term currency risk.
If they (some do) acknowledge hyperinflation & currency failure, at least in the short-term a giant bucket of fiat-electrons will buy more than a hand full of fiat-electrons so if btc gets you those, so be it.
In the long run it's gold & silver.
I'll take my chances with the much less volatile calls & puts on 2x or higher leveraged ETF's. The counter-party risk is there but lower than btc's.
I saw one report. Hong Kong is still an empty wasteland when it comes to Bitcoin commerce. I don't doubt there is Mainlander speculation going on.
crazy that it appears that an entire exchange was just an a mechanism to steal bitcoins. Wouldnt be suprized if it was Govt. involved as the site was not authorized yet.

Last Thanksgiving I made an attempt to engage some of my relatives in an discussion about the economy. Everyone wanted to talk about it....but ONLY in 'sound-bites'. No one wanted to discuss anything in detail, if the discussion went beyond the 3 minute mark!! Could be my relatives are just dim....but I suspect the problem is widespread. Intellectual laziness. The average person doesn't want to know....they will spend endless hours discussing in great detail the last football game....or TV "Reality Show"....but not more than 180 seconds can be spent onthe economy.
My wife accused me of "boring the guests"....despite the fact that I gave up after a short 10 minutes. Learned my lesson....marital harmony wins out over trying to educate the masses.
LOL. Haven't we all been there? You have given me an idea for a holidays themed blog post because I found some pictures of what the furniture in the den looked like after the "altercation" was over. I really do not know if I should do that blog post but we shall see. This is why we hate the holidays because it brings out the worst in people. I mean, look at "Black Friday". It should be renamed "Red Friday" because of all the people who get trampled and killed trying to get a deal on something.
I can also appreciate your apprehension and see that you are dreading this year's Festivus activities in advance. I understand you have a Mrs. O who probably wants to participate and that is where your problem is. If nothing else you could try this tactic, start drinking early and spend a lot of time outside. Pretend you are doing something work related or actually start doing something as though you are just trying to help out. Then you can say, "Phew, I'm all tired out and need to get to bed early because we need to leave early." You will be drunk, everyone will think you are a hard worker and you might not get into any arguments best case. This tactic may or may not work for you I understand but somehow you need to practice avoidance if you don't want to piss off Mrs. O because at least you can say to her, "Hey, I was only trying to be helpful and now you are going to treat me like this?".
There is another way which is far less harmonious and that is too confront stupidity head on with facts and ruin the whole event so that you are never welcome again. That does not seem to go over well with females though. I like the other guy's idea of drinking in the attic by himself as well. That tactic would work as well in some cases. You will have to learn to be creative. Our thoughts will be with you Sir.:-)
indeed. If the only options I have for wife or friends are idiots who want to ignore what's wrong or cheer for moar I'll do without. Would drive me insane.
It's cheaper to drink for the sake of enjoying drinking than to drink to cope with a World of Stupid that's managed to get in the front door & permanently take up residence & invite more of the same as regular guests.
It's unfair to call people lazy who simply don't want to rehash over and over things they can do nothing about. People are just resigned. Even among the "enlightened" there is so much vicious disagreement over what to do -- libertarian left vs. communitarian left vs. libertarian right vs. religious right -- all spend more time hating and insulting each other than speaking truth to actual power. So why bother? Our bought and paid for politicians won't do anything just because a Thanksgiving dinner was wasted on depressing discussions. I find myself reading more about baseball trade rumors and less about politics nowdays.
This is really not a political/ideological issue is it. It is a crime against the public and should be exposed as such. They have disguised it ingeniously with all the dual mandate bullshit. No one ever said they weren't devious. But the load they are carrying is clearly too heavy and will eventually collapse. There will be no magical illusion of prosperity to save them as it has in the past.

i have the same problem with obama believers, although i am or was a dem myself i have never voted for him. behind the veneer they are really afraid of the republicans. the republicans represent the dark ages to them. if you want to discuss the relevance of the obama presidency go directly to the idea of the progressive movement (people have trouble recognizing that the modern age is now in the past) tell them its time to quit living the future and live in the hear and now. we cant build an economy that ensures the empire, if in doing it that economy does not work for the people who live in that economy.
I don't know if it has always been like this or if the mind kontrol of Americans via Hollywood's subversive indoctrination has created this state of mental abandon.
I hear you Orwell, but I think WB7 has the right idea. I have talked to people about what is happening and what it all means and got the polite bush off more than once. It wasn't until I printed some things out and presented a package that some actually perked up and took an interest. unfortunately, there are many, many millions who will be blindsided by the coming storm but so long as you, me and our fellow ZHers keep talking maybe we can reduce that number at least a little.

Many of us are well past the "Why are you telling me this?" phase to the rolling of eyes and "that's nice dear" part of the Kubler-Ross denial phase with the normalcy biased people in our lives. It never hurts to remind people close to you that you are motivated by love.
I have a suggestion. Print out Huszar's Op Ed and highlight the first two paragraphs. Then print out my picture Fiat Fornicatio. Staple the two together and bring a bunch of copies. Just hand them out with a personal hand written note on top:

My only observation is it is better to turn one than to fail at turning 100. One by one, little by little.
And I would focus on the younger set in particular. They have the most at stake and are getting shafted the most.

Finally, I think looking at this as a "liberal" or left versus right targeting exercise is a blinder. There are plenty of "conservative" pseudo libertarians who need the same medicine. Whoever can be educated, educate.

Hear hear! Although most of my friends' (we're all in our mid twenties) eyes glaze over when I start discussing the mechanics of money and banking, they are receptive to it on some level, even if it is the unconscious feeling of cog dis they get watching or reading the daily news and knowing that something is truly wrong (eg Nobel Peace Prize Prez agitating WWIII). It will have to be a generational shift in consciousness away from the mythology of the Corporate States of Amerika, if we even make it that long.

You're right. Most can't and many just don't want to hear it. I tell my dear wife of forever and a day and she says, 'I can't handle it.' Like Jack in A Few Good Men: 'You can't handle the truth!" Therein lies the problem. The weasles keep eatin' chicken in the neighbors chicken house and it's their problem, not mine....too late once your chickens are gone too.
I'm in the exact opposite boat. My hub controls 100% of the assets, and the business, and says, "I can't handle it," or my personal favorite, "the market always comes back."
Life choices sometimes bite pretty hard, but reality is going to bite us all whether or not we "handle it" today.
The other commenter was 100% on the money, she needs to know, and needs to "handle it," because if something happens to you, SHE will be the one that pays.
That is my only consolation, if he drops before I leave, at least I will know what to do, whom to avoid and what is going on.
Most of us on here have spouses that are very similar. I love my wife dearly, but she does not want to know these things. She tells me that she would rather be happy - and she is so good and pure of heart that I really don't want her to be burdened with this knowledge. But on the other hand, I do want her to be aware of it an understand the game, even if she does not dwell on it every minute of the day such as I do.
As long as they help in preparation and follow your lead, let them enjoy their lives while there is still time. As for the rest of the willfully ignorant, try once - if they don't catch on and still want to deny, leave them.
Many women have never worried with the bills or checkbooks either. Upon losing their husbands they are prime targets for predators. She can ignore & be happy as long as you're taking care of her. What happens should she lose you?
